Re-Overlord: I Can Acquire Anything!-Chapter 92: A Promise
Chapter 92: A Promise
As Roxanne and Isadora listened to the story about Orca and Earth, they were in awe.
They couldn’t believe such a place existed—one that allowed people to travel between worlds by taking over another’s body.
It was both fascinating and deeply unsettling. The idea of possessing another’s body felt cruel, especially if it meant the person being taken over had to die.
Could it be that the predecessor always died before the transmigration?
Unlikely. When Aluna and Daisy arrived, their predecessors were still healthy and alive. That meant the transmigrations themselves were killing the originals. The thought was disturbing.
But then the story shifted to the tragic tale of the Vance family—how they were betrayed, and how Igarjs watched helplessly as his family was slaughtered before his eyes.
Tears welled up in Roxanne and Isadora’s eyes.
They imagined themselves in his place. The loss, the sorrow, the despair of watching loved ones vanish while being powerless to stop it. Crippled, grieving, and forced to spend the rest of his life drowning in regret and loneliness.
What had he done to deserve such a cruel fate?
His family had been unrecognized heroes, fighting to restore Earth’s sovereignty from a tyrannical emperor.
They weren’t traitors. They were true heroes who never received the recognition they deserved.
Instead, they were branded as traitors by the very people they fought to protect. To the world, they were nothing more than ungrateful bastards.
It was hard to imagine such kind and selfless people ever existed. But they had. They were real.
"Your world is sadder than ours, son. Maybe true paradise can never exist," Roxanne said quietly after the story ended.
Igaris nodded. "Yes. Paradise is just a myth that spread so people can give excuse about they aren’t the ones turning their paradise into hell. But the truth is, it’s in our hands, not God’s."
Roxanne fell silent, struck by the weight of his words.
He was right.
They had turned their paradise into a hell.
"So, what will you do now? You said you have only 5 days left before you leave, right?"
From the shift in her tone, Igaris sensed that Roxanne had finally accepted the truth—and perhaps, even forgiven him, if only partly.
Isadora, however, looked shaken, her small frame trembling as she clung to him.
"W-Wait! Brother’s not going anywhere! I won’t let him!" she cried, clutching his shirt tighter.
Igaris gently patted her head. "I promise I’ll be back, little sister. I may not be the same brother you once knew... but I’ve accepted you as my family. And before I go, I’ll help you find your dad." His voice held both conviction and gentleness—his words meant for Isadora, but also in answer to Roxanne’s question.
Roxanne was stunned. He was a stranger now, he had no obligation to help them. And yet, he had made this promise.
"Really?" Isadora tilted her head, eyes wide with fragile hope. "Will you always be my brother?"
"Yes. It’s a promise."
"Pinky promise?"
"Pinky promise."
Igaris knew that Isadora’s affection for him, even after knowing the truth, was likely rooted in her innocence and inability to grasp the full meaning of what had happened.
She couldn’t accept that her real brother was gone, replaced by someone else entirely.
So she convinced herself that he wasn’t truly dead. It was easier that way—easier than facing the grief.
Maybe, when she grew up, she would understand. And when that day came, she might no longer speak to him.
She might even come to hate him.
But for now, he had to do what a brother had promised.
Later, Roxanne and Igaris sat together, quietly discussing their plan to infiltrate the Calamity House in the Capital City—Oracle.
She handed him a detailed map of the prison, along with information on secret routes that no one else knew about.
Even with this knowledge, the mission would be incredibly difficult.
Igaris needed to prepare himself by acquiring a variety of abilities from his subordinates.
From Shadow Reaper, he took:
[ Kinetic Redirection ] – The power to absorb incoming physical attacks, storing their energy and releasing it in a devastating counterstrike.
From the Mountain King, he gained [ Earth Manipulation ] but something more profound happened.
He blessed the Mountain King with the name "Mountain", and in response, the being evolved into a higher lifeform: the Earth Spirit King.
Igaris hadn’t completely stolen his abilities. Instead, Mountain lost Earth Manipulation but gained a more powerful evolved version:
[ Avatar of Gaia ] – It allowed everything Earth Manipulation could do, but with enhanced control over the terrain, larger influence over the battlefield, and a powerful transmutation ability—turning mud into iron, gold, steel, and more.
Still, Igaris was content with the base Earth Manipulation ability. It was enough for what he needed.
He could literally use Earth Manipulation to burrow into the ground effortlessly, which was an ideal method for infiltrating House Calamity.
But he knew it wouldn’t be that simple.
The Calamity House was no ordinary fortress. It likely had advanced radar systems and energy-sequence tracers that could detect even the slightest abnormal movement beneath the surface.
To bypass such security, he needed more than just brute power or elemental stealth.
He needed true invisibility. Like a stealth ability that left no trace. Something akin to a shadow. Or a ghost.
To acquire it, Igaris turned to the Undead Legion.
He began experimenting, naming them one by one. With each name given, the undead evolved—unlocking new, unpredictable abilities that could fill the gaps in his arsenal.
These undead were mostly low-ranked, so naming a hundred of them wasn’t impossible for someone like Igaris. The process required time and precision, but not power beyond his means.
And so, hidden deep in the veil of shadows and darkness, the experiment began.
An army of the forgotten would become the key to breaking into the most guarded place in Oracle.
And the result:
[ Umbral Veil ]– Cloaks the user in shadows, becoming invisible in dim light.
[ Phantom Shift ] – User become untouchable and invisible for a short duration; can phase through attacks.
