Chapter 227: Game One (7)

Knowing that he was the shadow wasn’t exactly terrifying, but the thought of that shadow being related to his second life was. If the shadow was indeed referring to himself, then that only meant he was already related to this life earlier on and didn’t remember it.

Arren shook his head, no, was it really possible? His brows knitted against each other as he kept his thoughts running. After a while, he again froze as another guess dawned on him.

This time, the change in his expression was already visible in his eyes. If the shadow being himself didn’t make sense to him, then was that shadow... the real Arren?

Subconsciously, Arren gripped his pants because of the emotion that suddenly washed over him. Ever since, Arren has never questioned his reincarnation or where the real Arren was. Perhaps it was because he had already lived as Arren since day 1, not unlike the other transmigrators in the novels who transmigrated halfway and not since their childhood.

Only recently did Arren often think of the real Arren if he hadn’t transmigrated in the novel. He also became horrified because of Spade’s sudden vision whenever he looked at him.

Now, if the shadow was indeed the real Arren, what if the vivid memories were also Arren’s memories? All at once, it made more sense to him.

While Arren was having a battle on his mind, Ms. M’s eyes were still fixed on him, and she observed his expression. Arren couldn’t hide the shock and complication on his face, and Ms. M easily understood how much his confusion was already turning into fear and could lead to the omega losing sight of what he was supposed to discover within himself.

"Young Master," Ms. M knew she had to interrupt Arren’s thoughts while also muttering worriedly inside how this was going to be a tough one.

It wasn’t visible on the surface, but Arren’s defenses in his deepest subconscious were by far the strongest she encountered. Even without reading his mind and only scrutinizing the omega’s expression, the old woman already had an idea of how much Arren contradicted himself inside.

It was beyond the fear of facing the issue that Ms. M vaguely sensed that Arren’s reason to not accept his guesses and couldn’t help but contradict them was also from a fact that couldn’t be ignored.

At the first call, Arren seemed to be still lost in his thoughts, and Ms. M needed to repeat calling him again to wake him up. The second time, Arren blinked, and Ms. M successfully caught his attention again.

Arren only realized that he had contemplated for far longer than he intended and lifted his head to look at Ms. M. However, after formulating his conjectures in his mind, it was harder to lighten his mood again.

Instead of forcing a smile, Arren showed his heavy feelings and chose to be honest. After all, there was no need to hide it, as Ms. M could definitely notice the change in his mentality.

"I’m sorry," Arren apologized in a weak tone, lowering his gaze and looking at his hands that were resting in his lap. He pursed his lips and said honestly, "I was caught up in my thoughts."

Ms. M stared at him for a while; she didn’t say anything, but silently she brewed another tea. Minutes passed as she spoke again.

"Young Master, do you really want to know the answer?" she asked, as their eyes met. A small, kind smile appeared on her lips. "Sometimes, asking ourselves too many questions at once will make us even more confused. Take a step back, then ask yourself the first question and answer it first before asking yet again after they are proven wrong."

She then paused and put tea slowly in their cups, but for some reason, she calmed Arren’s thoughts which had already started to get mixed up. Once she was done and put the kettle back into position, Ms. M held his cup and looked up at him.

"Trial and error are sometimes annoying, and it makes you impatient, I know. We want results; we sometimes think that our time is limited, so we tend to quickly ignore the process and take a shortcut." Ms. M sipped some of her tea, as though she wasn’t in a rush to finish her words, letting Arren listen and process them for a while longer.

As she put her cup down again, she continued. "But we also forget how sometimes in the process where we can get the most of our lessons and experiences most than the result. Yes, we can get failures and setbacks all throughout the journey, but that is part of the process of discovering the right answer. Chances are we can also encounter answers that we’re not hoping for at first but can be considered the right for us."

"Young Master, we can take the matter slowly, and eventually, the answer to your questions will be answered; just trust yourself," she concluded in a tone that inexplicably made him calm down.

Process... Arren was also one of those who would take a shortcut if he could. He didn’t mind the overall plan, but he also looked for success most of the time.

However, as the words came from Ms. M, for some reason, Arren began to think that it could really work. No matter the answers to his questions, they were both equally terrifying for him, which could potentially change his point of view the most.

"What could we do? Where should we start?" Arren began his words with some hesitance in his tone, but he finished them firmly.

Ms. M stared at him with observation in her eyes as she gradually widened her smile, as though proud of him for taking the step forward.

"Young Master, where do you want us to start?"

Despite the conflicted emotions, Levin still composed himself and made his way to his mission. Unlike when he had his own mission before and was rather easygoing to his comrades, recently the light in his eyes had dimmed significantly, and even his subordinates and comrades were unable to approach him like usual.

He silently trailed off into the hallways of the palace; it was noticeably quieter at this time. Although the palace always had a solemn atmosphere, there was still a touch of liveliness, as some royal attendants and guards were still walking around.

However, the place was now on high alert, and entry or exit was strictly forbidden unless authorized to do so. Some attendants also began to be arrested one after another, so most of them were in their rooms and scared to be suspected as spies.

His group silently strode through the hallways when he suddenly stopped, eyes looking ahead. He was only standing against the wall as though waiting for something, but as the omega lifted his head, their eyes met instantly.

RAve... Levin muttered inside, afraid to voice it out loud. While looking at him, the guilt that was inside him for the omega quickly surfaced, making him clench his hands into a fist.

The men behind him, though confused about why they stopped, all remained silent and waited for Levin.

He swallowed his guilt and chose to focus on his mission first. When he talked to Rave that night, he already accepted that being together with the Omega would not happen in this life. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom

Levin couldn’t even dare look him in the eye for long, so how would he even aim that high? He needed to atone for the sins of his parents, and he wouldn’t ask for too much for Rave other than the thought that the Omega wouldn’t hate him..

He mocked himself again; even that was selfish to wish for.

His footsteps began, and he walked ahead, hoping that he could succeed without glancing or looking back once. But the moment he was closer to Rave’s position and about to pass by him, Rave unexpectedly spoke, which made him stop again.

"Is that why you’re apologizing to me?" Rave softly asked. Levin didn’t respond, and the Omega appeared to not mind and opened his mouth to say something again. It was so low that it was almost inaudible even in Levin’s ears despite the silence, so he doubted the other royakkl guards behind him heard what Rave said.

"I knew you were dangerous..."

Levin clenched his teeth and lowered his head, clenching his palms so tightly that his nails almost buried them in his skin.

He forced a smile and said, "So you need to stay as far away from me as possible." As Levin said that, he already began walking again, increased his pace, and passed by the omega, leaving Rave where he was.

Once he was already in the car, Levin breathed and blinked, rubbing his face and the corners of his eyes. He looked outside, and the palace was almost disappearing in his eyes, as though he could still see the figure of the omega.

Levin shut his eyes and leaned on the window.

My mission. I need to focus on my mission. Levin chanted inside, but Rave’s image and what he said still lingered in his mind.

Rave couldn’t stop the alpha from leaving, and the silence of the hallways once more enveloped him. It was even somewhat eerie and lonely. His eyelids drooped, and he turned his head in the direction of the gate as though wanting to chase the alpha with his eyes.

"I knew you were dangerous, and I need to hate you," Rave whispered, his hands touching his chest, which were tightening from how his heart was throbbing. "But I can’t."

Was it the worst part of realizing your feelings toward someone?
