Rebirth as The Billionaire's Seventh Wife-Chapter 157: Too Shocking!
Chapter 157: Too Shocking!
Aurora let out a deep breath while trying to smile at Danny, even though her smile failed to reach her eyes.
"It’s my fate meeting you, Danny..." Aurora calmly said. She felt terrible because she couldn’t tell him the truth, even though she desperately wanted to.
Danny was taken aback, and a thin line appeared on his forehead as he asked, "Me? Why me?"
Aurora nodded thoughtfully, replying, "Yes, it’s because of you, Danny. I’m still shocked to know you are Maxwell’s brother. That’s my fate meeting you..."
Renata couldn’t hold back a chuckle upon hearing Aurora’s answer.
At the same time, Josh shook his head but said nothing.
Danny tried to trust her, even though it didn’t sound convincing.
...
Their conversation continued as they enjoyed the live music and food.
As the night progressed, the restaurant’s guests began to leave one by one, signaling the restaurant’s closing time.
When Aurora wanted to excuse herself to go home, Josh suddenly excused himself to take a call.
She let him talk on the phone outside and continued her conversation with Renata and Danny.
Renata wrapped her arm around Aurora as if she didn’t want her to go home early.
"Rory, can you stay longer? Why hurry home if your husband won’t arrive soon, huh?"
"Oh, right, when will you introduce us to your husband, Aurora?" Danny asked curiously, eager to know who the fortunate man was to get a girl as beautiful and bright as Aurora.
He has repeatedly asked Aurora, yet she continues to avoid discussing with anyone about her husband, much less inviting him to meet them.
Aurora often told them that her husband was out of town on duty or busy with work. He knew that Aurora’s husband must be wealthy because that man could afford to hire a bodyguard to protect Aurora.
"I’m sorry, Danny," Aurora responded, feeling guilty for her dishonesty. "I can’t ask him to come here..."
Aurora’s voice halted when she noticed Renata gasping, her gaze shifting to the door. She seemed to have just seen someone who came to collect her soul.
She followed Renata’s line of sight and was shocked to see Alex in his black suit, looking handsome and staring at her.
A smile emerged on his lips as he walked toward their table.
’What the... Why is he suddenly here? Why didn’t he call me first...’
Aurora silently scolded herself for not checking her cell phone. Alex must have called her earlier.
"Heaven! What brings Alexander Graystone here? We’re already closing..." Renata remarked as she stood and moved closer to him.
Even though Renata didn’t find Alex likable, she needed to welcome him as politely as possible; after all, she owned this restaurant, and if Alex became a patron of her restaurant, it would bring a positive image and a lot more attention.
"Alex, what brings you here? I’m shocked to see you in my humble restaurant," Renata said with a half smile. "I’m sorry, we are closed now. But I can cook for you if you want to try our best menu."
Danny was also surprised to see a big shot like Alexander Graystone come to this place.
’Why does he show up now? I don’t recall him being here when Rory was still alive. Did he come here because he misses Rory?’ Danny pondered, watching Alex as he halted in front of Renata.
Aurora was speechless. She took a deep breath in silence as she prepared to leave, knowing Alex was coming to pick her up.
She had to rush and get him out before Alex responded to Renata and revealed their marriage.
"Thank you, Miss Renata," Alex calmly replied before glancing at Aurora. "I came here to pick up my wife."
Aurora froze. She could only scold him with her gaze. How could he say that before asking her permission to reveal their marriage to her friends?
"Wife? Who’s your wife... Oh shit... your wife..." Renata’s voice faded as she glanced towards Aurora. "Rory, you married him? Seriously!?"
Renata was not the only one taken aback by Alex’s words; Danny was equally stunned. He looked at Aurora, speechless. A quick look revealed the answer, conveyed through her awkward smile and gaze.
Before Aurora could respond to Renata, Alex continued walking and stopped before her.
"I tried calling you, but you didn’t pick up, so I came to get you. Let’s go..." He extended his hand.
Aurora had no choice but to accept his hand and stand before him.
"Sorry, I didn’t notice your call, Alex," she said while trying to calm her loud heartbeat.
A warm, gentle smile shone on Alex’s lips as he squeezed her hand affectionately and said, "It’s fine. I happened to know you’re still here from Josh."
Aurora responded to him with a warm smile before turning to catch a glimpse of Renata and Danny.
She silently swallowed, looking at their shocked expressions as they stared at her.
"Rena, Danny... I’m happy to introduce you to my husband! This is Alex," Aurora said with a warm smile, glancing back at Alex. "They are my friends, and I believe you’ve met before, right?"
"Yes, I know." Alex briefly said, looking at Renata and Danny again. "Thank you to both of you for taking care of my wife. She talks a lot about you both..."
Renata still struggled to process the shock of learning that her best friend had married Alexander Graystone.
Danny nodded and smiled at Alex, but then turned to Aurora, his gaze revealing a questioning look.
...
Aurora followed Alex to the door, but Renata finally managed to speak before they walked too far.
"Aurora, hold on. Can we chat? Just for a minute? Alex, please... I must talk to her. It’s important." Renata pleaded.
Noticing Renata’s earnest plea, Aurora found it hard to say no. She turned to Alex and asked, "Can you hold on for five minutes?"
Alex didn’t rush to answer her; instead, he placed his hand on her cheek and stroked it gently as if he intentionally wanted to show PDA to Renata and Danny.
"Alright, take your time. I will wait in the car," he said gently before he left.
