Chapter 146: Hidden Message

After Aurora and the others left for lunch, Patrick rushed to Alex’s office on the sixtieth floor.

Something has troubled him since he received a strange encrypted code in his backend system a few hours ago.

Patrick is one of those people who can’t stop until he figures something out, and this absurd code makes him stressed.

After trying to decipher the code so many times, he finally succeeded.

But he found the hidden message odd: "Do you believe in rebirth? Just like in typical Eastern films or dramas? Share your thoughts!"

He made great efforts to trace the sender, but his head feels like it’s about to explode despite his hard work.

The biggest question now weighs on his mind: "Why did that person suddenly send him a hidden message like that? What is the meaning of those questions?"

Does he believe in rebirth? Of course, he doesn’t believe in it. That’s just a fantasy story.

What confused him even more, was why that encrypted code with those silly hidden messages had reached him.

Who the heck sent that? Is someone trying to mess with his system by sending him this warning?

Patrick has many thoughts swirling in his mind, and he needs to talk to Alex about them. In addition to being the boss, Alex is also skilled at coding.

However, Alex has never been involved with Stardust Technology. He always found coding boring, so he focused exclusively on growing the group rather than concentrating only on technology.

Perhaps Alex could help him trace the code’s sender. This is why Patrick rushed to meet Alex.

...

As soon as Patrick heard Alex’s voice inviting him in, he entered the room immediately.

Alex was so immersed in the mountain of files on his desk that he didn’t notice Patrick walk into the room, wearing a frown.

"Hi Alex, I need you to check on something!" Patrick said, bringing his laptop over to Alex’s desk.

"I’m right in the middle of something here, Patrick," Alex replied, keeping his gaze fixed on the file he signed. "Could you please wait in the seating area? I’ll be done shortly..."

Patrick sighed deeply as he grabbed his laptop once more. He could see how serious Alex was at that moment. However, he didn’t leave his place right away; instead, he waited for him by his desk.

After waiting a bit longer and noticing that Alex seemed to forget him, an idea popped into his head.

His upper lip curled into a subtle smile. "Do you want to know about your wife?" he inquired.

Patrick knew that only Aurora could capture Alex’s interest right now. He clearly succeeded in diverting Alex’s attention, as Alex was now looking at him with a frown.

"What happened to my wife?" Alex inquired calmly, yet his eyes revealed concern, which pleased Patrick.

"Come, I will tell you about her," Patrick said, satisfied to see Alex finally leave his desk and join him in the seating area.

"I saw her near the elevator. She appears to take lunch breaks with her friends. Did you forget to invite her to lunch?" Patrick asked.

Seeing Alex’s shocked expression made Patrick chuckle softly. He added with a playful tone, "Man, you are such a terrible husband. How could you ignore her?"

Alex vented his frustration while taking his phone from his pocket, saying, "Damn! I was too busy with that pile of folders. I really hate Jimmy; he gave me so many papers to sign!"

Receiving a text message from Aurora in a communication app made him feel guilty.

"Alex, I’m going to have lunch with Josh and David."

"I know you’re quite busy, but please don’t forget to take a break for lunch! You’re still a human and not the super one. I’ll call you later when I’m back in my office."

Alex took a deep breath and gently set his cell phone on the table. He looked over at Patrick with curiosity. "Why are you here?" he asked.

Patrick’s joyful smile abruptly faded, giving way to a concerned expression.

"Alex, someone might be trying to test our firewall system. This person has enough skill to pass the wall and send me an encrypted message." He explained, but his words only left Alex feeling a bit confused.

"What do you mean?" Alex inquired.

Patrick didn’t respond immediately; instead, he opened his laptop. His fingers flew across the keyboard for several more seconds before he turned the screen towards Alex.

"Here, you need to see this..." Patrick said, showing Alex the code without revealing the hidden message he had figured out. He just wanted to test Alex’s ability.

As Alex leaned closer to better view the laptop screen, he lifted his head and gazed at Patrick curiously. He asked, "Let me guess. You want me to decrypt this for you?"

"Yes!"

"What the heck, Patrick Wallace? I’m surprised you’d ask me to do that for you! You can’t do that?" Alex stared at him in disbelief.

Patrick was speechless. He hid his irritation, then smiled and said, "I can. But, I need you to do it, to test your ability."

Alex chuckled and set the laptop on his lap. "You’re hilarious! Why waste my time on something like this?" he remarked, his finger dancing quickly across the keyboard.

In just a few moments, he had already opened the encrypted code.

"All set!" He grinned and spotted Patrick. "I just need five minutes. How long did it take you to solve this?"

"Fifteen!"

"You’re really slow! You should work on improving your skills." Alex shook his head and placed the laptop back on the coffee table.

Patrick took no offense at Alex’s teasing; he knew Alex was superior to him.

Furthermore, he had come to inquire about the hidden message and asked him to identify its sender.

"Did you see the hidden message?" Patrick inquired calmly.

Alex looked back at the laptop screen. "Do you believe in rebirth? Just like in typical Eastern films or dramas? Share your thoughts!" he read loudly.

Patrick remained silent, merely shrugging his shoulders.

"Who’s teasing you? What made them send such a silly message?" Alex chuckled.

"That’s the issue. I’ve tried to locate that individual, but I’m unable to. Whoever they are, they possess skills that surpass mine because I can’t identify the sender." Patrick genuinely answered.
