Rebirth as The Billionaire's Seventh Wife-Chapter 145: He Looks More Human
Chapter 145: He Looks More Human
The kiss was brief and gentle, yet it was enough to warm Aurora’s cheeks. She gasped in excitement as her heart jumped a beat.
Then, she looked at him in astonishment and disbelief that he dared to kiss her in the elevator, especially with Josh present.
She wanted to say something to express her thoughts, but all her words were stuck in her throat for some unknown reason.
A subtle smile appeared on Alex’s lips as he gazed into her stunning, fluttering eyes fixed on him. He gently said, "Aurora, you can leave now, or I will change my m—"
Without letting Alex complete his words, Aurora rushed out of the elevator.
However, upon stepping out of the elevator, she saw Josh waiting for her, his gaze teasing.
She averted her eyes, trying to avoid Josh’s playful smile as they walked to their office.
"I can’t believe Boss Alex shows affection so boldly before other people..." Josh’s soft voice rang in her ears, enough to make her embarrassed return.
Still, she couldn’t ask him to stop.
"This is a new side of him. I’m glad he has changed so much since marrying you, Aurora. You make him look more human..." Josh added, making her shy yet happy to receive his heartfelt compliment.
Aurora knows for sure what Josh means. All this time, Alex appeared like a robot and a narcissist who only loved himself and his work. He only saw his own company above everything. He didn’t even care about his own family.
In her previous life, Aurora never felt hopeful or imagined liking him because she did not find that aspect of him appealing. Only recently, following her death, he showed his humanity.
For the first time, she unexpectedly witnessed him cry in the hospital; his grief over her death deeply moved her.
How much he has changed recently shocked and scared her. Still, she found it enjoyable. She likes it this way. Alex could show her a side she had never seen before.
"Thank you, Josh!" Aurora said to him as they walked into their office.
...
"Good morning!" David’s unexpected voice caught Aurora and Josh off guard.
They were both surprised to find David already sitting behind his computer. He paused briefly to greet them before returning to his work on the computer.
"David, did you really stay here all night?" Aurora asked, her surprise mixed with concern. Is this man working late because he is having trouble finishing the task Patrick gave him?
She glanced at her watch to check the time and was stunned to realize it was too early for David to start his job—it was only nine o’clock.
David chuckled, his face still on the screen before him. "Nah! Did you even notice my clothes?" he asked playfully.
Aurora smiled and walked to her desk.
"Good luck, David! If you need my help, say so..." she said, turning on her computer.
Aurora occupied herself with Patrick’s task and, of course, her own affairs for a few hours.
She managed her underground business, taking orders from various large corporations and individuals to investigate their business or political rivals.
Aurora was so immersed in her work that she didn’t notice that David could finally smile broadly when he successfully solved Patrick’s advanced assignment.
She also ignored Josh, who was busy playing a game on the PlayStation.
However, she became distracted when a text message from Renata popped up in her inbox.
"Aurora, you’ve begun your internship at Stardust? I’m at the restaurant waiting for you for lunch or dinner! Can you stop by today?"
’Should I visit Rena...?’ Aurora whispered while glancing at her watch. It was thirty minutes before lunch. freewebnøvel.coɱ
Before she could answer, Aurora ensured Alex wasn’t looking for her.
She smiled when she found nothing. As she had anticipated, Alex must be overwhelmed with work following his business trip.
Without hesitation, she replied to Renata, "I will come for lunch, sister. See you!"
...
When they left the office for lunch, Patrick emerged from his office.
Patrick was surprised to see them. "Going to lunch?" he asked, following them toward the elevator.
Aurora briefly glanced at him. "Yes, boss. How about you?"
"Not yet! I’m on a diet..." Patrick answered calmly, but he narrowed his eyes when he saw Josh holding a smile. "Are you guys going to eat at the cafeteria?" he asked again.
"No. We are going to a nearby restaurant!" Aurora answered while following Josh and David as they walked into the elevator. She waved her hand to Patrick, who still wanted to speak to them.
Taking the staff elevator to the lobby takes time because it has to stop a few times, and several people join them.
Aurora focused on messaging Renata to share her current location. Once she got the text through, David leaned in and asked, "Aurora, where are we going?"
He was curious because Aurora did not mention where they would go for lunch; she merely asked him to follow them.
"You’ll see!" Aurora replied tersely, not taking the time to explain.
"It must be a nearby restaurant that you didn’t even want us to use a car..." David said as if he were talking to himself because neither Aurora nor Josh responded. He could only chuckle and follow them as they walked across the lobby toward the main entrance.
They had not yet passed the main entrance when Max’s voice came from behind, stopping them.
Max flashed a quick smile at Aurora before turning his attention to David. "Are you guys going for lunch?" he inquired casually while standing beside him.
"Yes," David answered as he strolled to follow Aurora and Josh, who had already moved ahead at a quick pace.
"Can I join you guys?"
"Don’t ask me; ask Aurora instead. I was only following her, and I had no idea where we were headed," David smiled at Max.
Max stared at Aurora, only able to see her back as she walked a few steps away. "Aurora, may I?" he asked.
Aurora sighed silently. She has no reason to refuse him, right?
"Of course, Max!" she replied, even though she could sense Josh’s annoyance.
