Rebirth as The Billionaire's Seventh Wife-Chapter 137: Who is Her Husband?
Chapter 137: Who is Her Husband?
While in the lobby.
Max was too shocked to hear Aurora’s words. Even after the call ended, he remained in place, staring at his cell phone.
Her words echoed in his mind: "Because my husband picked me up!"
Max wondered, ’Did I hear wrong?’ while suppressing the urge to type a short message asking her.
Countless thoughts swirled in his mind, simultaneously filling him with curiosity and anger.
’Aurora, why do you confuse me all day? Did you know you’ve made it impossible for me to concentrate on my work? Damn it! You torment my mind!’ Max expressed his frustration inwardly while looking at the scenery outside.
Max was skeptical about what he had heard. How could the girl marry after pursuing him just a few weeks ago, leaving him uncomfortable and disturbed?
However, he also didn’t want to ask her again. What if she had told the truth about her husband coming to pick her up?
After standing for some time by the glass wall, watching cars arrive one after another to pick up workers returning home from work, he took his cell phone from his trouser pocket and dialed a number.
A surprised voice came through on the other end, "Wow! Wow! It’s unusual to get your call, Maxwell... What’s going on, man?"
"David, where are you? We need to talk!" Max brushed aside David’s friendly greeting. He needed to see him to inquire about Aurora.
"Man, I’m in trouble! My boss asked me to go home. He told me to return tomorrow to continue my work. My idol didn’t even let me try to solve the code he gave me. This is frustrating!"
Max let out a deep sigh, annoyed by David’s yapping. He didn’t want to hear his problem; he just wanted to ask him about Aurora.
"Where are you? Can you meet me in the lobby? There’s something urgent I need—" Max’s voice suddenly cut off as a loud voice rang out from behind.
"Hey... MAX!"
Max turned to see the source of the voice and found David somberly waving as he approached him.
"What’s going on, Max? Why do you look so shocked, like you’ve just seen God? Eager to talk to me about it? Is something troubling you?" David inquired as he stood in front of him.
"Are you aware that Aurora is married already?" Max asked immediately. He couldn’t afford to wait. He needed the truth to calm his restless mind.
David was a bit surprised by Max’s question. He recalled that Aurora had warned him never to discuss her marriage with anyone. But how did Max find out about it? Did he also know who her husband was?
Max was stunned as he looked at David. Even if David didn’t answer, he immediately knew the answer through his surprised gaze. freёweɓnovel.com
"Seriously, she is? With whom?" Max asked again, eager for an answer, but David just stared blankly at him.
David’s face showed confusion. Instead of answering Max, he asked, "Max, who told you that?"
David couldn’t admit it now. He needed to know where Max had learned about Aurora being married.
Max let out a quiet sigh before he continued. "From Aurora. When I called her to meet now, she declined, saying she can’t because her husband is coming to pick her up."
"Ooo, he’s back already..." David’s voice trailed off when he realized he was admitting to Max’s question.
’Damn it, David Morrison! Can you try to hold yourself a bit?’ He could only scold himself internally while smiling faintly at Max.
"Yeah, she is a married woman now. Someone’s wife." David couldn’t avoid it. Besides, Aurora had already told him anyway.
David stared at Max with a frown on his forehead, waiting for him to say something, but he seemed in a trance, looking shocked.
Suddenly, a thought struck him. "Hold on, why do you look so shocked, Max? Please tell me you’re not starting to like her and thinking about giving her a chance?" David asked, stunned by his own words.
Max hurriedly clarified, his intense gaze fixed on David. "What the hell are you trying to say, David? Do I look interested in her? Absolutely NOT! She is not my type, alright."
David shook his head as a soft chuckle escaped his lips, observing how defensive Max was now.
He gave Max’s shoulder a gentle pat, hoping to lift his spirits. "Well, regret always comes later, man. After you know she’s married, you realize that you like her. That’s normal. Don’t be ashamed to admit it."
Max was rendered speechless upon hearing David’s words.
"Damn it! I already said I’m not interested in Aurora Spencer!" He wanted to argue, but caught himself.
Sighing deeply, Max turned his gaze to the street outside, trying to calm his shock. He was indeed not interested in Aurora Spencer. He was just confused that the girl had suddenly married, and not only that, she also had a connection to a woman he admired, his crush, Aurora Moon.
That’s why he wanted to speak to her about it: to find out how she knows about Aurora Moon and even knows his older brother.
Max didn’t remember his brother ever mentioning Aurora Spencer to him—he assumed that if Aurora knew his brother, she must have also mentioned that she was studying in the same faculty as he was, right?
’Damn Aurora Spencer! Why do you have to make me so curious right now, huh!?’ He sighed deeply in silence.
After a brief moment, Max looked at David, intending to say something. However, the sight of David’s sarcastic smile made him rethink his decision to explain anything.
He chuckled inwardly, amused by the idea of speaking to this silly David. He immediately excused himself and left for home.
Max walked toward the elevator to the parking lot, but David called his name again, following him.
With a gentle hand on Max’s shoulder, he said, "Max, let’s head to the bar! It might brighten our dull lives a little. We’ve lost Aurora to a man we can’t compete with..."
Max initially looked annoyed at David’s friendly gesture, gradually transforming into curiosity about the person’s identity, leading Aurora to cease her pursuit of him.
"Do you know who her husband is?" Max asked.
