Chapter 64: The 7th Knight’s Order

The day we received the ponchos from Vespera, we began practicing our flying with it.

Surprisingly, it was much easier than casting the different spells by ourselves. To activate the poncho’s gravity magic, we just had to add a little bit of our own MP.

Once the gravity enchantment was active and our bodies rose from the floor, we used air magic and propelled ourselves into the air.

Vespera had used the same enchantment on her dress and was able to fly with us while Yoru stayed in my shadow so he could hitch a ride.

Now that we were able to travel much faster, I deduced that we would make it to Port Town Blue on that same day.

However, after an hour of flying straight, we found our first hurdle.

"I hear something up ahead," said Vespera.

Stopping in the middle of our flight, I used my "search" spell and noticed that a group of people were fighting monsters not too far away from us.

The monsters didn’t feel too powerful, but the people seemed to be struggling, so we had to act fast.

Propelling ourselves forward to go even faster, we quickly flew to the spot of the commotion.

From the sky, we could see a group of knights fighting monsters that resembled oversized frogs. And when I say oversized, I mean the size of a horse.

<Blood Frogs

Rank C

A carnivorous monster that likes to eat humans.>

After a quick inspection, we noticed that the monsters were C-ranked, which was pretty weak compared to the monsters we found constantly in End Forest.

Its description of "eating humans" was definitely quite scary, but they were still mere C ranks, so they were probably not very strong. Nevertheless, the knights seemed to struggle against them.

Swiftly making our way to the battle, I saw one of the frogs was about to attack a female knight as she was missing her weapon.

The brown-haired woman closed her eyes, resigning to her fate, but as soon as the frog opened its mouth, I used gravity magic to make me heavier and landed right on top of it, squishing it down and killing it instantly.

I gazed at the princess, who landed a few meters away from me in front of a couple of knights that were also about to get eaten by a frog. However, Melina placed her hand on the ground and raised earth spikes that impaled the monster.

We both made eye contact, smiled, and turned with a swift motion using our air magic to propel us all around the field, slaying any of the blood frogs that got in our way.

The knights were confused. They didn’t expect to see two kids flying around rapidly and killing the frogs with one strike, but they still seemed relieved.

Vespera and Yoru were also helping, as I instructed them to support any knight that they found struggling.

By the end of the fight, our group had taken down at least 45 frogs, and we walked around giving the knights healing potions for their wounds.

"That was... easy?" Melina said as the group met on the road while the knights rested their injuries.

I nodded. "Compared to what we’ve seen, these frogs wouldn’t last a day in the forest."

Yoru shifted back into my shadow, and at that exact moment, a red-haired woman wearing a regal knight’s armor approached us.

"Hi, commander!" exclaimed the princess.

She was the commander of the knight’s 7th order, and her name was Valentina Embervane.

She kneeled at the sight of the princess and offered her thanks for our aid, saying that the princess shouldn’t have bothered with such matters. But the princess never cared for formalities and asked the knight to stand.

The commander asked what she was doing around the area when the princess pulled out her gold adventurer card, saying that we had arrived to help and introduced us to her.

The woman didn’t seem happy to meet us. In fact, she hesitated and took a few steps back after we introduced Vespera as a legendary beast.

("Maybe we shouldn’t do that...") I thought.

The people in End Town were used to seeing her, and they all knew that she wasn’t a threat but a blessing. However, people in other cities had never even seen a legendary beast, so naturally, they felt fearful of her.

I supposed the princess must have thought the same as I did and asked the commander to keep Vespera’s identity a secret for the time being, as she didn’t want to cause a commotion with the knights.

Vespera couldn’t care less, though. She just stood next to us with a prideful smile, acting like she wasn’t even listening.

The commander then offered to pay for the healing potions we gave them, but I declined, telling her I had a few hundred of them in my void pocket, so it wasn’t a big deal.

She scoffed, saying that knights shouldn’t take charity and that they could easily pay for them. But I corrected her and said that she shouldn’t take a random act of kindness as charity.

I didn’t know what her problem was, but the commander just stared at me with a disgruntled expression, making the princess raise her arms and wave them nervously as she felt the tension.

We were interrupted by a group of knights who came to us to thank us. I recognized one of them as the lady knight that I saved first and saw that all of her wounds had healed.

They kneeled before the princess, to which she asked them to stand up immediately, clearly getting tired of having to repeat herself.

"Well, if we are done here, we can keep going..." I said as I was getting ready to continue flying to Port Town Blue.

"Ichiro, wait!" said the princess before I could activate the gravity enchantment on my poncho.

"These guys are going there too. Shouldn’t we keep them company, just in case?" she asked, her eyes resembling a puppy’s.

The truth was that I didn’t want to travel with the knights since the commander clearly disliked us, at least me and my companions.

The rest of the knights were nice and friendly, but I had to deal with a noble commander knight already, and it wasn’t something that I wanted to do again.

Yes, Commander Thomas became good friends with me, and the people in End Town respected him. But it didn’t take away from the fact that the first days we spent together, he either ignored me or treated me like trash.

Knowing I couldn’t say no to the princess’ puppy eyes, I sighed and caved in.

The knights seemed quite happy at the fact that we were traveling with them, except for the commander, who kept frowning and giving me intense glares.

We made our way through the paved road for a few more hours before the sun started to set, prompting the knights to set up camp on the side.

They pulled some large pieces of fabric from the cart they hauled at the back and said it was time to build the tents.

"There’s no need," I said, looking at the princess as if she knew my plan.

Stepping on the side of the road, we placed our hands on the ground and built small rooms for the knights while Vespera weaved beds and pillows for them.

The entire order was left with their mouths open wide in astonishment, rubbing their eyes to make sure that what they were seeing was real. Even the commander looked impressed.

Once we were done, we built another one a few meters away from the rest, which would be the one we used. These small rooms were nothing fancy, but they were much better than their tents.

As nighttime fell, Melina and I decided to cook for them since we had lots of food in our void pockets from the hundreds of monsters we had hunted for the past year.

Like last time, I thought a hot pot would be the easiest and best way to feed everyone and keep them warm and cozy throughout the night.

During this time, the commander didn’t say another word to me. Even when I served some of the hot pot in her bowl, she just ignored me and avoided my gaze.

I sighed again. ("I can’t wait to get to the city...")

Once the knights were satisfied with big smiles on their faces, they went into the rooms to sleep with only two of them standing guard outside.

In our small room were Yoru, Vespera, Melina, and me. However, my companion made only three beds.

"You are not sleeping tonight?" I asked Vespera.

"Meh, I slept three days ago. I’m feeling good," she responded nonchalantly.

I was planning on going out in the middle of the night to stand guard, too. But, if she was going to be awake, then there wasn’t much of a point in me missing my sleep.

"Well, can you help those guys outside and make sure nothing gets close to us?" I asked.

"Do I tell them to go to sleep?" Vespera responded with another question.

"I don’t think the commander trusts us to guard them, so just let them be, I guess..."

Vespera nodded and left the room.

When I turned to look at Melina, she was already slumbering on her bed, same with Yoru.
