Chapter 88: Laughing Through the Chaos ( 88 )

"Heh... You messed with the wrong guy, chibi~," Hazuki smirked, throwing a quick glance at the twitching thugs on the ground.

With that, he casually whistled as if nothing had happened, hands in his pockets, strolling back toward the Adventurer Guild.

The defeated Halflings groaned in confusion, completely unsure of how they had just been taken down in mere seconds.

Hazuki patted his pocket, feeling the small map still tucked safely inside. He checked his money pouch—yep, still there.

"Heheheh... Can’t wait to reach that cave and claim my treasure!" he grinned to himself, his eyes glinting with excitement.

"But first—" he smirked, cracking his knuckles, "—let’s hit the Adventurer Guild, withdraw some money, buy a bag, stock up on food... and grab a good ol’ waterskin."

With his plan set, he strolled toward the Adventurer Guild, whistling a carefree tune.

After stopping by the Adventurer Guild, Hazuki withdrew some money and asked for directions to the cave.

The receptionist gave him a weird look and asked, "Why do you want to go there?"

Yeah, like I’d actually tell them, "Oh, I’m totally going treasure hunting!" No way! So I just shrugged and said, "Just curious."

With that settled, I bought a new side bag, stocked up on beef jerky, and grabbed a waterskin.

Then... I bolted.

Strolling? Nah. More like sprinting like a madman!

Who the hell wouldn’t run for treasure?!

Hazuki was bolting toward the area the receptionist pointed out—his mind completely fixated on one thing: TREASURE.

Nothing else mattered. Not the town, not the people, not— frёeweɓηovel.coɱ

Wait.

A commotion up ahead. Some thugs looking groups were shaking down a girl in the middle of the road.

Did Hazuki care? No.

Did he slow down? Also no.

"MOVE OVER!!"

Without stopping, Hazuki leapt into the air—his foot "accidentally" slamming directly into the thug leader’s face.

"GUEHH?!"

The poor bastard crashed to the ground, while Hazuki?

He didn’t even care.

His feet touched down, and he just kept running.

Treasure first. Everything else? Not his problem.

The remaining thugs stood there, jaws dropped, minds struggling to process what just happened.

"Wha—? Did he just...?"

One of them slowly turned to look at their leader, now sprawled out cold on the ground, boot print still fresh on his face.

Meanwhile, the Halfling girl, eyes wide in shock, whispered to herself, "Who... is that man?"

Another thug mumbled, "And why the hell was he in such a rush...?"

As they stood there, still dazed and utterly confused, the girl took the chance to slip away, dashing back toward Hazlin Town.

Once Hazuki reached the road toward the lake—though still quite far—he slowed down, catching his breath.

"Alright... this should be the road the receptionist mentioned, right?"

He pulled out the map given by the Adventurer Guild and unfolded it, scanning the crude drawings. Then, he reached into his pocket and pulled out the small map he had "accidentally dropped" from the two Halflings.

"Hmm... yeah, I think it’s this road... ah, maybe there? Or maybe that one?"

Hazuki glanced around, his eyes darting between the different branching paths. Everything looked the same—just trees, dirt, and more trees. He sighed. Why couldn’t treasure maps be more like video game minimaps?

Just as he was about to take a random guess, a gentle breeze blew past, rustling the trees. One particular road seemed to sway more than the others, as if calling out to him.

Hazuki narrowed his eyes at it. "Huh... is this a sign? Like, the world itself guiding me to treasure?"

A smug grin spread across his face.

"Alright! I’m pretty sure it’s this road!"

With confidence (and zero verification), Hazuki marched straight down the mysterious path, fully convinced that fate—or maybe just the wind—was leading him to riches.

Hazuki strolled down the eerie path. Shadows loomed over him as the trees thickened, their branches intertwining like skeletal fingers. A chill ran down his spine, but he quickly shrugged it off.

"Well... this road’s a bit creepy, but whatever. TREASURE!!" He giggled to himself like a lunatic, his mind filled with images of gold, jewels, and a luxurious life.

Then—he suddenly stopped.

A group of goblins stood ahead, their twisted faces stretched into wide, creepy grins. Their beady eyes glowed faintly in the dim light, and their gnarled hands gripped crude wooden clubs.

Hazuki’s lips curled into a smirk. "Oho~ You want to play, huh, goblins?"

With a swift motion, he unsheathed his sword. A surge of mana flowed through it—igniting the blade in a burst of bright, crackling flames.

The goblins hesitated for a moment but quickly screeched in excitement before charging at him.

"Guhi! Guhi!"

SLASH!

SLASH!

SLASH!

Limbs flew. The burning steel sliced through goblin flesh like paper. Their shrieks filled the air, but Hazuki didn’t care—he was having the time of his life.

"Gyahahahah! This is fun!" he cackled like a madman as he weaved between them, his sword dancing in fiery arcs.

Another goblin lunged—Hazuki twisted, sidestepped, and drove his blade straight through its chest. The flames roared, consuming the creature as it howled in agony.

He exhaled sharply, a wicked grin spreading across his face. "It’s been so long since I’ve fought goblins..."

His excitement boiled over. He gripped his sword tightly, eyes gleaming with bloodlust.

"GYAAAAHAHAHAHAHA!!"

And with that, he rushed forward, eager to tear through the remaining goblins like a beast let loose on prey.

Hazuki didn’t understand why—but he couldn’t stop laughing.

This thrill, this rush, this overwhelming excitement—it wasn’t normal. It felt familiar, like he’d experienced it before, somewhere deep inside him.

But he didn’t care.

He only knew two things:

Kill goblins.

Get treasure.

"Guhi!!" one goblin squealed in terror and tried to run.

"Aha~ don’t run~" Hazuki cooed, his voice dripping with amusement.

He dashed forward, closing the distance in an instant.

SLASH!

The goblin barely had time to scream before it was cut in half.

Hazuki licked his lips, eyes gleaming with madness.

"No goblin should live... BWAHAHAHAHA!!"

He charged into the remaining goblins, swinging his sword wildly, flames dancing around him like a raging inferno.

The goblins screamed.

Hazuki only laughed louder.

ROAAAAAR!!

A deep, guttural bellow shook the forest.

Hazuki’s grin widened. "Oho~ so the big guy finally shows up, huh?"

A massive goblin, towering over the others, stomped forward. Its heavy armor clanked, and its spiked club dragged against the ground, leaving deep grooves in the dirt.

The goblins around it shrieked in excitement. Their leader had arrived.

But Hazuki?

He just chuckled. Scared? What is that?

He didn’t know why, but his blood boiled with excitement. His body trembled, not with fear—but with pure, uncontrollable thrill.

The Goblin General roared again and charged, raising its massive club high above its head.

Hazuki didn’t hesitate.

He dashed forward, leaping high into the air.

The Goblin General swung down—

But Hazuki was already above it.

"GYAAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!"

With a manic grin, Hazuki drove his flaming sword straight down, stabbing deep into the Goblin General’s skull.

The beast twitched violently—then collapsed with a thunderous crash.

The forest went silent.

Hazuki landed smoothly, placing a foot on the goblin’s still-twitching body.

"Who’s next?" he whispered, grinning like a madman.
