Chapter 72: Preparation For The Banquet (2)

The Duke couldn’t really endure even a few minutes of being mad with his son. Although he wasn’t really mad about it, He also understood that as Arren grew up, he would need to spend most of his time with his chosen alpha, and that time finally came.

He was still a little reluctant about entrusting his son to others, but Arren was obviously happy with being the Emperor. One thing he was fortunate for and relieved about was that it was Spade, and Duke Evan trusted that he would treat his treasured son right. If not, he would choose his son over any loyalty.

Still, he had to ask. He had to be sure.

"Son, are you happy?"

Arren lifted his head and looked at his father at this question. He noticed that his father was watching his face intently, and it seemed that the question had a few hidden meanings inside.

And he was aware of what it was. Arren’s arms around his father’s tightened, and the corner of his eyes began to heat up. His dad always thinks of him first, and now he suddenly feels guilty for taking his father’s love for granted most of the time.

Without averting his gaze, he nodded at his father and smiled genuinely.

"Yes, dad," he answered, and his smile widened through his eyes as the corner of his eyes glistened from the forming tears. "I’m truly happy, so, dad. You don’t have to worry too much, and... thank you. I love you so much, dad."

As soon as he finished, the tears streamed down his cheeks. He became emotional because of the question; it was just that he felt that the seemingly innocent question was filled with genuine feelings from his dad. As a result, he couldn’t stop himself from being emotional.

His father immediately hugged him and patted his back gently.

"It’s good that you’re happy, I’m glad." His father’s response was simple, and yet with his tone and a voice that sounded a bit shaky, Arren knew his father only embraced so that he couldn’t see his tears as well.

It took a few minutes before they calmed down and began to talk normally about things like Arren’s life in the palace and some details about the Duke.

The father and son had a conversation for almost an hour before Spade arrived, and the alpha instantly became the center of attention in the room.

"Duke Evan," Spade greeted him casually, although with a hint of respect. Not only because he was Arren’s father but also because he was someone he respected. Before he became an Emperor, Duke Evan was already a Duke then and guided him a lot when he only ascended from the throne.

"Your Majesty," Duke Evan stood up and slightly bowed, while Arren remained sitting on the couch. He watched as this happened before him. At this time when Arren remembered that the status of his lover was extraordinary.

He forgot about it at times and only remembered when someone respectfully greeted Spade in front of him.

Spade waved his hand and motioned for the Duke to sit down. Although, he was technically an elder, as was his soon-to-be in-law, a custom was still a custom they needed to abide by.

They stared at each other and then nodded. Arren noticed this exchange between them, and his eyes narrowed. He might be dense sometimes, but occasionally he could sense things better than most. With only this minute exchange, Arren guessed that Spade and his dad had something to say to each other.

"Ah, right. I think it’s time for me to choose my outfit for the banquet next week with Rave," he decided to excuse himself so they could talk comfortably with each other. Although it was okay to talk about confidential matters with him around, Arren still chose to not hear anything more than necessary.

Spade would inform him about it later, and he didn’t want to get in the way of official matters.

The two looked at him and decided not to pursue, as they were aware that the omega was only being considerate and wanted them to talk with each other alone more comfortably.

He smiled at his father and then at Spade, he was still conscious enough in front of his father and didn’t flirt too much with the alpha. Otherwise, how would he face his father later after learning that side of him? It was true that he was shameless most of the time, but he still wanted to maintain an innocent image in front of his father.

However, who would tell Arren that the Duke definitely didn’t have an innocent image of his son but was aware of his real personality all along? Well, Arren knew for sure but was deceiving himself.

Arren excused himself; he could now walk by himself without anyone supporting him for a few hours, so a cast wasn’t necessary anymore. As he left the two men inside the drawing room, he went straight to the room where he often did his online studies. It was actually just two doors away from his location.

"Rave!" he yelled as soon as he entered the room. The white-haired omega lifted his head and his gaze, which was fixed on the book he was reading, and looked at him. Arren noticed his judging eyes once more.

He rolled his eyes at the omega and sat beside Rave. Actually, he didn’t have any appointment at all to look for any outfits with Rave. It was just an excuse; however, he truly did have the intention to consult the omega about it.

"Rave... can you help me?" he asked pitifully, fluttering his eyes toward the omega. However, his charms didn’t have as much of an effect as the other’s brows twitched and he was forced to maintain his graceful appearance, and yet the almost scowling expression didn’t escape Arren.

His smile trembled and the corner of his eyes twitched; suddenly, he was itching to hit the white-haired omega’s head. One thing they discovered after spending time with each other for more than two weeks was that they truly were different. And... different was even an understatement of it.

It was like they were destined to be enemies kind of different. The other maintained his graceful and respectful image, and the other maintained his friendly and outgoing appearance. In other words, the two of them hated each other’s guts but didn’t want to directly say it to each other’s faces. So, they maintained a cordial yet sarcastic stance while together.

However, if Spade and Levin were here, the two of them wouldn’t agree that the two omegas were destined to be enemies at all. Perhaps, saying the two of them will become best friends in the future isn’t impossible. But for now, they were silently at each other’s throats.

"How can I help you, Arren?" Rave’s graceful voice resounded, almost mistaken for a friend’s serious concern, but the bland tone made Arren’s palm itchy.

Was it okay to pull the other person’s vocal cords? He thought this voice was cute before, but it was suddenly annoying when it spoke against him. However, he only massaged his palm, which was suddenly itchy to hit someone’s face.

Arren maintained a grin on his face, then revealed his intention: "I just don’t know what should I wear to the banquet next week,"

Rave’s brow arched up and he nodded, becoming attentive. "What do you want to wear? Tell me what kind of outfits you usually wear every year at the banquet."

"I wear anything at all that the designer told me to, what do you think is good?" Arren then told him in detail about his outfits.

Rave nodded, listening intently. "Then, what do you think of..." proceeded to suggest something seriously.

Ironically enough, while they were secretly at each other’s throats, as they say, their interactions with each other say otherwise.
