Chapter 76: Where did you sleep?

The phone stopped ringing and the room was plunged into silence. The loudest sound was Jingzhe’s breathing which was tickling her neck. Mei Mei could not tell what was bothering her more, the hot breath on her neck, the lips brushing against it or the loud beating of her heart.

Suddenly, Jingzhe moved, he kissed her neck and her eyes widened.

"Sister, your hugs are like magic, this one has healed me." he said.

Mei Mei pushed him back by the shoulder and he raised his body, supporting himself with his palms. He did not move, he just hovered over her. There was no regret or apology in his eyes and yet his cheeks were slightly red.

She guessed that it had probably taken a lot for him to dare to kiss her neck.

She touched his cheek and said, "A Zhe, don’t you know that even men protect themselves when they are outside?"

"But we are inside." he replied.

She snickered and pushed him back further and sat up. "Let me check your bruises and the wound on your hand. We have to go to work today, we are expecting a group of fifteen campers that want to enjoy the campfire and stay overnight. This is the first sleep over we are hosting, it needs to be successful."

Jingzhe was amazed that she could still think about work when the air was ambiguous. Still, he presented his body for inspection and even got himself three kisses, one on the forehead and two on his chest.

When she left his bedroom, she went in search of Mingzhu first. The serum had already been delivered in the pocket of her pants and she wanted to give it to he immediately.

It would put an end to Mingzhu’s illnesses and help with her allergies. When she found her daughter who was getting ready to eat breakfast, the conversation between them went in an unexpected direction.

Mingzhu started by jumping out of the chair and folding her arms across her chest. Then, she looked at Mei Mei with a frown and disappointed face.

Mei Mei looked at Lian and Feng Qi, hoping they would explain but the two appeared to be clueless.

"Baby..." Mei Mei laughed nervously and started.

"No." Mingzhu said. "No baby, don’t try to coax Minghzu."

"Awwww...." Mei Mei cooed and she tried to pinch Mingzhu’s cheeks.

Mingzhu stepped aside to avoid being pinched. "Mom, you need a royal decree to pinch this general’s cheeks from now on."

Mei Mei snorted and laughed. "Are you still calling yourself general? And stop with the royal decrees. Yesterday you said you need a royal decree to drink milk. The other day, you needed a royal decree to put on your shoes. My ancestor, give your mom some peace of mind."

"This general wants to know where you slept last night." Mingzhu replied.

Mei Mei was lost for words. She never thought that someday she would face the same questioning she used to undergo with her mother. This took her back to her teenage years.

"Baby." she started.

Mingzhu shook her head. "General." she said in a serious voice.

Feng Qi coughed into the cup of milk she was pretending to drink and the maids in the dining room giggled. Lian decided that this was something her mother would love to see. After all, she had been sent to the house to monitor her aunt’s movements and report if there was trouble. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm

Mei Mei scoffed. "She has lost her mind." she muttered.

Mingzhu cleared her throat. "I am waiting."

"Oh my God!!" Mei Mei exclaimed and rolled her eyes. "You are worse than your uncle Mingzhe."

"General, your mommy slept in the same room with your daddy." Feng Qi chimed in, helping out because she had a feeling that Mei Mei was stuck. Instead of looking for fake excuses, it was best to be straight forward.

"Daddy was sick." Mei Mei quickly added.

Mingzhu dropped her hands from her chest. She looked worried now. "Daddy is sick."

"He is fine now." Mei Mei assured her. When she pinched Mingzhu’s cheeks this time round, the little girl did not avoid it. "He had a fever but he is fine now."

Minghzu checked Mei Mei’s forehead. When she was sure that her mother was alright, she went back to have breakfast. Mei Mei mouthed thank you to Feng Qi.

"By the way, madam Feng, what happened to Mrs. Sun? It has been a very long time since I last saw anywhere in the house. She doesn’t even call to bother me about me anything and yet she used to call me ten times a day." Mei Mei asked. She looked at Mingzhu and added to the questions. "Has your grandmother called you?"

Minghzu did not have a phone but she had a smart watch that could make and receive calls, audio and video.

She could only use it outside school hours and on the holidays and on weekends.

"I blocked her." Mingzhu answered before loudly crunching some cereal loudly.

"Milk, put the cereal in the milk." Mei Mei almost moaned. She would never understand why Mingzhu did not like cereals in milk and opted to eat plain cereal. "When did you block her?"

"When you were sick in the hospital, grandma Chi Chi blocked it for me. She blocked freeloading grandma and everyone from bad uncle’s family." Mingzhu replied.

Conveniently she did not say anything about the cereal and grabbed another handful of homemade chocolate cereal.

Meanwhile, Mei Mei was thinking that her mother blocking Mrs. Sun and all the other Mo’s made much more sense than Mingzhu doing it. After all, in the math homework Mingzhu had done the day before she made a ridiculous mistake [15+8=158.]. A child that could make that mistake had probably not yet figured out how to tinker with the settings of the smart watch yet.

"I made her mop the entire second floor alone the day after they moved in and she run away that same evening. We have not heard from her since." Feng Qi informed her.

Mei Mei laughed. She would have loved to see Mrs. Sun doing some housework for once in her life. The woman used to eat melon seeds and throw the husks on the floor while Mei Mei was moping the house. It was too bad that she run away so quickly.

She decided to give Mingzhu the gene altering serum later. Mei Mei went to shower and prepare for work. Weekends were the busiest days for people in any business that involved recreation.

The mistake she made was spontaneously deciding to use the confiscated smart makeup mirror while applying lip stick.

She was now glaring at the mirror which was telling her that her nose was too wide by three inches, the tip was not long enough and her lips needed some plumping.

It had gone as far as to recommend plastic surgeons and procedures.

"How is this a little girls toy?" she groaned and smashed her fist through it. In her mind, it shattered into oblivion.
