My Wife and I Became Sages in Another World-Chapter 63: Vespera’s Magical Ponchos
Chapter 63: Vespera’s Magical Ponchos
While drinking tea with the king and queen, we talked about all of our experiences for the past year.
They have heard most of the stories from the letters that Melina sent constantly, but they still wanted to listen to us tell them.
The 3rd princess, Alexandra, seemed the most excited whenever we talked about hunting monsters and showed her interest in being like her sister when she grew up.
She was only ten years old, but she was already training her magic with a tutor, and the mage said that she had great potential.
Melina patted her sister on the head and said that she would train her when she turned 14, which made me believe that I was probably going to have to help with that. Not that I had a problem with it, though.
Later, the king told us to show him our new adventurers cards and looked surprised that we were given the Gold rank as soon as we registered.
We told him what happened at the guild and how Lucia didn’t want to give us a lower rank, to which he agreed with her, saying that if we had shown so much power, it was only natural to provide us with a high rank.
When we told him that we were thinking of going to Port Town Blue first, his expression turned more serious.
Apparently, that area of the kingdom had been getting an infestation of monsters for the past month, and had to deploy two knight orders to go deal with the problem.
Additionally, the villagers had seen an S-ranked monster close to the city’s pier, so merchants and fishermen avoided the zone.
Port Town Blue was the main port town of the kingdom, where most of the goods from other countries across the ocean arrived.
It was also the primary place where fishermen worked and exported their products to other cities, and the halt of imported goods was starting to take effect in the other towns.
However, Port Town Blue was suffering the most, as the roads leading there were infested by monsters, making it even harder for the capital to send aid and resources to the residents.
"In other words... The city is basically surrounded by monsters..." I said as the king finished his explanation.
The king nodded. "If we could at least secure one road to the city, we would be able to help them and deal with the sea monster after..."
Melina turned her head and looked at me with a determined smile.
I knew exactly what she wanted to say, and I was on board with the idea, so I just nodded to her.
"Father, we will go help!" she exclaimed, surprising her parents.
However, they quickly laughed it off, saying they knew she would say that and that a master hunter would undoubtedly be of help to the knights.
We also told him about our encounter with Dr. Lane and the agreement that we discussed.
The king looked exasperated and, placing his palm on his face with embarrassment, told me that Lane had been pestering him about wanting to meet me for an entire year.
However, the king never gave him any information about me other than what everyone already knew, which was that I lived in End Forest.
Now that Reinar was a master alchemist and could teach others, I told them it would be fine to allow the capital’s alchemist to leave for a few months, maybe a year, to refine their skills.
After our talk, we were shown to our guest room in the castle, where we would spend the night.
While I was sleeping, I woke up for a moment in a daze and saw that Vespera had a large piece of cloth in her hands.
It looked like she was using her master weaver skill to make something, but everything was blurry because I was sleepy, so I just kept slumbering.
The next morning, we said our goodbyes to the royal family and met with Dr. Lane, who was waiting right outside the castle gates with a group of four other alchemists.
They were all carrying their luggage and had uncertainty written all over their faces, but Reinar tried to convince them that it wouldn’t be as bad as they thought.
With the help of Vespera and Melina, we teleported everyone back to End Town, appearing right outside the gates.
The guards were surprised seeing us, asking how come we were back after one day, so I explained that we just needed to give someone a ride and would be leaving again.
While we drank an MP potion, we asked Gina and Carli to stay with Reinar and the alchemists.
Reinar was pretty strong, but it wasn’t guaranteed that he could help everyone if danger suddenly rose in the forest.
They were reluctant at first since, technically, Carli was the appointed maid of the princess, and Gina was now my officially appointed maid by the king.
While I was highly thankful to them for all their work, there was simply no need for them to accompany us when Reinar and the alchemists needed help.
We both had Yoru and Vespera with us, which eased the maids’ minds as they knew how powerful my familiars were.
After a bit of back and forth, we promised we would come back to visit End Town in a few months.
I also had a small delivery tablet with me, so I could send letters to my house from time to time and update them on our condition.
The maids understood and guided Reinar and the alchemists to my home, where they would be staying, at least while they were in town.
("If they are like Reinar, they’ll enjoy working in the tree house much more...") I thought as we left End Town and teleported to the city of Speranza.
Speranza was the closest city to Port Town Blue if we left from the north gate. I had never been around those parts, and I was feeling curious as to what type of monsters would be there.
We stayed in Speranza for a few hours to eat and recover our MP before going on our way.
We couldn’t use teleport since we had never been there before. Even though the princess did visit when she was a baby, she had no recollection of the place, so she couldn’t teleport there.
From what we heard, it would be around five days of walking to get there.
The first day was pretty peaceful. After we left Speranza, we just walked for hours without seeing a single monster or bandit.
The roads to Port Town Blue were paved with smooth rocks, making our trip a little more comfortable.
Once the sun started to come down, we built a small home on the side, had Vespera make some beds, and slept quite nicely before continuing the next day.
On the second day, after we took down the house we built with earth magic, Vespera told us she had a gift for me and Melina. Pulling out a couple of ponchos that she had weaved herself.
Seeing the fabric reminded me of the night I saw her making something with her skill, but I never had the opportunity to ask her because I simply forgot.
The ponchos looked of outstanding quality. The fabric was soft but durable, and the colors looked good. However, she explained that it was more than a poncho.
She had been infusing magic into the fabric as she worked on them and even placed magical enchantments that could help us.
She made a "gravity enchantment," now that she knew how to use that type of magic, thanks to me, and told us that now we just needed to use air magic while wearing the poncho, and we would be able to fly.
Before, I managed to fly for a little using magic by combining gravity magic to make my body lighter and air magic to propel myself. However, it proved to be quite challenging to do in the middle of a fight where you also needed to attack.
With the poncho, I just had to worry about accelerating, which was the easiest part.
She also added a "super endurance enchantment" that could protect us against magical and physical attacks.
("How did she even do that!?") I pondered as I didn’t know such an enchantment existed, but I supposed I never even tried.
There was an "anti-poison" enchantment, which logically made us immune to all poisons, as Vespera was a master of that magic already.
She also infused some of the crystal gravel that Reinar found in the forest, and it gave the fabric the same effect of environmental adaptability. This meant that we could wear that poncho in the middle of a snowstorm and feel quite warm.
We both thanked Vespera by giving her a hug, making her blush with embarrassment, which was somewhat of a rare sight.
("I can tell she worked really hard to make these...") I thought as we let her go off the group hug.
Wearing our new magical ponchos, we kept making our way toward Port Town Blue.
