Chapter 110: The Target Is?

Silently staring at her computer monitor, Aurora was too stunned to check the identity of the person she needed to investigate.

"Aurora Spencer?"

She stared in shock at the sight of her name.

"Who on earth would pay so much to know about my life?"

Surprisingly, this little girl’s name commands such high market prices.

A thought flashed through her: "Wait, is it Alex?"

She felt a chill as she spoke her own words. Only Alex would spend his money on anything connected to her, right?

Her fingers moved swiftly over the keyboard. She suspected the individual was likely using his alias or employing other people to contact Joe.

Now, she must uncover the actual identity of the person seeking her information.

After a few minutes, her hands finally stopped typing.

Her expression turned stiff as she looked at the person’s identity on the screen.

Knowing that person’s identity, Aurora felt no interest in her work.

She shook her head slightly, stood up, and walked around the corner to make a coffee.

However, her cell phone rang before she could do that, surprising her.

In a hurry, Aurora returned to the table to have a look.

She was surprised when she saw Alex’s name on the screen.

’Why is he calling me now?’ she pondered, staring at the digital clock; it was just twelve. freeweɓnovel.cøm

"Hello, Alex..." she greeted him with a warm smile as if he were standing before her.

"I’m on my way home with the doctor. He’ll examine your head."

His unexpected words caught her off guard. She had expected him to come back only with a doctor during the night.

’Why is he rushing home so suddenly now?’

Before Aurora had a chance to reply, Alex interrupted, "And, Aurora, we will have lunch together. I have asked Martin to prepare our lunch..."

A silence lingered since they both remained silent.

But shortly after, Alex’s voice echoed from the other line, "Hello? Aurora, are you still there?"

His worried tone snapped her out of her shock.

"Yea, yea, I’m here."

"Okay, great! There is one more thing you need to know about our lunch. We’re having lunch with my friends. I hope that’s alright with you..."

Instantly, Aurora felt as though her knee had turned to tofu. She didn’t expect Alex to bring his friends to Green Hills, let them meet her, or even have lunch with her.

’Is he Alexander Graystone? The most private person I’ve ever met before?’ Aurora felt confused.

She recalled that Alex never invited his friends to Green Hills, and neither of his ex-wives visited it.

In the past, when she asked him, "Why?" he explained that it was his most private place, accessible only to very few people he trusted the most.

"Yeah, sure. Uhm, should I dress formally for this occasion?" She worried that Alex’s friends were also his business friends.

"Oh, that. No. It’s not necessary. Just put on something you feel comfortable in. They’re my closest friends, Patrick and Jimmy. I’ll introduce you to them..."

Aurora struggled to focus on what Alex said, as she was entirely absorbed in her thoughts. She knew them well; after all, she saw Patrick and Jimmy almost every day!

They were Alex’s best friends and the key people who ran his business empire, the Stardust Group.

Patrick Wallace was the IT Director of the company and would become her boss once she started her internship at Stardust Tech.

Jimmy Palmer was the Chief Operating Officer of the Stardust Group, the person who ran the group’s daily operations for Alex.

Aurora was no longer surprised; they were all her seniors at the university. Outside office hours, she viewed them as her friends.

’Why did he bring his friends to meet me?’ Aurora wondered, feeling confused. She had made it clear that she wanted to keep their relationship private, but here he was, inviting them for dinner at his house.

...

Once Alex ended the call, Aurora stood in a daze, gazing at her phone screen.

Now, she worries about appearing before Patrick and Jimmy as Alex’s wife.

She hoped to act naturally and not reveal that this marriage wasn’t genuine or that they would quickly notice her.

But again, something troubled her; did Alex tell them about their contract marriage?

Concerned she might accidentally disclose it, she texted him to ask, just to be safe.

"Alex, are they aware of our deal?"

After sending the message, she waited. However, after a few minutes with no response from him, she typed out another message.

"The deal I’m referring to was about our marriage contract!"

Alex’s reply came in a flash.

"Nope! Our deal is just between us. No one knows about it!"

"Understood!"

After sending the text, Aurora placed her phone back on the table and walked toward the walk-in closet.

She wanted to change out of her one-piece gown, as she didn’t like wearing feminine dresses.

It didn’t take her long to select an outfit for meeting Alex’s friends, and she was grateful that she had already swapped out all of Aurora Spencer’s outfits she liked.

She chose a simple black culotte paired with a matching silk blouse.

Staring at her reflection in the mirror, she felt satisfied. This is what she liked: a simple outfit that allowed her to move freely.

When she looked at her head, it caused her stress. She hoped the doctor would permit her to stop wearing a bandage.

She covered the wound with the other side of her hair to conceal it and tied it into a ponytail.

Aurora decided to stop making coffee. Out of the blue, her drowsiness vanished, replaced by excitement and nervousness about meeting Alex’s best friend, who was also her best friend from her previous life.

She sat at her computer desk, gazing at the screen where she had last seen the employer who paid her ten times more just to learn everything about her.

Her lips curled into a charming yet sinister, cold smile.

"So, you want to fight me for my flaws? Bring it on!"

Though she was furious with her employer, she felt a sense of relief that it wasn’t Alex.
