Rebirth as The Billionaire's Seventh Wife-Chapter 118: Are You In Love With Me?
Chapter 118: Are You In Love With Me?
Alex’s lips formed a faint smile as he gazed at her silently.
"Alex, I received so many gifts from your parents over there..." Aurora pointed at the suitcase. "Yet, I feel that I don’t deserve any of them." She turned her gaze to him.
Her words were enough to make Alex’s smile fade completely.
’Why did she think she didn’t deserve the wedding gift?’ This question filled his mind.
"Why?" he asked.
Aurora’s hands slowly clenched tightly, worried that her words might offend Alex. However, she needed to tell him this, even though it could upset him.
"Though I haven’t opened them. Because all those gifts must hold great value, besides, you understand that our marriage was anything but a contract marriage. How could I accept those gifts? I simply can’t."
After she finished expressing her thoughts, her anxiety faded gradually. She felt relieved to see Alex, who looked calm and composed.
However, her calmness quickly faded when Alex suddenly rose from his seat and approached the suitcase. He pulled it back to his seat before sitting down again.
He took his time before speaking; instead, he gazed at her, taking in her beauty and nervousness.
"Aurora, listen, this gift is yours. My family gave it to you, and you can’t turn it down with such a weak reason."
"But Alex..." Her words traill off as she noticed him lifting his hand to gently signal her to pause.
Alex smirked fondly at her pouting cherry lips; she seemed so adorable, igniting his strong desire to kiss her lips. Nevertheless, he quickly brushed the thought aside and shifted his focus to her eyes.
He pleaded calmly, though his heart tightened as he voiced his thoughts, "Aurora, can you stop thinking our marriage is merely because of a contract?"
Alex feels a bit frustrated. He recalls setting the boundaries in their marriage, yet now he finds himself on the verge of crossing them.
"Isn’t that just how it is?" She wanted to question him like that, but her words betrayed her. No words escaped her lips; she only stared at him silently, unsure how to respond.
"How often do I need to bring this up? Our marriage is real. We are wed under the laws of this country. You are my lawful spouse, Aurora Spencer..." He spoke slowly and clearly.
"But this is fake, Alex. There is no romance! How can it be called a marriage?" She wanted to respond like that, but, of course, all those sentences just circled in her mind, leaving her frustrated.
After a brief pause with no reply, he continued, "Although there is no romance between us, we can give it a try if you’re up for it. I wouldn’t mind either..."
Aurora was utterly taken aback when she heard his words.
’What just happened? Did I actually hear that? Is this a joke, or is it the sentence I hoped for?’ She was shocked, her eyes widening as she looked at him.
Unable to hold back her curiosity, she asked, "Alex, could you repeat what you mentioned earlier?"
Alex frowned, perplexed. "Which one? I spoke many sentences, Aurora."
Aurora tightened her fists, hesitating as she wondered if she had misheard; otherwise, she would surely feel embarrassed once more if she was indeed mistaken.
But how can she remain calm if that sentence is spinning in her mind right now?
"Aurora, could you please stop holding everything in? Just tell me what you want so I can understand. I wish I could read your mind, but I don’t have such an ability. I’m not a mind reader..." Alex said, feeling helpless, while Aurora nearly laughed at his response.
’Wow, this guy. His dry humor truly hit me! At times, anyway,’ she thought.
Aurora quietly cleared her throat before asking him about her confusion. "Alex, are you in love with me?"
"Cough! Cough!" Alex’s face flushed red instantly, stunned by the audacity of her words.
Without hesitation, Aurora jumped from her seat and rushed to the corner to get some water for him.
Returning with a glass of water, she worriedly offered, "Alex, please, have a glass of water." She stood in place, watching him with concern as he finished the water. frёeweɓηovel.coɱ
’Is he falling for me? That’s why he’s shocked?’ Aurora was too busy to find the answer and truly wanted to hear from him.
Moreover, being deeply immersed in her thoughts, Aurora did not realize that Alex was currently looking at her.
"Aurora? You can sit down now," he said, holding her hand to get her attention.
He had called her many times earlier, but this girl didn’t even flinch; she appeared overwhelmed by her shock.
Aurora was taken aback as she watched his hand brush against hers. She withdrew her hand and returned to the corner to set down the empty glass while trying to steady her thoughts and heartbeat.
"Thank you for the water, Aurora. There’s no need to bring me more; I’m fine. You can join me here..." Alex said calmly, observing her nervousness.
After she returned to her seat, he smiled at her and said, "You’ve asked me whether I am in love with you, right?"
Aurora was tense and curious, eager to hear his answer. She nodded slightly while trying to keep her icy hands steady.
Alex locked eyes with her, "Unfortunately, not. I’m not in love with you," he said softly, yet clearly enough for Aurora to grasp his words.
A hint of disappointment flickered inside her, yet she made an effort to hide it, reluctant to let it reflect in her eyes.
’Hell, Rory! You are so dead now. How could you assume he is in love with you?’ Aurora could only vent her frustration in her mind. She feels like digging a hole and jumping in, too embarrassed by this situation.
"But that’s how I feel NOW. Will that feeling never change, or will I fall in love with you someday? I have no idea what the future will hold for me. So, let’s wait and see."
His words immediately turned Aurora’s disappointment into shock.
