Chapter 95: Her True Purpose

Andrew Graystone was the first to shatter the uncomfortable silence after hearing the startling news that Alex’s new wife has the same name as Aurora Moon.

"Oh dear Aurora, we are glad to finally meet you in person," Andrew smiled widely and offered a gentle handshake to the nervous young lady. His smile grew wider when he felt how cold her hand was.

Andrew softly patted her hand and enthusiastically said, "Come here, dear, let’s sit and talk about you..."

This was the moment he had always wished to see before he passed away: his grandson introducing the woman he had selected for himself.

His grandson had been married six times before, with each wife selected for him. Unsurprisingly, all his marriages failed, leaving no grandchildren to continue the Graystone legacy.

Andrew tries hard to set up a new wife for his stubborn grandson. But his stubborn grandson gives him the answer he wants: "Grandpa, I’ve already married the woman I wanted. Please stop trying to set me up with someone else!"

Although the girl’s name shocked him, it brought back complicated memories for the family. Nevertheless, he was optimistic that Alex’s new wife would finally give him the grandchild he longed for.

’Very well, my grandson. You did an amazing job of finding a wife. This young girl is beautiful. Now, let me see if she’s after your money or not...’ Andrew muses to himself as he guides Aurora to sit beside him.

...

Aurora follows Andrew Graystone and sits beside him while nervously glancing at Alex.

Even though Alex appears calm, Aurora notices a flicker of worry in his eyes.

She becomes more tense because the man she thought would comfort her in this situation actually reflects her concern and anxiety.

"Sir..." Before Aurora could finish her sentence, Andrew Graystone interrupted her, compelling her to call him ’Grandpa,’ just like Alex.

Aurora felt her hands grow colder at his request. The man before her was her Old Master, who decided every critical matter in Graystone’s household.

She felt immense gratitude towards him for what he had done in her previous life. This man had granted her freedom on her birthday. Still, sadly, she never had the chance to experience that freedom—an accident took her life.

Yet, here she is, back at Graystone. How ironic! God never allowed her to truly leave Graystone, even when she desperately sought to flee her fate.

"Grandpa, I’m delighted to see you..." she replies softly, striving to remain composed despite her nervousness.

She felt a pair of eyes gazing at her with such intensity that it seemed they could see right into her thoughts. Without looking in their direction, she could guess who that person was: her mother-in-law, Sophia Morrison.

’God, please grant me the patience to handle her later...’ Aurora prayed while smiling as she listened to Andrew Graystone start to ask her a few questions.

Fortunately, she didn’t have to respond because Alex, who sat beside her, volunteered to answer all of those questions, and she was surprisingly shocked to discover that he knew a lot about her.

’Did he investigate me? Why does he know so much about me?’ Aurora looked at him suspiciously and gave a loving smile, ensuring that Sophia and Matthew remained oblivious to their contractual marriage.

When the nervousness enveloped Aurora slowly faded, Sophia’s voice suddenly broke through, prompting her to turn and look at her.

"Y-Yes... Mrs. Graystone," Aurora responded courteously, trying to conceal her irritation with her former madam.

Deep in her heart, she still harbored resentment for this woman. If this overbearing woman hadn’t insisted on her returning home and dragging Alex to this house, perhaps she would still be alive in her own body, enjoying her freedom.

"Oh dear, just call me Sophia..." Her soft voice surprised Aurora.

She found it unusual for this arrogant woman to speak to her softly like this, causing her to gasp slightly.

She paused to remind herself to stay composed, recalling that she was Spencer, not Aurora Moon.

"Absolutely, I’ll keep that in mind, Sophia," Aurora responded warmly.

"I heard you’re still in college. Can I ask where you’re studying?" Sophia asked, thrilled to finally converse with Aurora after waiting her turn, as Andrew had dominated the discussion since her son and daughter-in-law arrived.

One of Aurora’s hands, still held in Alex’s warm grip, suddenly clenched tightly upon hearing Sophia’s question.

Aurora wanted to keep her college a secret, fearing the woman would inform David. And if David learned about her marriage to Alex, it would add to her troubles.

However, she couldn’t conceal this forever, could she? Sooner or later, David would discover it too.

"Arcadia University..." she replied, wishing Sophia were unaware that her nephew studied there too.

"Really?" Sophia was surprised. Getting into Arcadia University wasn’t easy; a sharp mind was essential, and coming from a wealthy family was not a guarantee. "What major?" she asked.

Aurora maintains her Mona Lisa smile before answering, "Computer science..." freёnovelkiss.com

"Wow, that’s a prestigious major right now. Even Alex chose that major. You must be smart, Aurora..." Sophia was even more impressed.

Gradually, Sophia began to understand why her son liked Aurora. It turned out that this girl not only had a beautiful face, but she also had a sharp mind.

Sophia felt she didn’t need to be suspicious of Aurora anymore. She began to believe that her son’s marriage to Aurora was real, not a set-up marriage, as she had thought.

"Thank you, Sophia." Aurora was relieved that Sophia had excluded David from their conversation. At least now, she felt safe.

However, just as her relief was about to fade completely, it returned when Sophia blurted out, "Oh my goodness, I almost forgot. Aurora, you might know my nephew. He’s also in that major, in his final year; his name is David Morrison..."

Aurora expressed frustration internally before responding, "I’m in the same class as him."

Sophia’s smile grew wider. Excitedly, she added, "It’s surprising; Alex is married to David’s classmate. And guess what? He’ll be here tonight with his parents."

Aurora’s mood sank. She can no longer keep her secret from David.
