Chapter 84: Amnesia?

"Doctor, please hurry to check my young lady. How could she forget about me?"

Josh blurted out when the doctor appeared behind the door, followed by several nurses.

"Sir, allow me to examine her first," said the doctor, a middle-aged man with curly gray hair, approaching the bed with a serious look.

The doctor smiled at the young lady who lay on the bed, gazing at him weakly.

"Ms. Spencer, I’m glad you’re finally awake..." the doctor said, his warm smile gracing his face.

He briefly checked the pulse machine beside the bed before returning his attention to examine Aurora further.

After a while, he smiled at her again, "All your vital signs are normal, but I need you to answer and follow my orders," he paused, waiting for her response.

"Yes, doctor..."

"Could you please tell me your name and age?"

"Aurora Spencer, age twenty-two..."

"Do you remember where you are now?" he asked again.

"Sure. I’m in Hospital..." Aurora answered.

The doctor chuckled before apologizing for asking vague questions: "Ms. Spencer, what city are you in now? Do you reside in this city?"

"Opal City. I don’t live here; I reside in the capital but visited my hometown for my mother’s birthday."

"Very well..." The doctor nodded happily, pleased to see the young girl’s confident and swift responses to all his questions. There was no indication that she was experiencing amnesia.

"Alright, now for the last question. Do you recognize this man?" the doctor asked, pointing at Josh, who stood at the end of the bed. He smiled at Josh, trying to reassure him that the girl was fine.

Josh felt overly tense as he gazed at Aurora, awaiting her response, oblivious to the doctor’s comforting smile.

"Oh no, Doctor, I’m really sorry..." Aurora turned to the doctor, her expression thoughtful and a bit lost. "I don’t think I know him... could you tell me who he is?"

At that moment, Josh felt as if he had been hit by lightning upon hearing Aurora’s response.

’I’m finished! Young Madam doesn’t recognize me at all!’

His hands, resting at his sides, gently clenched.

"Ma’am, I can’t believe you forgot me! I’m Josh, your bodyguard..." Josh quickly tried to share his identity with a warm smile, but his gaze revealed his worry.

He frowned deeper because she didn’t say anything and only stared blankly at him.

"Ma’am, I arrived in this city with you. I found you unconscious in your father’s home; your father’s butler, Neil, struck your head with an oak ornament..."

Aurora finally responded. She said, "I remember that Neil hit me. Still, I apologize, sir... I don’t recall you at all."

Josh felt his knees weaken as if they had turned to tofu.

Helplessly, he looked at the doctor. "Doc, you see, right? My young Madam forgot about me. Please, Doc, do something to help her regain her full memory."

The doctor nodded slowly while checking Aurora once more before turning to Josh.

"It seems she has partial amnesia, perhaps memories she doesn’t wish to recall..." The doctor paused, appearing deep in thought before he added, "...but I can’t be sure yet. We must conduct some tests to ensure what happened to Ms. Spencer."

Josh agrees with the doctor, saying, "Yes, please, Doc. Do whatever it takes to help her fully regain her memories."

The doctor smiled at Josh and nodded before making a note in the logbook beside the patient’s bed. He then talked briefly with Josh and Aurora about scheduling the next examination before leaving to attend to another patient.

Just before the doctor walked away, Aurora gently spoke, "Doc, I’m sorry..." She paused to offer an apologetic smile.

Noticing his frown, Aurora added, "You don’t need to schedule another test for me, sir. I haven’t lost my memories; I just tried to tease my bodyguard...."

"What the...!? Aurora Spencer, are you actually joking?" Josh was left speechless.

How could she possibly prank him in such a terrifying moment? The fact that she had forgotten some of her memories made him feel nearly twice his age. He felt aged almost in an instant.

"Mmm, I’m only trying to tease you," she smiled at Josh before turning her gaze to the doctor again. "Doc, can I go home now? I feel much better..."

The doctor walked back toward Aurora, saying, "I’m sorry, but that’s impossible. We need to monitor your progress until tomorrow morning. I hope you understand."

Aurora said nothing more but nodded in agreement with the doctor. She offered another heartfelt apology before he finally took his leave.

"Really, Aurora?" Josh’s voice echoed through the room, prompting Aurora to refocus her attention on him.

He shook his head while moving to the side bed. Seeing her smile widen, he added, "Wow, you’re so heartless... I nearly fainted earlier, thinking you had completely forgotten about me."

"Sorry, Josh... It was fun to see you scared like that," she grinned and invited him to sit before asking what had happened to her. She didn’t remember anything after Neil hit her head.

Josh begins to share everything with her.

He started with his concerns that something felt wrong, prompting him to break into the house.

He continued to explain that Billy and his friends watched over the scene until the police arrived and secured everyone.

"Your uncle, Neil, and all involved are now at the police station for the investigation. And, the police may need your statement, but you can refuse if you prefer not to."

Aurora’s expression gradually became tense upon hearing that. She was reluctant to show up, fearing it might affect Alex if her name ever appeared in the police record.

"Josh, I feel like I don’t want to go there. But if they insist, it’s fine."

"No worries. We have a solution for that..." He smiled when he saw her concerned gaze.

"Thank you, Josh. I’m grateful you showed up just when needed. I can’t imagine how things would have turned out without you. Willow Spencer is genuinely wicked!"

Josh’s expression darkened after hearing Aurora thank him. He did nothing and regretted not being there to support her.

What he heard from Tina was that this girl had beaten up all the men there. After all the bad people were down, Neil hit her on the head until she finally passed out.

He glanced at her bandaged head, causing his heart to shrink again. "Aurora, please don’t say ’thank you’ to me. I did nothing but let you suffer."
