The Villianess story: A 100 ways to kill your husband-Chapter 295: His wish
Chapter 295: His wish
"What did you wish for?" He asked her, his gaze drawn to her. A soft smile lingers on her lips. "I wish to see many more years to come and happiness." It seemed like a simple wish but she knew it meant a lot to her
"How about you?" Abrielle asked, her gaze drawn to him. Her blue eyes met his hazel eyes. He smiled at her, the music resumed, and loud deafening fireworks also flew up to light the sky to accompany the lantern.
Alfonso spoke and her smile slowly fell. She was too stunned.
The sky was lit up with the prettiest colours from several lanterns and fireworks that spread around the sky like stars. The music continued and the cold midnight air was filled with excitement.
Abrielle’s smile fell, it was something beyond her imagination. Despite the loud music and jubilation, a cold silence sang between them.
"I wish my heart wouldn’t ache when I see you with him," Alfonso said, she was stunned and left with no words. What did he mean by that? A weird smile curled up Abrielle’s face at the untimely confession she never expected.
"It’s already midnight and past my bedtime. I think the fireworks were too loud. I barely heard you." Abrielle said with awkwardness. Her eyes trailed from him as she turned to leave.
Alfonso’s heart skipped, he didn’t believe he said something he was not meant to say. A secret that has been eating him up slowly down to his bones. He held her hand, stopping her from leaving.
"Are you just going to walk away?" He asked; deep down, he didn’t know what to expect. Abrielle glanced at his hand on her arm, her throat going dry. Never in her wildest dreams did she expect a love confession from him. A character who wasn’t influenced by the plot, one that was designed to die today because of an affair.
Dread crept up her heart. Was the plot going to kill Alfonso tonight, despite her doing so, to fulfil the storyline? Suddenly her skin grew colder, her voice firm. "Let go, Alfonso. I need to go back home..." She pulsed then added. "To my husband."
It was a reminder she was a married woman. One wedded to his brother. "Why Abrielle? He doesn’t love you, neither do you love him. Why don’t ..."
"Why don’t what Alfonso?" Abrielle cut him off. Her voice was sharp like daggers as she whipped her arm from his grasp.
" I know it’s crazy and I tried hard. I told myself multiple times it was a game and nothing more, but every time I see you by his side, I can’t stop the bitter feeling." This had to be the biggest joke she had heard but now she thought about it. There was always the question of why his character changed.
She thought he did it to get to Cedric but that wasn’t the case. It doesn’t change a thing. "What do you expect from me, Alfonso? This isn’t a game. I don’t love you, and I will never see you in that light. For crying out loud, I am your sister-in-law, and that will never change." She stated the fact that it came straight from his heart.
Alfonso’s eyes dulled, her expression unreadable but it gave her the chills"What if he isn’t there? What if I can get rid of Cedric?" He asked her; she went speechless, lost for words to say.
Her gaze was unfocused, then a weak smile crept up her face that didn’t reach her eyes. "Those are big words, Alfonso. We both know you don’t have what it takes to kill Cedric. Forget this idiocy and never mention this rubbish before me again. I kept my part of the bargain. I hope you keep yours." She scoffed at him, then turned around, not sparing him a glance more. Her body froze as she stared at the balcony entrance, her face going pale.
"I guess I will have to prove you wrong," Alfonso replied before he turned, he later wished he never said those words.
A sarcastic voice followed after, strong disdain in his baritone. "I would love to see you try."
********
A few minutes earlier, when Abrielle and Alfonso got back to the square amidst the cheers of the parade, their presence caught the attention of a pair of ruby eyes that were intrigued and curious.
Sapphire’s gaze lingered on them, a conflict rising in her mind. In the end, she followed her gossiping stomach. What gossip was better than catching an adulterous pair? Sapphire thought with a smirk.
"Isn’t that princess Abrielle and prince Alfonso?" Sapphire’s noble lady asked her, recognizing the pair that made their way into the grand city hall.
"It seems so," Sapphire chimed, not saying a word more as she followed behind the pair. She stayed at a considerate distance, and luckily, she was good with concealment; Alfonso, whose guard was down, didn’t sense her.
She followed until she got to the side entrance which Alfonso and Abrielle had taken. There wasn’t anything special about their appearance but she was curious why Abrielle was with Alfonso.
At the entrance, a knight materialized, one she recognized as Cedric’s head knight. She didn’t know his name, but his blade that was against her neck said all about how he didn’t want her to go further.
"Turn back," Elias said; he had been trailing Abrielle all night as instructed by Cedric. He, of all people, knew Abrielle’s relationship with Alfonso was innocent and the princess was being toyed with by Alfonso. He didn’t want to reveal much to Cedric as he wasn’t sure of the details and he didn’t want things to be worse than it already was
One thing is for sure: he didn’t want others involved. Elias was not certain if his master held affection for the lady, but Cedric was considerate and protective of Abrielle, meaning he cared and she was of value to him, even if it was just for her connection. That alone was enough to protect the Lady.
"I had no idea I could be restricted entry into the city hall. I am a diplomat, you can’t harm me." She scoffed at the knight who had a dead expression. They stood at a stalemate for a while and the princess refused to give up. Elias’s eyes dulled as his eyes caught a figure behind Sapphire.
