My Wife and I Became Sages in Another World-Chapter 62: Registering as Adventurers
Chapter 62: Registering as Adventurers
Winter had finally ended, and the spring weather was slowly coming to our town when we decided it was time to register in the adventurers guild.
The town was running efficiently on its own, and it had the protections of the shadow dogs, the demon spiders, Ivy the fairy, the 4th knight’s order, and the adventurers that traveled all the way there.
Feeling confident, I thought it would be perfectly fine to leave town for a few months and see other places with the princess.
When we arrived at the guild, the clerk already knew who we were and greeted us kindly before pulling out a crystal ball and asking us to place our hands on it.
However, before Melina touched the crystal, a woman came from the room behind the clerk and said that we should go to the back office.
The woman was the same person that had arrived in our town a few years ago, inquiring about building the guild.
She was also the guild master, so she knew who I was since I was there when their permission got accepted by Jackson.
Her name was "Lucia," and she had dark hair and dark eyes with a little scar on her cheek. However, she didn’t look intimidating.
She asked us to go to her office as the crystal ball showed the person’s information, no matter if they tried hiding it with a spell.
For whatever reason, she had already deduced that we didn’t want all of our information out to the public, as she could tell we were not "normal."
("Well, I didn’t expect less from a guild master...") I thought before saying thanking her for her secrecy.
"Now, place your hands on the crystal one by one," Lucia said.
The princess went first, making the crystal glow intensely as a crack appeared, making her retract her hand quickly.
"S-sorry!" she said, looking at the cracked crystal ball.
"It’s quite alright. We have a lot of these." said the guild master as she pulled out a new crystal ball for me.
Placing my hand on it, it began glowing just as intensely as it did with the princess. However, it completely shattered, leaving only a few crystal pieces behind.
"Uhh... My bad..." I said as I scratched the back of my head.
The guild master picked up one of the broken pieces from my crystal ball and the cracked one from the princess and said she would return.
After a few minutes, she returned with gold cards with our names inscribed.
"Gold is the highest rank I can give you guys as a start. Though, you’ll probably rise to the next one quickly." said the guild master as she let out a laugh and handed us our cards.
She explained to us that with the amount of power we had, she wouldn’t feel comfortable giving us a lower rank, and gold was the highest someone could get when registering.
The lowest to highest ranks were: Iron, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Mithril, Adamant, Platinum, Diamond, and Celestial.
She told us that only a few people in history had made it to the rank of Celestial, and depending on the difficulty of the requests we completed or the monsters we hunted, we could go up in ranks.
The guild master also explained that as Gold adventurers, we had two months to complete a request, or we could get demoted. Usually, lower-ranked adventurers had to complete requests the same week they registered.
Two months was a long time, and I didn’t think that we would spend that long without picking up on a request. However, we wanted to do a few other things first, and having two months to do them felt pretty good.
A week after our registration, my group was ready to depart from End Town for a while.
The villagers gathered around the city gates as they waved at us. It could have been better if we were leaving on a carriage, but we were about to teleport straight to the capital.
We gave our farewells, and Melina, Vespera, and I held onto the group and cast the teleportation spell, bringing us a few hundred meters away from the capital’s gates.
The guards at the gate immediately kneeled before the princess and Reinar as soon as they spotted us and welcomed her home.
As we made our way through the bustling streets, I noticed that everyone looked happier. It could have been me imagining things, but it sort of felt different from the last time I visited, in a good way.
Once we got closer to the castle gates, we noticed a dark-haired man leaving with his head down in defeat.
As he walked by us, he sniffed loudly and got closer to our group with a suspicious expression.
"Hey, you kids!" he exclaimed, walking closer toward us.
The man began sniffing the air around us like a dog, leaving me and everyone else in the group perplexed as to what the hell was happening.
"You boys smell like alchemy!" he yelled, then used his inspection spell on us without permission.
Luckily, all my information was hidden, so he couldn’t even see my name. However, Reinar wasn’t so careful.
To be fair, I did forget to teach them how to hide their information, but everyone knew who they were in their kingdom anyways, so I didn’t think there was much of a point.
"Hah, It is you!" said the man as he laughed, ignoring the fact that I had all my information hidden.
"Lord Reinar, please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Dr. Geralt Lane, and I’m an alchemist." said the man as he bowed politely.
I thought it was a little funny how the guy went from being an absolute weirdo to a very polite noble doctor, but then I remembered seeing his name somewhere before.
It was in End Town when I first started selling my potions. Dr. Lane was the one responsible for making the other healing potions that weren’t as effective as mine and were more expensive, too.
The doctor explained that mere minutes ago, he had an audience with the king and queen that he had requested.
Ever since my healing potions became a thing in the Sephyr Kingdom, his potions were not selling at all, even when he had reduced the price to be much lower than our version.
However, my potions weren’t the only ones being exported anymore. Reinar’s name was also imprinted on half of them.
"I’ve been looking for that ’Ichiro’ guy for a while, but the king won’t tell me anything about him!" said the doctor with frustration in his voice.
("I’ll have to thank the king when I see him for keeping the secret...") I thought as I smiled slightly.
"But you are making those potions too. Right, my Lord?" asked the man, placing his right hand on his chest.
"I-... Yeah, I’ve made some of them..." Reinar responded, a bit nervous.
The man kneeled with his forehead on the ground and pleaded with the young lord to teach him how to make those potions.
Reinar waved his hands with a surprised expression, telling the man to raise his head, and turned to look at me for a moment as if he was asking me for permission or something.
The thing is, I always wanted more alchemists to learn how to make the potions, and now that they were asking Reinar and not me, it seemed like the perfect opportunity.
I nodded at reinar confidently. He smiled and turned back to Dr. Lane.
"Alright, I’ll train you guys. However, we will have to go to End Forest!" exclaimed Reinar, making the doctor freeze with fear.
I definitely didn’t expect Reinar to say that, but he had a point.
Making those potions required more than just the ingredients. The alchemists had to have a good amount of MP, or else the brewing would always fail, and the best way to raise the magic power of a person was by casting spells.
Dr. Lane was initially reluctant, but when Reinar told him that it was the best way for him to learn, he accepted the conditions and said he would look for other interested alchemists.
They ended up scheduling a meeting for the next day, and the doctor went on his way to fetch his colleagues and get ready to go into the furthest and most dangerous forest in the kingdom.
("Well... That kinda worked out...") I thought.
Arriving at the castle, the guards kneeled for the princess and allowed everyone in the group to go in without any security check. I supposed it was to show that the royal family trusted everyone present.
We weren’t received by them in the throne room, where most of the king’s audiences happened, but were sent straight to the garden where they had prepared some refreshments for everyone.
Alexandra, Melina’s little sister, was also present and ran straight to her for a hug before we could even greet her.
Seeing them together warmed my heart a little. But I still thought it was funny how Alexandra looked like a smaller copy of her big sister, with the only notable difference being the turquoise strand of hair she had.
