Chapter 107: His Unusual Attitude Makes Her Confused

Unable to contain her curiosity, Aurora finally asked, "Alex, are we going to your office?"

"Hmm, it’s Monday. I have something important to do," Alex replied, then turned his attention back to his iPad as if he didn’t want to continue the conversation even for another second.

Nevertheless, Aurora still felt restless. Something is still bugging her mind.

She hesitantly asked once more, "Can I go straight home without stopping by your office? I really don’t want anyone to see us walking together, and neither do you," she pleaded and reasoned earnestly.

Alex frowned as he looked at her.

"Oh. Okay. You may be right. Come to think of it, I initially didn’t intend to ask you to stop by. Anyway, if you wish to go straight home, my driver will take you home directly after dropping me off at the office."

’What the...’ Aurora muttered in frustration. Alex’s answer instantly embarrassed her, her cheeks heating up as she realized her mistake.

Once more, she looked out the window, deliberately ignoring him. But soon after, Alex ended the quietness.

"Aurora, I assure you that no one will see you in and out of my office whenever you come to it. I have a private entry and elevator, and it’s well obscured from public access."

Alex paused to let her look at him before continuing, "So, any time you change your mind, you can come to my office and wait for me in my penthouse upstairs, and then we can head home together..." he calmly suggested.

Even though his offer is really tempting, she remains firm in her choice. She wants to return home because she has an important task waiting for her, following up on the project she accepted from Joe.

"I wish I could, but this wig is uncomfortable. I didn’t like wearing it..." She quickly lied and rejected his offer.

A frown gradually forms on his forehead as he listens to her. "Sorry, I completely forgot about that. Alright, you can head home first. I’ll bring my private physician to examine your injury when I get home."

Aurora was surprised.

Although she wanted to assure him that it wasn’t necessary and that she would be fine, the words failed to leave her lips. She gives a gentle nod and a warm smile at his kind offer to have his private physician examine her injury.

As she gently turns her gaze away, Aurora finds herself lost in thoughts about Alex’s unusual attitude. Had she never met him daily in her previous life, she might have been charmed by his sweetness and gentleness.

...

Soon after, the car stopped in the private underground lobby of the building.

After Alex exited the vehicle, Alvin did not accompany him to the building. Instead, he re-entered the car and returned, sitting beside the driver.

Aurora was taken aback. She asked, "Are you going home too, Alvin?"

Alvin offered her a polite smile.

"Ma’am, your husband is worried about you; he asked me to ensure you will be home safely before I head back," he clarified, then directed the chauffeur to keep driving.

Aurora said nothing; she remained lost in her deep thoughts. Alex’s attitude since this morning has completely confused her. He appears sweet and warm when speaking to her, even when his family is not around.

It confuses her about how to act around him.

What worries her the most is that she fears her thoughts will be wrong again, just like before, when she thought Alex would ask her to stop by his office. But she was mistaken—he only offered her that idea after she reminded him about it. And now, he asks Alvin to accompany her back home.

Aurora ponders for a moment before something crosses her mind.

Hurriedly, she directed her gaze back to Alvin. "Can I ask you something, Alvin?" she asked.

"Absolutely, ma’am..." Alvin glanced at her, curiosity glinting in his eyes.

"I haven’t seen Josh since yesterday. Do you know where he is?" she asked, concerned that Alex might have sent Josh on an assignment to a remote location, like one of his oil rigs, or perhaps he had been dispatched to climb Mount Everest without the right gear.

"Didn’t your husband tell you anything about it?" Alvin asked, taken aback, causing Aurora to wish she hadn’t asked.

Yet Aurora felt she couldn’t step back. "I forgot to ask him," she responds randomly.

"Josh remained in Opal City, at least for now. He was assigned to handle matters related to your uncle and his gangsters. He’ll be there for a few days before returning to guard you again."

Aurora felt an immediate sense of relief upon hearing Alvin’s explanation. None of the worst possibilities that she had considered could have befallen Josh actually occurred.

However, understanding what Josh did reminded Aurora of her truly evil family.

She quickly pulled out her cell phone to text Josh, "Sorry to make you busy there. Any update on the case progressing there?"

...

Aurora only received a reply from Josh when she got home. She read his text as she entered the house.

"You contacted me at the right time. Is it a good time for me to call, ma’am? I have something important to discuss with you."

A sudden tightness gripped her heart upon reading Josh’s text, and as worry surrounded her, she typed her reply, "Sure!"

However, footsteps were heard from the back room before she could send the message. Tina’s face looked excited and happy as she prepared to greet her.

"Young Madam, you’re finally back home. How was the birthday party? Is Mr. Alex’s family fond of you? I bet they did. Did you both finally sleep in the same room? Woah... It must be..." Tina’s words trailed off as Aurora interrupted her.

"Aunty, we will talk about this later." She felt a headache coming on as she listened to Tina, who sounded like a rapper.

All Tina’s questions revolved around issues she wanted to avoid, particularly what had happened with Alex. Just thinking about it was enough to make her blood rush in her veins.

"Oh, what happened, young madam? Are you alright?" Tina asked worriedly when she saw Aurora’s face darken.

"Yes, I felt my head was about to explode. I need to hurry to my room to take off this wig. It’s suffocating me!" she replied casually while going up the stairs.

"Do you need my help, young madam?"

"No, I’ll call you if I need anything..." she replied, hurrying to her room. She had to speak with Josh.
