ISEKAI? More like I See Crap!-Chapter 191: The Town’s Frenzy ( )
Chapter 191: The Town’s Frenzy ( 191 )
"...Leader," one of the guards leaned in and whispered, eyes wide. "How should we report this?"
The squad leader didn’t answer right away. His eyes were still locked on the black-haired human standing triumphantly atop a corpse pile.
"I... I don’t know," the leader muttered.
"Crazy black-haired human guy... defeated all of this?" the archer whispered.
"Don’t even ask," the squad leader replied flatly. "I don’t know."
Another guard tilted his head. "Should we at least check for survivors? Maybe someone helped him?"
"Do you want to be the one to climb that pile and ask him?"
"...No."
Hazuki suddenly cupped his hands and yelled down again.
"Oi! If any of you touch this pile while I’m blinking, I’ll count that as theft!"
Everyone went quiet again.
The squad leader’s eye twitched.
Just as the group tried to process the madness atop the corpse pile, another movement caught their eyes.
From the side of the monster mound.
A second head slowly rose from behind the monster pile, just beside Hazuki. Smaller. Slender.
Long pale hair tangled slightly from ash and wind.
Pointed ears.
A little elf girl.
She stood up fully from behind a troll’s .
Then, gracefully, she bowed.
Silent. Polite. Calm.
The squad just stared.
The squad leader’s mouth opened slightly.
"...What."
The girl straightened and moved to stand beside Hazuki, her simple dress fluttering faintly in the wind.
One of the guards whispered, stunned.
"Th-That’s... the girl from that rundown orphanage..."
Another nodded slowly.
"I thought she was just one of the orphans."
"She is," someone else muttered. "Or was?"
"...Are we dreaming?" someone asked.
The squad leader just sighed.
"Was... was she the one who helped him?" someone finally whispered.
The silence that followed was heavier than before.
"I mean... she’s just a kid, right?"
"There’s no record of any elf capable of that kind of magic," one of the mages said quietly, brows furrowed.
"And besides, those spells weren’t anything like I’ve ever seen."
"Not even close," another chimed in. "I’ve read through every magic report at the guild library. Not a single mention of anything like that."
"Even the top mages from the Human Kingdom during the demon invasion a few years back... they couldn’t do something that massive," a guard muttered. "And those were entire war parties."
"Yeah..." someone nodded. "I agree."
A moment passed.
"...Maybe we should head to town. Tell the Guild Master."
"No, no...we should report to the City Overseer first."
"Wait! Shouldn’t we inform the Knight Captain instead?"
"Ah, right. The knights from the lord’s house will be assembling soon anyway..."
"What... what do we even say?"
"I don’t know!" the squad leader hissed, rubbing his forehead. "Just say... say everything is under control!"
Silence.
At the center of it all, Hazuki grunted as he flipped over an ogre body and shoved it up the side.
He didn’t look at them. Didn’t say a word.
He just kept piling monsters. One arm after another. Trolls. Goblins. A giant’s.
"...Let’s head back to town and inform them," one of the adventurers finally said, breaking the silence.
"Yeah. Good idea."
"Agree."
The squad leader gave one last glance at the monster piles, then turned to Hazuki.
"W-We’re... going now, mister human," he called out carefully.
Hazuki didn’t even look at him.
"Hmm? Yeah, yeah," he muttered, focused as he balanced a lizard-like creature on top of the troll carcass.
Elvia, still quiet, bent down nearby and started dragging one of the smaller monsters toward the stack, her sleeves getting dirtier by the second.
As the group began their retreat, no one spoke.
But just as they passed beyond the clearing and back onto the forest path, they heard it—
"I’ll give you a share if you keep helping, little girl."
"...Um... okay..."
The guards and adventurers didn’t look back.
Meanwhile, in Macia Town.
The plaza outside the Guild Hall buzzed with unrest.
Citizens had gathered in groups, whispering, pacing, muttering. Children were pulled closer to their parents. Shopkeepers stood frozen behind their stalls, watching the gate like it might explode.
"What’s taking them so long?"
"They should’ve been back by now..."
"Maybe... maybe they’re under attack?"
"Or still fighting something?"
"...Maybe it’s a demon!"
That word hit the air like a spark in dry hay.
Gasps. Shouts. Movement.
The plaza erupted in panic.
"A demon?! You didn’t say anything about a demon!!"
"Why didn’t the guards tell us?!"
"My child’s still at the western market!!"
"The church should be sending mages!! Where’s the Church?!"
And then, as if one voice, dozens turned toward the City Overseer standing nervously near the Guild Hall steps.
"It’s your job to protect this town!!" someone shouted.
The rest joined in.
"Do something!!"
"Call the knights!!"
"Send more adventurers!!"
"Ah!! N-no! Please! Calm down!" the City Overseer held out both hands, sweating, trying to manage the swelling crowd. "Th-The scouting team is just delayed! There’s no confirmed danger yet!"
The crowd didn’t buy it.
Rumors were spreading faster than any horse could gallop.
"Maybe the black-haired human’s actually a demon in disguise!"
"Yeah!! He has to be!"
"He took down the entire Silveroad party with just his fists! Fists! No normal person does that!"
"And he talks to the air!"
"That’s right! That’s demon behavior! Who else talks to spirits that aren’t there?!"
"He’s cursed! He’s been cursed since the day he stepped into Macia!"
The plaza roared louder, voices overlapping in growing hysteria.
"You should’ve stopped him, City Overseer!"
"Call the lord! We demand someone answer for this!!"
"It’s the guards’ fault for letting him into town!"
"No! It’s the Guild Master’s fault! He allowed that freak to become an adventurer!"
"He should’ve been thrown out the moment he yelled about melting goblins!"
The City Overseer’s face paled.
"I..I assure you there’s no proof"
"EXACTLY! NO PROOF! Because you’re hiding it!!"
"I-I’m not hiding anything! I—I—I—"
"HE’S GONNA BRING THE WHOLE TOWN DOWN!"
The crowd was no longer just panicking.
They were furious.
Shouting. Accusing. Fists clenched and tails bristling. Logic had long since fled the plaza.
In the middle of it all, Kisha stood silently.
She didn’t speak. Didn’t move. Just watched them.
Even I don’t really know who he is... she thought.
The human had shown up out of nowhere. Spoke like a fool. Laughed like a maniac. Argued with the air.
But—
He gave us beds.
Food.
Paid old Buron to fix the orphanage’s roof.
Kisha finally opened her mouth.
"...We should... not accuse him... not yet."
Her voice barely rose above the noise.
And yet, the words hit the wrong ears.
"Ohh? So you’re defending him now!?"
"You say that because he paid for everything for you!"
"Maybe you already slept with him!"
"You offered your body to him, didn’t you?! That’s why you’re protecting him!"
Kisha flinched, eyes widening.
"That’s right! That’s why she brought him here! She was already his pet!"
"Even brought him to a children’s place,disgusting!"
"Who knows what kind of curses he’s spreading there!"
Her fists trembled.
She wanted to shout. To fight back. To deny everything.
But she couldn’t speak.
Not because she believed them.
But because she wasn’t sure herself who he really was.
And no one in the crowd cared about truth anymore.
