Chapter 87: What Do You Expect?

Aurora felt extremely embarrassed at that moment. She believed Alex was worried and cared for her because he had begun to like and accept her.

Nonetheless, all of that was so wrong. The truth is, Alex was worried about her because he didn’t want this contractual marriage to end before the contract period was over.

’Rory, what do you really expect? This man only cares about his wealth and himself. He will never show affection for you. Can you stop dreaming of those unrealistic possibilities? That someday he will love you? He won’t!’

A faint smile appeared on her face as she began to feel more like herself again.

"Don’t worry. I’ll always remember that..."

For a brief moment, Aurora met his surprised gaze, but soon, his surprise waned as he stood from the bed and moved to the window to gaze at the view below.

Looking at him standing there with his back facing her, she feels puzzled about what to do.

Many questions swirled in her mind, and her worry about tomorrow’s birthday party soon preoccupied her thoughts and affected her mood.

Aurora musters the courage to ask, "Alex, about our plan for tomorrow, should I proceed to attend?"

Deep down, she still clings to the hope that Alex will allow her to stay, especially since her head is still bandaged. Even though she doesn’t feel any pain at all, how could she show up there with a bandage on her head?

Rather than answer her, he asked, "Do you still feel any pain from your wounds?" His eyes were sharp on her as if he wanted to read her mind.

"No. I don’t feel any pain anymore, but I feel weird if I appear like this," she lightly touched her bandage.

Alex walked up and stood close to the bed, near her. Aurora felt her heart race, with the familiar tension enveloping her once more.

"You don’t have to go if you’re still feeling hurt. But if you’re not, then you must accompany me." Alex paused to wait for her reaction but saw her freeze again, as usual, since he had entered the room. He continued, "I’m sorry, Aurora, but you can’t avoid it this time."

Despite her disappointment with the response, she managed a wry smile.

"If you’re concerned that the bandage might make you look less beautiful, there’s no need to worry. You can always use a wonderful little accessory called a ’wig’ to help you to make you pretty."

Aurora didn’t care about what he said; she was too shocked to hear this man speak so many words in a single sentence.

’When did this frigid and tightfisted man become so talkative?’ she pondered, glancing at him before averting her gaze.

She hoped he would soon leave her alone, as she no longer wished to talk to him.

After a brief moment of awkward silence, Alex’s voice echoed, "Are you sleepy and want to lie down?"

"How did you know?" she asked innocently, trying to be polite by answering his question.

"I can see through your expression and gaze." freewēbnoveℓ.com

’Yeah, I’m tired. Tired of talking to you,’ she could only express in her mind.

She nodded in response before adjusting her bed to its original setting. However, Alex’s large, strong hand stopped her, holding her in place.

Aurora felt a rush of surprise at their physical contact once more. The sensation was familiar, sending her heart racing and making her pulse loud and lively again.

She stared at his warm hand holding hers before slowly lifting her head to meet his blue eyes. His gaze appeared calm as he looked at her, but with a glance, she could see the surprise within them.

"I’ll help you," he offered before letting go of her hand and adjusting her bed. He carefully helped her lie down and placed her pillow correctly.

Aurora held her breath, trying to avoid the familiar scent that could remind her of him once more. She felt tense, and her heartbeat raced—fast enough to worry her that she might die from excitement.

"Thank you, Alex," Aurora whispered as she saw him standing tall again, gazing at her silently. She continued, "Maybe you’ll be back in the capital and won’t be here when I wake up, so let me say goodbye now. Alex, see you tomorrow..."

She smiled at him before pretending to sleep, even though she wasn’t feeling sleepy.

However, less than a minute later, Alex’s words caused her to suddenly open her eyes again and stare at him in surprise.

"Y-You’re going to stay in this city? And return with me tomorrow? Why!?" she asked, surprised.

Alex frowned in confusion as he gazed at her. "And why are you looking shocked?"

Aurora swallowed and replied, "I think you’re busy. You don’t need to stay, Alex. I won’t run away or skip your Grandpa’s birthday party tomorrow. I promise to be there."

His hands slipped into his pockets before he replied, "Even though I’m busy, I want to be certain that you will return safely to the capital without any injuries. Again!"

Aurora silently rolled her eyes while scolding him in her heart.

A faint smile curved Alex’s lips before he added, "And I’ll stay here in this room with you."

Aurora was at a loss for words. She believed that tomorrow, after leaving the hospital, she wouldn’t feel refreshed but would instead be even more exhausted.

How can he plan to sleep with her in this room? There’s only one bed and a three-seater sofa.

Before Aurora could stop him, she noticed a door on the other side of her bed. She could guess the room was the patient’s family bedroom.

’Well, at least he can sleep there,’ she sighed, relieved.

"Alright, go get some rest now. I’ll be going out for a while to take care of something..." he said, walking toward the door. His expression darkened like a storm cloud loomed above him, surprising Aurora.

Suddenly, she recalled something that made her anxious. "Alex..." she called quickly, causing Alex to stop walking immediately and turn to her with a frown.

"Yes?"
