Chapter 226: Game One (6)

The surprise raid by the agents and authorities started simultaneously, garnering attention from the citizens no matter how they tried to keep the commotion smaller.

As the teams emerged and showed themselves, some nobles still wanted to retaliate, but after knowing that this was the order of the emperor, all of them knew that they had been discovered and only wanted to escape.

However, the majority of the targeted noble spies on the list were captured quite easily, and the agents managed to secure them. These were the disposable spies in the eyes of the organization, and they weren’t alerted to the upcoming raid.

And a few of the noble spies had now started to fight back in their teams; these were those who might already have high authority in the organization.

"Is it starting?" Spade asked, as soon as he entered the room and sat in his seat. From the beginning, he already anticipated that some of the nobles would retaliate against their forces, and they were prepared to come to the battlefield.

His voice echoed across the room, and he became the center of attention instantly.

Ace, who was acting Levin’s role as the Chief Guard as the latter had a mission of his own, stood up and saluted before answering his question.

"Yes, Your Majesty." He then handed the earpiece to Spade, "As of now, there are only three nobles who fought back against our forces." Ace then informed Spade of the names and titles of the three nobles.

Spade took the earpiece and wore it. He crossed his legs and faced the big monitors in front, which were playing what was happening on the battlefield. A few drones were dispatched, and together with full control of all the CCTVs in the domains, they had a vision of almost every area in the empire.

"Heh, left faction." Spade sneered and spoke in a deadpan tone, as though already judging this verdict on them in his mind. It seemed Duke Merphen had indeed cultivated quite a few traitors in his ranks.

While watching the monitors, his eyelids moved, and he focused on one battlefield. "What about Duke Merphen’s mansion?"

The noble district was now also encircled by the royal guards and authorities, which alerted almost all the nobles but forced them to shut up when they mentioned Spade’s name. Some of the noble spies in the capital were much worse than those in their domains, as they were practically trapped inside and couldn’t do anything else aside from waiting for miracles.

After all, all of Spade’s forces were still concentrated in the capital; even Marquis Ford knew this and was forced to flee. Unless he wanted to go all out against Spade, he could only escape for the time being.

The mansions of all the noble spies on their list and even those still under suspicion of being spies on the capital were barred, and the families were put under house arrest. This was indeed a night of chaos from too much happening all at once.

"Duke Merphen was already gone when the agents arrived," Ace somewhat regretfully answered. As a key member of the organization, it would be nice if they managed to secure him. However, since he was indeed an important member, it was unsurprising that he had already disappeared after someone warned him.

Spade was also disappointed, but he anticipated it. Those who betrayed him, he would not leave them off lightly. And Duke Merphen not only betrayed Spade or the empire but his late father the most.

He waved his hand and brushed the matter off with Duke Merphen; his family was now in their hands, as was even his wealth, so sooner or later, the old Duke would come and appear before them again.

"Make sure to still pay attention to all the family members of the spies, but aside from not being allowed to go out of the house or contact the outside world, their treatment is still as per usual."

Although being related to the spies also implicated the families, there was a procedure they had to go through first to be proven as accomplices or innocents. Spade would not go too far just because he was mad and would still act as a monarch should.

Ace acknowledges his order. Spade focused his gaze on the monitor as he asked another. "What about the internet? Release my statement already if it’s already exploded."

Their original plan was for his statement to be released when the operation was almost finished and they closed off the capital. Releasing his statement could not calm the anxious hearts of the citizens completely, but it would still have an effect since it came from Spade.

However, in the internet era, a snap of a photo or video could trend easily, and even Spade could not stop it completely unless he purposely did so, but that was unfair to his citizens, who had to be informed of the battle that was happening and about to happen in the future.

He knew without someone telling him that the battle that was erupting in every part of the empire or the increasing forces about to close the capital was already in the heated discussions of his citizens or the world.

The people were not fools. Even they could notice the dangerous shift of the era in the air.

Ace stiffened for a moment, then nodded his head. In an operation and on an unexpected battlefield, a change of plan would always occur almost every time an operation took place.

Spade shifted in his seat, eyeing the almost-finished battle on the part of the monitor he was watching. The scenes that were in the conference room were only those they thought were important for Spade to witness, while some were still being monitored in the monitor rooms somewhere across the empire by the team assigned to them.

It was a tedious job, but one of the most crucial and even the hardest, as it required the highest concentration and keen observation. They were also the team that was looking for the trail of Levin’s parents.

"Barricade Count Minnervo’s domain. Cleanse it thoroughly, and while doing so, calm the hearts of the people, and compensate those who should be compensated. I’ll strip off his title and confiscate all his properties." Spade calmly spoke and added, "The same with the other two."

There was a huge possibility; these domains hid some forces and agents of the organization, and they still had to tread cautiously lest they fall into their trap.

After his series of orders, Spade fell silent. The voices of orders and affirmations resounded in his ear while he also focused his eyes on watching what was happening in the front lines. Ace stood straight beside him, waiting for him to speak again.

While watching them silently, Spade clasped his hand and then narrowed his eyes. The big opening was indeed his intended effect. How could his people and the world be convinced of the danger of the organization if they couldn’t see it with their own eyes?

Humans were such beings; unless they saw the evidence in their eyes and felt the upcoming danger, they would move according to your intention. Spade wouldn’t waste his saliva talking to the world leaders or his citizens if there wasn’t a threat yet; if it was visible, then everyone would act.

As he saw how the two sides fought and there was gunfire or explosions everywhere, Spade still couldn’t help but sigh. War...

"Vivid dreams?" Ms. M repeated. She stared at Arren and fell silent to ponder his words. "Is it really a vivid dream?" She then inquired, pausing and looking Arren straight in the eyes.

Her question also made Arren think of the answer.

"Or is it a memory your subconscious has hidden deep inside and is now slowly being revealed through your dreams?" Although it sounded like a question, Ms. M appeared to be only letting Arren realize it without saying it as a statement.

Arren froze, and his jaw dropped slightly. Ms. M only spoke out loud about what had been on his mind. Arren already had a conjecture that what he dreamed of was only part of his memories, but he didn’t know what exactly it was.

What was holding him back from thinking of his vivid dreams as memories was that they seemed not to be really related to his past or current life. At least, Arren was sure, even if he had already forgotten them because he occasionally had an impression of them whenever he tried hard enough to remember bits and pieces of that dream he had on the island.

Since his first vivid dream was when he was young and recalled his past life, and then when he recalled the time his mother was killed in front of him, Arren suddenly frowned. Come to think of it, when he fainted at the banquet and went into a coma, he was also in a strange dream talking to some shadow that was waiting for someone.

He could also vaguely remember talking again to that shadow, but he didn’t know what they talked about the second time. If Ms. M and his guess were right that his vivid dreams always had a connection with his deepest memories, then what did that shadow signify?

Arren thought for a while for the answer when a realization dawned on him, his eyes widening in surprise.

Was it possible that... The shadow was himself? As though the puzzles were slowly coming together, Arren lifted his stunned eyes, not knowing what to say with the conjecture he just had.
