ISEKAI? More like I See Crap!-Chapter 192: From Fear to Faith ( )
Chapter 192: From Fear to Faith ( 192 )
The panic froze.
Shouts died mid-word. Accusations halted.
Everyone turned toward the city gate as a voice rang out from the walls above.
"The investigation team has returned!"
"We’re opening the gate!"
All eyes snapped to the towering iron doors.
The guards nearby quickly assembled into formation.
Shields raised, pikes forward, boots locked behind the first line. A defensive stance.
Mages stepped behind them, ready to cast. Archers climbed the side towers and aimed downward.
The gate groaned.
Steel creaked slowly as the massive doors parted, inch by inch. Dust scattered. A cold wind swept in from the path beyond.
The crowd held its breath.
The squad leader stepped into the town square, his expression unreadable, followed by the rest of the investigation team, their faces pale and silent.
They were intact. Uninjured. No signs of a fight. No monsters behind them.
But something about their silence made the air heavier.
Everyone leaned forward, waiting.
As soon as the squad leader crossed the threshold, the City Overseer and Guild Master Braham rushed forward.
"Report," Braham said, voice low and urgent.
"What happened out there?" the City Overseer added, nearly tripping over his robe.
The squad leader didn’t answer immediately.
Instead, he motioned for them to lean in. What followed was hushed. Quiet. Urgent whispers passed between the three.
The crowd couldn’t hear the words, only fragments.
They watched the City Overseer’s expression shift from concern to wide-eyed disbelief.
The Guild Master’s jaw clenched, arms folding as if bracing himself for something outrageous.
And then they heard it.
"Really?" the Guild Master asked.
"Yes," the squad leader replied.
Murmurs rippled through the crowd.
"That’s what we found?"
"Yes. We confirm it."
"...Seriously?"
"Yes."
The crowd began to stir again, quiet at first. Uncertain. Confused.
"What are they talking about...?"
"Who? Who did it?"
"Was it the demon?"
"What did they find out there?!"
"Just tell us already!!"
"We pay taxes!!"
"You have no right to hide the truth from the public!"
The tension snapped as shouts burst from the crowd again. Faces flushed, fists raised, tails lashing. Panic reared back for round two.
Braham, the Guild Master, let out a deep sigh.
Then he stepped forward, adjusting his cloak with the patience of a man regretting his job.
"...There’s no need to panic," he said, hands raised. "According to the investigation unit.."
He paused, glancing briefly at the pale-faced squad leader.
"A massive group of mid-tier to high-tier monsters were confirmed approaching Macia."
"WHAT?!"
"Monster horde?!"
"High-tier?! We’re doomed!!"
"THE WALLS WON’T HOLD!"
The panic erupted again before he could finish. People screamed.
Braham’s eye twitched.
He raised both hands sharply.
"AHEM!!"
The sound echoed across the plaza. freeωebnovēl.c૦m
He sighed again, slower this time.
"...I didn’t finish my report yet."
Braham exhaled, raising one hand again.
"Now, as I was saying—" he glanced toward the squad leader. "Continue the report."
The squad leader stepped forward stiffly. His voice was clear, if a little unsure.
"...According to our scouts, the monster horde appeared to be heading straight for Macia. Mid to high-tier threats. A dozen at least."
The crowd tensed. Whispers returned instantly.
"But..."
He paused. A few in the front leaned in.
"...They were all defeated before they reached the forest perimeter. Every last one."
Confused murmurs spread like ripples.
The squad leader continued, voice tighter now.
"We found the monster corpses stacked in a clearing. Cleanly grouped. There were no signs of additional combat teams nearby."
"And...?"
The Guild Master folded his arms.
"...And standing on top of the pile..was the black-haired human. Alone. And according to our scouts, there was also a young elf girl with him."
A hush swept the crowd.
Eyes widened. Tails froze. Ears twitched.
"Wha..."
"Wait... him?"
"The crazy one?!"
"No way..."
Kisha gasped.
Her eyes widened as the words sank in.
Elvia... was with him?
She took a trembling step forward.
He... protected her?
Her knees buckled slightly as tears gathered in her eyes.
"...She’s safe..."
Her voice was barely a whisper.
"...Thank you... mister..."
The crowd began to settle.
A nervous silence rippled outward as people digested the impossible report.
"...He defeated all of them?"
"Alone?"
"That’s... terrifying."
"If one black-haired human can wipe out a horde of high-tier monsters by himself..."
"...Then maybe he really is a demon!?"
A wave of fear started to rise again—more hushed this time. Not panic, but a quiet unease. No longer furious. Just afraid.
That was when Braham stepped forward again, rubbing his temple.
"Ahem."
The sound cracked like a whip.
All eyes turned.
"We have received official confirmation from the royal palace," Braham said plainly, scanning the crowd.
Murmurs paused.
"This particular human..." he continued, "...is the one who has formed a Pinky Promise Oath with Her Highness, Princess Ellyna."
Silence.
Absolute silence.
Even the birds on the rooftop stopped chirping.
"...What."
"P-Princess Ellyna...?"
"The princess?"
"...The human is her pinky promise partner?!"
Braham nodded.
"So no. He is not a demon. That should clear any further suspicion."
"How can you confirm this!?" someone in the crowd shouted, voice sharp with disbelief.
Braham didn’t flinch.
He simply adjusted his collar, straightened his back, and replied in a calm, matter-of-fact tone.
"This black-haired human, adventurer name Hazekaya Hazuki, once claimed he single-handedly destroyed an entire goblin settlement."
"He submitted left ears instead of right, despite being told three times. We did not take it seriously."
The crowd grumbled in agreement.
"But," Braham continued, "we still sent out an investigation team to confirm the status of that settlement. Especially after nearby villagers reported a sudden stop in goblin attacks."
He paused, letting the silence stretch.
"The report confirmed that the entire goblin settlement was gone. Completely destroyed. No survivors. And the surrounding roads and village was safe again. The civilians traveling there were also unharmed."
Now the crowd listened.
"At first, we believed it could not have been him alone. So we requested any further information we could find from other branches."
A pause.
"Then... we received a message."
The murmurs started again.
Braham raised one finger.
"From the royal palace."
Now the plaza fell silent.
"The message was sent by Princess Ellyna herself. It confirmed the identity of this human and his role. That is all I am permitted to tell you, under royal order."
Dead silence.
"...If...if he’s our princess’s man..." one of the older merchants muttered, scratching his head, "...well, then we believe it."
"Y-Yeah. Of course."
"That changes everything."
The crowd slowly shifted again.
But this time, not into panic or rage.
Into smiles.
Into relief.
After all, Princess Ellyna was beloved across the Beastkin Kingdom. Her kindness, intelligence, and firm will were known far and wide. She was the hope of the people, the youngest royal with the heart of a queen and the sharpness of a merchant.
If she trusted this human, Then maybe he wasn’t a demon.
Maybe he was just... strange.
And besides, it was well known.
The royal family was the best thing about this kingdom.
Only the nobles ever caused problems.
"Ah, our princess always knows what she’s doing."
"She even saw through the human and picked him personally, huh?"
"Pinky promise... that’s not something given lightly. If she chose him, he must be special."
The plaza shifted into quiet chatter, half-curious and half-proud. Some people even nodded as if they’d never doubted it to begin with.
Even the City Overseer, still sweating from earlier, started to stand straighter.
"...Finally.".
