Chapter 250: Real or Fake?
"Hello, Ms. Abigail. I’m so glad to see you again," Rowan Sterling said as he stood up from his chair and nodded at her.
"Lady Boss, it’s an honor to see you again," Ronan politely greeted her.
Abigail smiled in response to their greetings. The three of them had a brief conversation until Sawyer interrupted. She frowned at him, curious about what he would say.
"Abby, I have a meeting with them. I hope you don’t mind waiting for me in that room," Sawyer whispered apologetically, pointing to a door in one corner.
"Hmmm, go ahead and finish your work. I’ll wait for you," she smiled.
"Thank you, Abby..." Sawyer took her hand and led her to the door.
Abigail was surprised that the room resembled a man cave—complete with a billiard table, a golf simulator, and a basketball hoop. A fully stocked bar stood against the wall, next to a high-end coffee maker, the kind she usually saw in cafés or bars. Upon stepping inside, she felt she had left the office entirely.
"Is this your office?" Abigail asked, impressed by the vast room, which was situated directly above Andy Bennet’s office.
She walked beside him, her gaze landing on a sofa in the corner, where she saw Ethan and Vincent sitting, engrossed in a game of FIFA on a large screen mounted on the wall.
"No, this room is definitely not my office," Sawyer chuckled, noticing her adorable, surprised expression. He added, "This is just the activity room. I rarely come here. Usually, Ethan and Ronan hang out in this space..."
Sawyer paused and glanced at Abigail. "Okay, go play with them. After meeting with Rowan and Ronan, I’ll catch up with you."
Abigail nodded and looked over at Vincent and Ethan. When Sawyer called out to them, they instantly stopped their game.
"Ethan, Vincent, you both accompany my wife. I will return soon after I meet with Rowan and Ronan," Sawyer instructed, turning to Abigail and lovingly patting her shoulder.
"Yes, sir," Ethan and Vincent said, motioning for Abigail to join them.
After Sawyer closed the door, Abigail walked over to Ethan and Vincent sitting in the seating area.
"Hey guys, I hope I’m not interrupting your gaming time, " she said.
"Haha, not at all, Lady Boss. We’re always glad when you and Boss are here," Ethan replied, waving his hands dismissively. "Do you want to join us for a game?" he asked eagerly, gesturing for Abigail to take a seat.
"No, thank you, Ethan. I don’t play games. Don’t mind me here; you all can continue," she replied, glancing around, her eyes focused on the coffee maker. For a few moments, something stirred within her heart.
Abigail suddenly remembered Lana, her former Boss at Crimson Leaf Cafe. She still recalls the last time Lana contacted her when she texted about transferring her salary and bonus. Despite feeling grateful for that, she ignored Lana’s text and didn’t reply to it.
After that day, Abigail never received any more texts from Lana.
"Ma’am, do you want a cup of coffee? I can make it for you."
Vincent’s voice suddenly pulled Abigail from her thoughts about Lana. She looked in Vincent’s direction and saw him stand up.
Abigail stopped him immediately. "Thanks, Vincent. But I can make coffee myself. Probably better than you guys. How about you guys? What coffee do you want to drink? I can make it for you," she said.
"Lady Boss, please make one for me, just like yours..." Ethan raised his hand quickly. He knew Abigail worked at Crimson Leaf Cafe as a barista, but he still hadn’t tried the coffee she made.
"Alright, I will make one for you," Abigail said with a smile, amused by Ethan’s enthusiasm. Then she turned her gaze to Vincent. "What about you?"
"Yes, ma’am, if you don’t mind," Vincent replied politely.
"I usually drink a latte. Do you guys want the same?" she asked.
"Yes, ma’am. A hot latte sounds delicious," Vincent responded.
Abigail walked over to the coffee maker and prepared the coffee.
Not long after, she finished and joined them again in the seating area.
Abigail didn’t watch them play; instead, she picked up her cell phone and checked her social media. The news about Serena Philips, which had been trending on various platforms that morning, had vanished from a few top websites in the country and social media.
There were just a handful of articles about her, and they weren’t even listed among the top fifty trending topics on the Internet.
"How strange... How could this happen? Is someone involved?" Abigail murmured softly, loud enough for Ethan and Vincent to hear.
They quickly stopped playing and turned to her with concern as they noticed her usually gentle and friendly expression shifting to one of confusion and worry.
After a moment, Vincent and Ethan exchanged glances as if deciding who should ask her. Finally, Ethan said, "Lady Boss, is everything alright?"
Abigail was stunned to hear Ethan’s question. Looking away from her cell phone, she said to him, "Nothing happened, Ethan..."
"But your face says otherwise, Boss. What’s wrong? Maybe I can help?" Ethan pressed on, clearly curious and wanting to know what had caused her mood to drop.
"Ma’am, if there’s a problem, please let us know so we can take care of it right away," Vincent said. His worry was apparent in his tone.
Abigail did not react to them immediately. She thought for a while about whether to ask them or not.
After a few more seconds, she smiled and said, "I’m just confused reading the news on the Internet. This morning, the news about Serena Philips was trending, but just now, it has disappeared. Weird, right? I guess someone deleted all those articles." She looked at them in return.
"Ah, about that..." A satisfied smile appeared on Ethan’s lips before he continued his sentence. "Well, I’m the one who deleted those articles."
"You? Why? Was the news about Serena Philips real or fake? Is she facing cancel culture?" Abigail asked, confused.
