Chapter 115: Should I Make This Marriage Last?

Alex grabbed his cell phone and called Alvin to prepare his car.

He plans to visit Aurora’s grave to clarify something. It has been bothering him lately.

When Alex arrived on the first floor, he saw Martin greet him, but continued to make his way to the main entrance.

"Master, are you going out?" Martin asked, following him to the entrance. freēwēbηovel.c૦m

"Yes!"

Martin was surprised to hear that. He knew his master didn’t have plans to go outside the whole day today, but why did he look so rushed to go? This made him curious and worried.

"Sir, how about dinner? Will you have dinner at home?"

Caught off guard by Martin’s question, Alex hesitated to reply, glancing at his watch before nodding.

"I will return just in time for dinner. Please set it up for my wife and me." Alex answered. He didn’t plan to go out, but he needed to express his thoughts, or he would end up scaring Aurora.

"Yes, sir..." Martin said, slightly bowing and waiting for him in silence.

Before long, Alvin arrives in Alex’s car. He quickly exits and asks Alex, "Sir, are you sure you don’t want me to drive for you?"

Alex simply responded with, "Hmm, no need. Just make sure you notice my guard."

"I already noticed them, sir."

Alex nods. Without wasting a second, he speeds down the road toward Pine Hills.

...

As Alex arrives at the Graystone private cemetery, his heart remains just as heavy as when he departed from home.

With every step he takes to Aurora’s grave, he feels his heart ache for something he doesn’t understand.

Standing before Aurora’s grave, his eyes are fixed on her name. He is shocked to see her small picture there.

"Hi there..." A faint smile graced his lips. "It seems your dad is visiting you today?" He noticed a fresh flower as he walked closer and touched the picture.

"I’m sorry I haven’t visited you yesterday, Rory. I needed to hurry to Opal City..." Alex paused, taking a deep breath before continuing. "You still remember my wife, right? And how suspicious I feel about her?"

Even though the grave didn’t reply, only a gentle breeze blew, he didn’t mind. He continued to chat to himself while standing by the grave.

"You know what, Rory, that woman really confuses me! At first, I was frustrated with her simply because she had your name. Yet, as each day passes, she increasingly reminds me of you. Her actions, speech, and everything about her bring you to mind."

"Of course, I’m getting more annoyed with her. I even try to avoid her. I sleep in the office, but she drives me crazy every day. Why? Why am I like this, Rory? Please tell me!"

Alex’s eyes trembled as he gazed at Aurora’s name engraved on the tombstone. The sight of her picture unleashed a storm within him. He averted his gaze to regain control over his emotions, but it wasn’t easy.

Looking at the horizon, he noticed the sky changing color; night was approaching.

However, he remained in place. He took a gold cigarette case holder from his pocket and slipped one cigarette between his lips.

When he wanted to light the cigarette, his hand hesitated. Instantly, Aurora Spencer’s sentence filled his mind.

"Alex, would you consider stopping smoking? I read somewhere that nicotine could shorten your life..."

He rubbed his eyebrow, glancing at Aurora’s name with a slight smile. Pulling the unlit cigarette from his lips, he placed it back into the golden case.

"And you know what, Rory? You can call me crazy; I don’t care. But today, I am utterly convinced that the girl is your reincarnation."

Alex shook his head after hearing his absurd words.

"Do you remember when I told you I’m smoking again, hoping you’d show up in my dreams to scold me? You’ve come back, but not in my dreams; you scold me through her instead..."

A soft laugh slipped from Alex’s lips.

"She said, ’Nicotine could kill me!’ That’s you, isn’t it? You constantly scold me like that, Rory! She is you..."

Silence lingers.

He let out another heavy sigh. Alex realized he was behaving like a lunatic, but he was unconcerned. All he needed was to share his thoughts with her, as doing so always relieved him.

And now, he feels that way once more, better.

"Rory, do you think I should share my feelings with that girl? I recall you saying it would make you happy to see me marry one final time and avoid divorce..."

He stood with his hands in his trouser pockets, gazing at her picture. After a moment, he added, "Should I try to accept her? Should I make this marriage last?"

...

At Green Hills.

Aurora walked anxiously around her room, nervously biting her thumb.

It had only been a few minutes since Alex embraced her, yet her heart remained unsteady. His body’s unique scent and warmth lingered in her mind, leaving her frantic, with a hint of undeniable excitement.

Her heart raced, filling her with worry; she feared she might end up in the emergency room if this continued.

"Alexander Graystone, what is going on? Why did you make me this way? Why did you start filling me with hope when I have been trying to banish it from my mind and heart?"

Expressing all her thoughts did not calm her; instead, it made her mind even more anxious.

She inhaled deeply again and exhaled.

Her steps halted at the window at the end of the room, her gaze fixed on the gradually changing color of the sky.

"God, what should I do? Should I reveal who I am inside, however crazy that sounds?"

Silence!

All she could hear was her breathing and the increasing rhythm of her heartbeat.

After some time, a concerned smile crossed her face as she murmured, "I should have done it sooner. Yes, I should have been honest with him. Whether he believes me or not, thinking me crazy or not, that’s another matter!"

Aurora pursed her lips, nodding deliberately as she decided to be truthful with him.
