Chapter 274: Sharing the Good News with Grandma

Sophie feels a bit suffocated when she talks about Serena, so she decides to stop. However, something suddenly crosses her mind.

The first time she hears Harvey’s name, Sophie feels suspicious about the connection between Sawyer and Harvey. But upon looking for similarities in their features, she finds none and dismisses her concerns.

"Abby, you mentioned earlier that Harvey is Sawyer’s older brother?" Sophie asked, curious.

Abigail nodded, confirming Sophie’s question before saying, "Half-brother. And Harvey really hated Sawyer. The reason Sawyer didn’t feel close to his family, particularly her father and siblings, was that Harvey mistreated him," she explained bitterly, imagining Sawyer’s youth in the Jones family.

Sophie feels sympathy for Sawyer, understanding that he faced unfairness in his family, just like Abigail. "My goodness, I feel for Sawyer. I hope his brother no longer bullies him, as they’re all grown up now..."

"Well, he still..." Abigail smiles bitterly. "That’s why I was shocked when I heard Serena wanted to marry Harvey. She knows exactly how terrible Harvey treated Sawyer in the past..."

"Oh, Abby. Why do I get a headache just thinking about them? Let’s not talk about them, okay?"

Sophie took a deep breath. She was too exhausted to understand young people’s relationships. Not wanting to discuss them any further, she decided to shift the conversation to a topic she was curious about.

Abigail could only nod in agreement with her Grandma. She also felt drained by the idea of trying to understand Serena and Harvey’s motives for getting married.

"Abby, when are you going to give me a great-grandchild?" Sophie asked, gently stroking Abigail’s flat stomach. She had already been waiting for this good news, but as the year was about to change, she hadn’t heard anything about it.

Abigail smiled to hear her Grandma’s words. When she arrived, she wanted to tell her Grandma and grandpa immediately, but meeting Serena and Harvey made her forget her plan. novelbuddy.cσ๓

Abigail felt confused. She had agreed with Sawyer that they would tell Grandma and Grandpa together. But she has to wait for some time; Sawyer is still downstairs, chatting in Grandpa’s office.

But she decided to tell her after seeing Grandma’s eyes sparkling impatiently to hear her answer.

’I should tell her now...!’ She looked at Grandma for a moment.

"Why? Why are you staring at me instead of talking? Abby, you..." Sophie couldn’t complete her sentence; she was concerned that something had happened to her granddaughter.

Abigail held her grandmother’s hand. When she lowered her gaze to see her grandmother’s wrinkled hand, her heart tightened as she thought about how old her Grandma was now.

"Grandma, please, you must stay healthy and strong because..." Abigail lifted her head to see her grandmother’s wide eyes, worry clearly reflected in them. She no longer wanted to hide it or tease Grandma. "Your great-grandchild will be born next year..."

Sophie gasped, already worried she wouldn’t receive good news, feeling a mix of shock and happiness. "Oh my God. Wait, Abby... are you pregnant? How many weeks?"

Questions spilled from Sophie’s lips as she gripped Abigail’s hand tightly, overwhelmed with joy to hear it.

Abigail told her grandmother about her pregnancy and how she knew about it. She also mentioned visiting the hospital for a check-up to confirm it.

Seeing her grandmother so happy filled her with waves of emotion and joy that she could hardly contain. Her family will grow.

She also talked about the morning sickness she had been experiencing.

As her grandmother shared valuable insights on pregnancy, Abigail suddenly thought of her mother and felt a deep longing for her. She felt a strong urge to fly to Orange Town to visit her. Memories of her last visit to her mother’s grave, during her honeymoon with Sawyer, came flooding back.

"Abby, who else knows about your pregnancy?" Sophie asked, eager to find out if she was the first in the family to hear the news. She needed to tell Martha about it.

"Hannah and Martha, they’ve already—"

"What? Why didn’t you tell me sooner?" Sophie’s jealousy caused Abigail to laugh. Witnessing her grandmother’s gloomy expression was amusing.

"Sorry, Granny..." Abigail tried to coax her. "At that time, I had morning sickness, and Sawyer panicked. He called her grandmother and her mother. He even asked me to cancel our trip here today; that’s why I didn’t tell you. I made an excuse to Sawyer because I want to tell you directly today." She explained; however, her grandmother was still sulking.

Abigail wrapped her arms around her grandmother’s arm and rested her head on her shoulder, just like she used to. "Grandma, please smile and stop being angry. Don’t let your great-grandchild see that you’re upset with me."

Sophie panicked; she didn’t want her unborn grandchild to be upset with her. She laughed while patting Abigail’s hand. "Hahaha, who is angry and upset with you? I’m not... I’m happy; of course, I’m happy. Abby, you have to—"

The two continued chatting about pregnancy, losing track of time. Outside, the sky was beginning to darken. A man stood frozen at the doorway, listening to their conversation.

"Abby, are you pregnant?" James Philips’s voice startled Sophie and Abigail as they turned to the door.

While Abigail shared her happiness with her grandparents upstairs, Serena and her parents, in the guest bedroom, discussed Abigail’s status as James Philips’s biological granddaughter.

Tension filled the room as David Philips kicked the coffee table before him. His face turned red as if all the blood were rushing to his skin when he heard that his adoptive father had a granddaughter.

The memory of the story he heard from his mother filled his mind once more; his adoptive father had a fiancée but was separated. Before his father met Sophie, he had never married. That’s why he was adopted as a son, even though he doesn’t have pure Phillips blood.

"Damn it! That bitch Abigail is such a huge threat to us! She stole Rena’s lover, and now she might be planning to grab the inheritance that Father intends to give entirely to me! To me!" David clenches his hands into tight fists.

Serena and Sara looked concernedly at David, noticing how upset and stressed he was.

"Dad, please calm down. We need to think clearly so we can get rid of that damn woman!" Serena said, trying to soothe her father’s anger.

"Husband, you need to take care of your health. It’s important to appear strong and healthy. We don’t want to look defeated when we meet Sawyer and his woman," Sara reminded him.
