Rebirth as The Billionaire's Seventh Wife-Chapter 169: Start The Investigation
Chapter 169: Start The Investigation
After Aurora finished her dinner, Alex finally let her open her laptop.
But before Alex headed off to his study, he gently reminded her, "You can only open your laptop for two hours, Aurora. You need to sleep again. Your fever is still there."
Aurora could see the worry in his eyes now. "Hmm, I understand..." A spring-like smile graced her face as she tried to reassure him.
"Call me if you need anything." He mentioned this before stepping out of the room.
However, once the bedroom door closed, her smile disappeared.
While sitting on the sofa and holding her laptop, Aurora hacks Andrew Graystone’s cell phone to find all the communications related to the fuel truck driver who hit her.
However, after a few minutes, she discovered no evidence there. His cell phone was clear, and even all the deleted text messages left no trace behind.
’Did he use a different cell phone?’ Aurora mused. This thought-provoking inquiry could shed light on the situation. ’This old man has a brain. It’s no surprise he managed to build his empire so effortlessly.’
Aurora continues to search for something that can guide her, yet the outcome remains unchanged.
"Damn it! It makes sense why he seemed so relaxed. He was impeccably clean. There was no obvious evidence linking him to the crime."
Still, Aurora can’t stop. She continues her search, letting her program locate anything suspicious on his cell phone and all the devices connected to Andrew Graystone.
The program will search for what she wanted, which was specific instructions related to Andrew Graystone, the fuel truck company, and the driver who fled the crime scene—even the police couldn’t locate him.
But her program had just located him, and surprisingly, that truck driver had died from his illness two weeks ago. This has led her to be even more convinced that someone killed him.
’This is getting intriguing! So he intended to eliminate all the witnesses?’ She exhaled deeply, her anger increasing towards the person responsible—she believed Andrew Graystone—for her accident.
Aurora placed her laptop on the coffee table and allowed the program to run independently.
While waiting, she decided to call Danny.
She needed to let him know their Monday plan would be canceled.
"Hi, Rory..." Danny’s cheerful voice chimed in from the other end, bringing a bigger smile to her face. "What’s up? What’s making you call me today?"
Gradually, her stress began to melt away as she listened to Danny’s cheerful voice on the other end.
"Danny, I just wanted to let you know... it seems we can’t meet on Monday."
"Huh!? Why are you suddenly canceling?" Danny cheerfully faded away, leaving a sense of curiosity and a hint of concern in his voice.
"I’m feeling unwell, Dan. I have a fever, and my doctor advised me to rest for a few days." Aurora continues to describe her flu symptoms.
"Oh my goodness, what’s happening that you’re suddenly feeling unwell with the flu?"
"Not yet, but there are symptoms," Aurora corrected him, feeling amused by his panicked tone. This man is usually calm and composed, yet now he resembles Renata.
"Still the same, Rory! Ugh, it’s alright, we can’t meet, I’ll come to your house tomorrow with Rena. Could you please let me know where you live now, Rory?"
Aurora found herself at a loss for words. She had hoped he would understand, but she may have chosen the wrong time to share her condition with him.
And she knows for sure that once Renata finds out about it, she will definitely make her way to visit.
"Big bro, no need. I won’t go anywhere; we can meet later when I feel better." She gently declined. How could she possibly accept guests here?
"No, no, Rory! I’ll come over to your house with Rena. Just send me your address when you can, or I’ll look it up myself..."
Aurora really can’t refuse him, and she knows he will know where she lives if he makes an effort. She could only smile bitterly.
Now, she needs to ask Alex for permission first. Hopefully, he will allow them to come.
"Fine! But, come on Monday morning." Aurora feels a bit overwhelmed. She finds it hard to say no. It’s actually better if they come on Monday when Alex isn’t around.
"Why Monday?" Danny asked.
"Alex will be home all day... It might feel slightly awkward if he’s around while you guys chat with me as Rory, not Aurora Spencer!"
Danny’s laugh could be heard from the other end before he said, "So my poor brother-in-law still has no idea about you yet?"
"Yeah! He can’t hear whenever I confess my identity to him." Aurora faintly smiles, reflecting on how hard she tries to make Alex hear her. Still, she has never succeeded.
"Hahaha, I feel in a good mood now, knowing that poor man doesn’t know the biggest truth!" Danny teased playfully.
Aurora can’t help but laugh, too. "Why are you so happy about it?" she asked.
"Well, I never managed to beat him at anything before. But this time, I truly got the better of him! How could he still be unaware of the truth about his wife? Such a pitiful man."
Aurora doesn’t say anything more, but can’t help but chuckle with delight.
Danny was absolutely right! Alex is quite an unfortunate soul. Surprisingly, he hasn’t learned about her yet, considering they’ve shared the same roof for over two months.
They both continue to chat about all sorts of things, but then, a thought pops into Aurora’s mind about her plan to take Andrew Graystone to court.
"Danny, could I ask you something about the law?" she asked, searching for the right words to start with.
For a moment, there was silence until Danny eventually responded.
"Why are you suddenly bringing up the law? Are you in some kind of trouble?"
"No. Of course not. But, this is related to my client." This is the best way for her to talk about it to Danny; she thinks of her client, not herself.
