Betrayed by Fiance, Embraced by Hidden Tycoon-Chapter 273: Telling The Truth
Chapter 273: Telling The Truth
Abigail sits with her grandma in the seating area of her grandmother’s bedroom, gazing at the view beyond the house through the large glass wall. She sees a distant mountain blanketed in pristine snow.
She knows the mountain well since Grandpa Philip’s house is close to Sawyer’s grandparents’ house. The scenery here resembles what she views from Sawyer’s bedroom in his grandpa’s house.
Abigail has never felt relaxed since her grandmother moved into this house. She constantly worries about her grandmother, even though her grandfather and Aunt Rosa always reassure her.
She turned to see her grandmother, who was sitting beside her. Abigail expressed her concern again: "Grandma, are you really happy living here?"
Sophie frowned as she looked at Abigail. She could see the worry and fear flashing in Abigail’s eyes, the same gaze Sophie often saw when her granddaughter was still connected to her father. However, since marrying Sawyer, this was the first time she had seen that fearful look again.
"Why don’t you believe me, Abby? I do like this place," Sophie said earnestly. "Your grandpa takes care of me just like he did in the past. The staff in this house are all kind to me and also show their respect to me. And did you forget that Rosa stayed here with her family as well? This is the happiest time I have ever felt. And I believe no one can make me unhappy here..."
Abigail sighed quietly upon hearing her grandmother’s words. She couldn’t quite explain it, but she always felt a sense of danger surrounding her grandma in this house.
She worried that Serena and her family would complicate her grandmother’s life if they discovered she had a daughter and granddaughter with Grandpa. She had heard that wealthy people often argue over inheritances, and she believed her sudden presence in this family would only alarm them.
When she shared her concern with Sawyer, his calm and brief comment calmed her: "Abby. If they want Philip’s money, let them. You don’t have to worry about it. Your husband has a thousand times more wealth than Philips!"
Since then, she has stopped discussing her worries about Serena’s family with Sawyer.
Sophie smiled as she gently ran her hand along her granddaughter’s back.
"Abby, I know what you’re worried about..." Sophie smiled, watching her granddaughter’s eyes widen. She ruffled her hair before continuing, "You’re concerned that your grandpa’s son and his family won’t accept me, right? That they’ll make my life difficult?"
Abigail was shocked. She didn’t expect her grandma to guess it correctly. "Y-You’re also concerned about it, right, Grandma?" Their eyes met, but she was stunned to see how calm her grandma’s gaze was now.
"Hmm, dear. I’m concerned, but you don’t need to worry about them. Even though I haven’t met his son yet, I can tell through Serena that they come from a good family, which is different from what I initially thought. When I first met Serena, she was kind and sweet."
Sophie’s eyes sparkled as she reminisced about her first encounter with Serena while Abigail sat in stunned silence.
’Geez, Grandma! Do you think Serena is kind? She’s manipulative! She might be worse than Vanessa!’ Abigail silently vented her frustration.
"Oh, Abby, Serena introduced me to her fiancé as well. You met him earlier, didn’t you?"
This time, Abigail couldn’t contain her surprise. She was shocked to learn that Serena was already engaged. "Serena is getting married?"
Sophie nodded quickly and explained about Harvey Jones, the man Serena had brought home earlier, and their plans to marry early next year.
When she heard about Serena’s engagement, Abigail was at a loss for words. She was utterly surprised and remembered that the woman had been pursuing Sawyer just a few months earlier.
Countless questions raced through her mind: When had they become a couple? Why had she suddenly moved on to Harvey? Did Sawyer know about it?
Lost in her thoughts about Serena, Abigail could no longer hear her grandma’s words. She glanced at her grandma, but her mind was elsewhere. She began to wonder if Serena and Harvey had a secret plan regarding their marriage.
"Abby, are you okay?"
Startled by Grandma’s hand on hers, Abigail cleared her throat softly and nodded. "I’m fine, Grandma," she said as she took a glass of water and drank.
After placing the empty glass on the table, she began to tell her grandma about Serena and how much that woman disliked her. She also brought up Harvey Jones, Sawyer’s older brother.
Sophie was shocked and didn’t know what to say; she was stunned to hear that Serena had a relationship with Sawyer and how much the girl hated her granddaughter.
After a while, Sophie finally asked, "Abby, why didn’t you tell me earlier? How could Serena blame you for taking Sawyer away from her?"
Abigail let out a deep sigh in response to her grandmother’s question. She also didn’t understand why Serena disliked her and blamed her for stealing Sawyer.
Abigail clearly remembered Sawyer telling her that his relationship with Serena ended when she left the country and never returned, even after he had given her a chance for a year.
"Grandma, I thought Grandpa had explained Serena’s past to you," Abigail said softly. "That’s why I didn’t mention anything about it. And, ever since you moved into this house, I’ve been worried. If Serena finds out I’m your granddaughter, I’m afraid she’ll hate you too."
"I understand, dear..." Sophie nodded, her expression tense as she gazed at Abigail with concern. "I will speak to your grandpa about how Serena treats you. Your grandpa didn’t know about this, did he?"
"Yes, he probably doesn’t know. But Grandma, please, no need to tell Grandpa how Serena treated me. It’s fine with me; at least that woman didn’t do anything to harm you," Abigail said sincerely. She didn’t want to create a dispute between Serena and Grandpa Philips.
Sophie nodded quietly, yet she was determined to inform James about it. She would not allow her granddaughter to experience unjust treatment in this family, just as she had in the Snow family.
