Chapter 162: Arrived at Graystone House

Soon enough, their car reaches Graystone’s main house.

Alex parked the car in the front yard and then turned to her, holding her hand gently.

He didn’t rush to speak or exit the vehicle; instead, he gazed at her silently.

After a brief pause, Alex finally broke the silence.

"Still, I need to apologize for making you sad—"

A frown crosses her forehead as she hears his self-blame. "Don’t say that, Alex. That’s not your fault. Besides, I’ll be meeting him here, too, right?"

"Oh, I have an idea. What if I tell him to take a vacation and stay away from the house while we’re here?" Alex’s suggestion earns her a glaring look.

How could he think that? She agreed to visit this house because of her father. It would be pointless if her father were away.

"Please don’t do that, Alex! I would feel grateful if I could talk to him."

She smiled at him, but her smile began to fade as Sophia Morrison appeared behind the main entrance door.

"Alex, we should leave now. Your mother is already aware of our arrival." She gestured for him to look at the house.

He chuckled warmly before saying, "Hmm, let’s go..."

...

Sophia’s first reaction when she spotted Aurora stepping out of the car was, "Oh my God, Aurora... Did you change your hair color?" Her smile no longer framed her beautiful face; now, only confusion flashed in her eyes.

Just as Aurora was about to respond to Sophia, Alex interrupted her.

He shared with his mother that Aurora wore a wig during their last visit due to her head injury.

Sophia gasped, even more startled.

"Oh my Lord, Aurora, are you hurt?" She reached to check Aurora’s head.

"Sophia, what Alex said is true. This is my real hair. And no need to worry—my injury has healed, and my hair is growing back slowly. You really won’t even notice it..."

Aurora feels slightly uneasy as she notices Sophia’s deep concern and caring nature towards her now.

This experience contrasts sharply with her past interactions with Sophia. While she attempts to erase memories of Sophia’s cruelty, she struggles to do so.

"I’m truly relieved and glad to hear that, Aurora," Sophia expressed, feeling reassured. She wrapped her arm around Aurora and quickly led her inside, leaving Alex to walk alone, trailing behind them.

Aurora noticed Alex’s annoyance from the corner of Aurora’s eye. It amused her to see him show his jealous side, even though he was envious of his mother.

As soon as they step into the living room, where Andrew and Matthew Graystone are waiting for them, they share the same expression as Sophia upon noticing her hair color.

Andrew Graystone can’t help but comment, "Aurora, your hair? Why did you change your hair color, my dear?"

"The hair looks good on you, Aurora. But I think it’s a bit bold, though..." Matthew Graystone said. frёewebnoѵēl.com

This time, it was not Alex who explained to them but Sophia who explained voluntarily.

Aurora feels a warm sense of relief now that she’s no longer in Sophia’s grasp. She could comfortably sit next to Alex, where she found comfort and relaxed more under his family’s loving attention.

Andrew Graystone quickly expressed his concern for Alex after hearing about what happened to Aurora’s head.

"Brat, how could you not take care of your wife?" Andrew’s disappointed voice echoed, drawing out a somber expression from Alex.

"Alex, you need to focus more on your wife. She married you only a few months ago, yet she’s already struggling." Matthew Graystone also joined in to scold his son.

Aurora, who saw everything unfold before her eyes, could only manage a smile.

Because she didn’t want them to scold her innocent husband, Aurora hurriedly explained that she had been injured while visiting her hometown, and Alex had not been with her at that moment.

She hoped they would stop blaming her husband, but they didn’t. They even openly accused him of not caring for her enough.

"Tsk, tsk, brat, why do you let your wife travel to her hometown alone? That was not a sign of a good, proper husband," Andrew shook his head, disappointed in his grandson.

"Alex, please don’t allow Aurora to travel alone next time. If you’re unable to go with her, just inform me. I can accompany her since I have plenty of time." Sophia offers her assistance.

Aurora was at a loss for words; she preferred to go alone rather than have Sophia accompany her.

She turned to see Alex and could only offer him an apologetic smile, conveying through her gaze that she would remain silent.

After everything she had said, her husband was always to blame.

It seems amusing since she is so joyful about their affection for her, yet it also brings sadness to Alex.

Fortunately, they’ve shifted their focus away from her. They chat about business, and trivial family matters for the remaining hour before lunch.

...

After enjoying a lovely lunch, Aurora had no choice but to follow Sophia to the first floor. In contrast, Alex focused on his work in his home study on the second floor.

Alex talked to Patrick about Zee, who had not yet replied to the texts they had sent her.

"Patrick, can you check if she has read the text yet?" Alex asks, eager to find out. The text he sent her showed no sign of her having read it.

"Yes. I see the icon indicating she read it. But she hasn’t replied, which confuses and scares me." Patrick says in concern.

"What are you trying to say?" Alex stood up from his seat and gazed outside the window, frowning as he saw Aurora alone in the backyard garden.

As he was about to finish his call with Patrick to join Aurora, he noticed Thomas Moon walking towards her.

Alex changed his mind about going over there; he let her speak to Thomas, knowing she longed for her father, and Thomas Moon always reminded her of him.

"I asked, what if Zee genuinely wanted to attack and hurt us? Was the strange message she sent me actually a test?"

Patrick’s stressed tone was enough to cause an apparent flicker of worry in Alex’s gaze.
