Aurora placed her cell phone back on the table after texting her lawyer.
Just before she walked to bed, her eyes fell on the black card Alex had just handed her.
"Honestly, Alex, why did you grant me this privilege? Is it because the company my father sold is so profitable and beneficial to you that you see me differently from your exes!?"
Knowing that her question would never be answered, Aurora could only sigh deeply as she placed the card in her wallet before finally making her way to the bed.
She will fly to Opal City tomorrow and is excited to help Aurora Spencer with her family issue there.
...
The following morning.
Yet again, Aurora found herself eating breakfast alone as Tina informed her that Alex had departed the house early in the morning.
’Does he dislike me that much? He knows I will fly to Opal City, but he still avoids me...’
This morning, Aurora didn’t feel like eating; she merely entered the dining room, anxious about Alex’s presence.
However, now that she knew he was not there, she felt like returning to her room to prepare. Yet, Tina wouldn’t let her leave.
"Don’t worry, ma’am. I’ve packed everything you’ll need for the trip in a suitcase and loaded it into the car," Tina smiles, placing fresh fruit beside Aurora.
"And you should eat something before your flight. Food tastes horrible when you are thirty thousand feet above land." She continues.
Aurora could only sit and try to enjoy her favorite tropical fruit while listening to Tina ask her many questions.
"Ma’am, will Mr. Alex fly with us to Opal City?"
Tina’s question made Aurora pause briefly before responding, "No. He’s busy with his company. Even on holidays, he still works."
"It’s a shame he can’t accompany you..." Tina’s disappointment shone through her eyes.
She hoped to see her young lady spend time with her husband to build a close relationship. However, instead of growing closer, they grew distant.
Aurora sets her empty cup aside and smiles at Tina. "Aunty, I have plenty of time to get closer to him, so there’s no need to worry."
Tina clenched her hands tightly; she wanted to avoid this topic, but her young mistress’s calmness worried her.
"I apologize, ma’am, but I’m truly concerned that the rumor I heard might be true," Tina said, her voice trembling as she could no longer hide her anxiety.
Suddenly, Tina’s sentence made Aurora curious. "Rumor? What rumor?" she asked.
Tina glanced around to ensure no other staff members were nearby before moving closer to Aurora, who sat beside her.
"I’m concerned about something I heard in the staff dorm."
Aurora frowned, surprised to hear Tina’s words.
"A few staff members commented that Master Alex doesn’t show affection for you, even the slightest. That’s why he always stays away from home. And... they also mentioned that there are concerns Master Alex might consider divorce as well..."
Tina’s complexion instantly drained as she noticed Aurora’s grim demeanor, with irritation apparent in her gaze.
"Sorry, Aurora... please forgive me," Tina said hurriedly. She was too panicked to call Aurora by her name. "Please ignore what I just said, Ma’am...that was a stupid thing to say," she continued, gently holding Aurora’s hand and begging.
"Aunty, I’m not angry with you. But how dare they gossip about Alex?" Aurora said, annoyed.
Even when she was still alive as Aurora Moon, all staff were prohibited from discussing Alex’s personal life, especially his marriage. That topic was deemed taboo in this place.
Only a few weeks after her death, the household staff had already forgotten the rule. Now, she began questioning Martin, who was not fulfilling his duties properly.
"Ma’am, I swear, I wasn’t gossiping with them. I just happened to hear them talking about your husband, and as soon as they spotted me, they just shut down." Tina paused to breathe.
"It’s not like I was trying to snoop or anything! But honestly, I can’t shake this weird feeling—they seriously have it out for me just because we’re close. You know what I mean?" Tina’s voice quivers slightly, anxiety bubbling up as she attempts to keep it casual. "I just thought you should know!"
Aurora smiled warmly, hoping to bring her some comfort. "Aunty, I trust you! Do I need to come by your dorm again to make sure I give them all a little scolding?"
Tina quickly agrees that Aurora should punish the gossipers who don’t fully accept her as their madam, as only a few staff members have welcomed her.
"Alright, I will make sure to meet the staff in their dorm once we return from Opal City."
"Yes, ma’am. I will gather the evidence we need..." Tina eagerly formulates a plan but is distracted by Aurora’s next question.
"Aunty, have you ever discussed it with Martin?"
"Even though he is nice to me, I still don’t fully trust him yet."
Tina’s answer is causing Aurora to smile inwardly. Martin is very trustworthy; he is Alex’s second most trusted person in this house, right after her.
Aurora stopped asking questions when she realized how late it had become.
It’s been a while since they both had a conversation like this. They had enjoyed their conversation at the dining table so much that they had utterly lost track of time!
...
Aurora was stunned to see their car heading to a private airport instead of a public one. She thought they would use Alex’s jet when returning tomorrow, but they would also take it to Opal City.
She glanced at Josh, sitting by the driver. He no longer wore bright clothing but returned in his favorite black ensemble, with army boots.
"Josh, why did you arrange for us to take this private plane? You know I already bought the flight ticket," Aurora finally expressed her concerns.
"I apologize, young ma’am. I’m simply following the orders from your husband..." A slight smile crept onto Josh’s face as he caught Aurora’s glare.
"Ma’am, we have arrived..." Josh said, quickly exiting the car and opening the door for her.
Aurora could only shake her head slowly, ignoring Josh. She glanced at Tina, who stared in awe at the black jet parked near their car.
"Whoa, are we really about to hop on a private jet? I feel like I’m in a dream right now! Finally, I get to ride in style." Tina laughs while looking at Aurora with wide eyes. "Ma’am, please pinch me; I need to know I’m not dreaming."
Aurora, "..."
