Chapter 26: Chapter 26

Alexis stared at him in such shock that even her wolf, Sereia, had to make herself visible, gazing at Keelion with disbelief.

"Are you okay?" Keelion asked silkily, his sudden touch on her feet causing her toes to curl.

"Y-yes."

She winced as he began to clean the blisters under her feet, snatching her it back.

"That really stings."

From Keelion’s glare, she didn’t know when she gave her feet back to him, screwing her face in pain.

This time around, he didn’t just clean and treat the blisters, he was blowing on it while doing so, as if to help lessen the sting.

Alexis swallowed. She wasn’t sure what she would call an intimate touch, but this felt intimate—so much that she shivered at every gentle touch.

"Wow, kid..."

’What?’

"You sure he doesn’t want to keep us? I mean, I’m sure Keelion Fane would never go down on his knees for anyone, not even that bitch that thinks he regards her."

’That’s mean.’ Alexis frowned.

"I’m just being honest, girl. Do you know how crazy those people would go if they found out Keelion Fane, their supreme alpha, is right here on his knees, holding your dirty feet and cleaning and treating them for you?"

Alexis’s eyes moved back to Keelion and she watched as he handled her feet with such focus as if he didn’t want to hurt her in any way.

"They wouldn’t even believe it, because it’s just impossible. But it’s not," Sereia mumbled, comfortably stretching and curling her big frame up in her lap.

’You’re heavy, Reia.’

"Are you calling me fat?"

But Alexis wasn’t paying attention, because her fingers were itching to remove the strands of hair that fell over Keelion’s forehead. His hair was always styled in a slick back, so she had never seen it tousled or messed up.

It looked too soft too, and she wanted to touch it, just to know how it would feel against her fingertip. And eventually, she was unable to control her curiosity, hand reaching out to run over his forehead, packing up the hair as her finger ran through the silky soft strands.

Keelion stiffened. That made her freeze like a statue as well, fingers staying stuck in his hair.

He peeked at her hand first before his gaze landed on her.

Neither of them said a word, but the sudden raise of his brow forced her to quickly take her hand back, snapping her back to her senses.

"I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to!"

He gazed at her. She couldn’t read him or at least tell what was going through his mind.

"Anyone else would have lost their hands if they did what you just did," he laughed darkly.

"Do you heal quickly as other omegas do?" he added a question before she could rack her brains around his words.

Alexis shook her head. "No...I take a while to heal."

A soft breath fled his nose, and he wrapped her feet in light bandages before rising just enough to halt at her height, a warning glint in his eyes. "Never you walk around barefoot. I don’t want to see this again. And if anyone decides you will tell them I said no. Got it?"

She nodded.

"Answer with your words, Alexis."

"I understand."

"Good." He packed everything up and put the box back into the cabinet. "Have a rest in my room. You’ll be off work for two days and if anyone asks, I’m punishing you..." He looked at her. "...Privately."

Sereia peeked open an eye at him. Then frowned as he suddenly approached Alexis, grabbed her hand without warning, and lifted her into his arms. This caused her to crash to the floor with a heavy thud, a growl of pain fleeing her throat.

"A little warning would have been nice, you know!" She glared at Keelion even though she knew the man couldn’t see her.

Alexis awkwardly smiled at her and wrapped her arms around Keelion’s neck as he left the bathroom, making his way over to the king-sized bed where he put her down.

"Rest. And do not come out of this room unless I allow you to."

She nodded and watched him change into a clean pair of shirts and slacks before leaving the room, shutting it behind him.

Sereia, who’d come out of the bathroom, hopped onto the bed and curled next to her.

"Everywhere smells so good. It reeks of him." Alexis snuggled her face into the pillow, throwing her arm over her wolf’s massive soft frame. "His smell is fading in the other room. I wish I could stay in here."

Sereia sighed, clearly as addicted to the scent as she was. "I agree with you, but I’m still pissed off."

"I’m sorry," she whispered, caressing her fingers up and down her fur.

"Where is the beta?"

Althea questioned, stepping towards Augustus, who was instructing some staff. The man turned and bowed respectfully at her before straightening up.

"The beta?" he asked. "Do you mean Alexis?"

She rolled her eyes. "I don’t care for his name. Where the hell is he?"

"I’m not sure," Augustus responded. "Last I saw him around afternoon, something had happened between him and the alpha, and well... the alpha dragged him off."

"What?!" Althea looked rather confused. "Wait, what happened between them?"

"He accidentally hosed the alpha."

"Huh?" She blinked at him. "H-hosed him? You mean—"

"Yes, he drenched him."

As shocking as that was to her, deep down within her, she was gleeful because the Keelion Fane she knew would never let that slide.

What had she ever been worried about? The idiot got himself into trouble, she didn’t even need to lift a hand.

Shaking her head in amusement, she turned and left, making her way into the building to head upstairs. This should be a good time to meet Keelion. Yes, the man had been in a bad mood the past week, but she was sure this week was different.

He didn’t seem annoyed in any way and was rather approachable. Maybe she should try...making him feel good. That should be fine, shouldn’t it? If not her, who else would he want? Who else could give him what she can give him?

She arrived at his door, adjusting her clothing before proceeding to knock.

"Who?"

"Althea. It’s me, Fane."

"Do you need anything?"

"No..." She blinked rapidly. "I just...I would like to see you."

"I’m busy. We’ll see in the morning."

Her face paled, confusion striking her. "But...I really want to see you now. Can I please come in?"

"I said I’m busy. I’ll see you in the morning. Get some sleep, Althea." And that was it, nothing more from him but pure silence. She stood there at the door for a few long minutes, hoping he would change his mind, but the man never spoke.

What had she done wrong, and why was he avoiding her with every chance he got? Why was he treating her like this—as if she wasn’t a woman he was bound to spend his life with?
