Chapter 275: New Day

Abigail rubbed her sore forehead while leaning against the car window, her mind still filled with what had happened at dinner.

She didn’t expect Serena’s parents to be as talented at acting as their daughter. They pretended to be genuinely accepting of her grandmother and her. Silly as it was, her grandfather believed them.

’Gosh! I shouldn’t have held back from telling Grandpa how mean Serena was to me...’ Abigail sighed softly, trying to hide her annoyance from Sawyer, not wanting him to worry.

However, it seemed that Abigail couldn’t hide her anxiety. Ever since they left Grandpa Philips’ residence, Sawyer had been watching her and understood his wife’s unease. Yet, he intentionally didn’t ask her to let her relax more.

Earlier, while still at James Philips’ house, Sawyer noticed how uncomfortable and awkward his wife felt meeting Serena’s parents. After dinner, he decided to take her home.

Sawyer took Abigail’s hand. When she finally turned to look at him, he smiled warmly and asked, "Are you okay?"

"If I said I was fine, would you believe me?" A small smile accompanied her words.

"Of course not." Sawyer suppressed a smile as he noticed her shaking her head.

Abigail chuckled at his response before saying, "Serena’s parents’ attitude really gets on my nerves. I know they seem fake. My concern is Grandma. What if they are—" she shook her head, deciding against voicing her thoughts, fearing that it would make her worries come true.

Sawyer didn’t rush to respond; instead, he lifted his hand and ran it down her back.

"I’ve got my people inside your grandpa’s house." Sawyer paused, smiling, when he noticed her eyes widen. "I hope that eases your worries."

Abigail was speechless; she hadn’t expected Sawyer to go that far to ensure her grandma’s safety in the Philips family house.

"Did Grandpa know about this?" she asked.

"Of course not—"

Abigail fell silent and sighed deeply, though she didn’t oppose his actions. She felt slightly better knowing people were watching over her grandma.

They decided not to discuss that matter further, and Sawyer let her rest again. It didn’t take long for them to finally reach their house.

Sawyer and Abigail spent the night enjoying the evening while watching a movie. Soon, the day was over, and the new year arrived.

The first day of the new year was filled with buzzing rumors about celebrity dating involving Serena Philips. Her photo, taken while walking in the park with a mysterious man, was featured in nearly every media outlet, and social media discussions overshadowed any negative news about her.

Another article quickly emerged as fans attempted to uncover the man’s identity. This article included a clear photo and revealed that the man was none other than Harvey Jones.

After finishing her early breakfast, Abigail read the article while waiting for Sawyer to finish his exercises in the gym at their house. She was no longer surprised to learn about Serena and Harvey.

However, something crossed her mind. ’Did Sawyer know about this?’ she wondered.

Closing all the articles she read, Abigail gazed at Sawyer, who had just finished his lower-body exercises. At the same time, he was also looking in her direction.

"My little wife, do you need anything?" Sawyer asked as he approached Abigail in the sitting area. "Are you hungry again? I can ask someone to prepare food for you." He was impressed that his wife had eaten so much lately.

This morning, she woke up while it was still dark outside and mentioned that she was hungry. They needed to finish their breakfast before six, and he found it amusing to watch her eat much more than usual.

"Hungry? Of course not," Abigail replied with a smile as she stood up and walked over to him. "I was just curious if you heard about Harvey getting engaged to Serena?"

Sawyer’s brow furrowed immediately. "Abby, how did you find out about that?" he asked, recalling there had been no discussion about it the night before.

Abigail didn’t respond to him right away. As she heard his reaction, she realized she had her answer. "So you know," she said softly, lowering her gaze to his sturdy bare chest.

Before continuing, she offered him a clean white towel. Then, she explained that her grandma had told her about Serena and Harvey’s engagement. She also mentioned that the news about them was now trending on various news portals and social media.

Sawyer calmly took her hand and led her to their bedroom. "I already know about it. Harvey called me and told me not to be shocked if the news appeared online. He also mentioned that they plan to get married soon," he explained calmly.

"I see," Abigail responded shortly. She wanted to ignore Serena and Harvey, but she couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off. "How’s your feeling?"

Sawyer raised his eyebrows, confused, "What do you mean?"

"I mean, Serena is going to marry your brother..." Abigail felt awkward saying this but couldn’t help the urge to express it. "Are you alright with that?"

"Abby, I don’t care about them," Sawyer said, stopping in front of the bathroom door. He continued his words as he fixed his eyes on her, "What I care about is you. If you’re uncomfortable meeting them, we don’t have to be in the same place as they are."

"I understand, but please be careful, Sawyer. I’m feeling uneasy about Harvey’s plan to marry Serena. I felt there was something sinister about it."

Sawyer lifted his hand and rubbed her warm cheeks. "Abby, no worries. Ethan is already doing his work to investigate if there are any vile reasons behind that marriage."

"That’s good, then. Okay, go take a shower..." Abigail went back to bed after seeing Sawyer close the bathroom door.

As she lay back on the bed, she checked her cell phone. However, a few seconds later, she felt tense after reading a new incoming text in her inbox. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm

"Boss, Happy New Year! I apologize for texting you at this hour. However, I need your permission to take leave tomorrow because I must return to my parents’ house. My dad is in the hospital."

Abigail quickly typed her response: "Milan, Happy New Year to you too. No need to worry about work. Go visit your dad, and let me know if you need anything."
