Chapter 190: Wild Strength, Quiet News ( 190 )

The group of beastkin guards and adventurers moved cautiously beyond the orphanage walls, their eyes darting to every shadow and rustling leaf.

Their footsteps were light, muffled by fallen leaves and patches of scorched earth.

"We’re approaching the forest line," the squad leader whispered, raising his hand to signal the others to slow down.

The mages clutched their staves tighter, sensing the tension.

The archers, positioned at the rear, kept their bows half-drawn, scanning ahead with narrowed eyes.

"Let’s hope it’s not a demon...," a young adventurer muttered, his tail flicking nervously.

"Yeah...," another nodded quietly, voice tense. "If it’s a demon, we’ll need at least a rank B adventurer—maybe more."

"Or the royal guard captain," a guard with a spear added grimly. "Or one of the royal beast warriors... or court mages."

"Yeah..." another echoed, swallowing hard.

Ahead, the forest stretched out, dim and misty, with patches still faintly smoldering from Ridan’s earlier storm of magic.

Thin trails of smoke curled between the trees, and the bitter scent of scorched flesh lingered—a warning to those who dared approach.

No words were spoken now. Weapons were drawn and grips tightened.

They moved forward, breath held, hearts pounding, senses alert for whatever danger lay beyond.

The moment they stepped past the final row of trees, the group halted as one.

The scene before them.

They were stunned.

Shocked.

"...What... the hell..."

A massive pile of corpses stood like a grim monument in the middle of the scorched clearing.

Trolls, their thick hides charred black.

Two giants, each easily three meters tall.

A goblin general lay face-first in the dirt.

A red-scaled serpent the size of a carriage was coiled in death, its flesh melted in places.

And that wasn’t all.

A second pile was being formed nearby.

more mid-tier monsters stacked like trophies, all clearly slain within hours of each other.

Dozens of them. Maybe more.

One of the rank D adventurers took a shaky step forward, eyes wide.

"T-Those aren’t just forest creatures... these are... Rank C monsters and above..."

Another adventurer, more experienced, knelt beside the serpent’s corpse and touched the scales.

Still warm.

"This... This is fresh."

A guard gulped.

"Then what did this?"

Silence.

Then, the youngest mage whispered hoarsely.

"...Was it... a demon?"

No one answered.

The squad leader’s brow furrowed. His ears twitched. His grip on his sword tightened.

"...We report this immediately," he said.

"But if this was a demon..."

Another guard whispered, voice tight with dread, "Then Macia isn’t ready for what’s coming."

The squad remained frozen, eyes locked on the horrifying battlefield. No one moved.

Then..

"Hmm?"

A low grunt echoed from within the towering pile of corpses.

Everyone jumped.

Suddenly, a head popped up.Messy black hair, matted with soot and monster gunk, a piece of burnt goblin ear stuck to his forehead.

"...Wha—!?"

The beastkin guards all instinctively sprang into action—raising their weapons in unison.

Mages flinched, fingers tightening on their staves.

Bows were drawn, and a dagger nearly slipped from the hand of one archer.

Hazuki blinked, dazed, looking around from between two troll ribs, his vision blurry.

He stared at the armored group, completely unaware of the chaos he’d just caused.

Fifteen beastkin soldiers in full gear, swords, spears, and magic staves, all shining with the town’s crest on their shoulder plates.

"...Oi," Hazuki finally said, squinting at them in confusion.

Then his voice snapped sharply into a shout.

"DON’T YOU DARE STEAL MY LOOT!"

Everyone flinched again.

Hazuki climbed up to the top of the pile,Hazuki planted one foot atop a crushed goblin chief, adopting a stance like some mad bandit king ruling over his loot.

"I KILLED EVERY LAST ONE! THIS IS MINE! MINE! YOU TOUCH ANYTHING.I SWEAR I’LL KILL YOU!" he roared, voice echoing through the forest clearing.

A long, awkward silence stretched out afterward.

The mage at the back leaned over to another, bewildered.

Weapons still raised, the beastkin guards stared, stunned silent, as Hazuki stood atop the mountain of monster corpses—covered in grime, blood, and charred bits. He shielded the bodies behind him like a feral dragon guarding treasure, arms wide.

"This is mine! MINE!!" he shouted again, eyes wild. "Shoo! Shoo! Get your own loot!"

The guards didn’t move. The adventurers exchanged baffled glances.

"Wait a minute..." one whispered, ears twitching.

"Isn’t that... the black-haired human?" another murmured.

"The one who talks to the air?" a mage added quietly.

"...The one who beat the Silveroad Rank D party in the arena?" a bow-wielder at the back said.

A long pause.

"You mean the guy who fought with just punches and kicks?"

"Yeah... that guy."

They all slowly looked back up at Hazuki, who was now squatting on top of a dead ogre, waving his arms frantically like a feral merchant.

"Mine! All mine! Don’t touch! I will personally dropkick anyone who tries to steal anything from here!"

One adventurer gulped. "He took down all these monsters by himself...?"

"W-What level even is he...?"

No one dared to step forward.

Hazuki, completely unaware of the confusion behind him.

"U-Err... C-Can we ask something?" the squad leader stammered, gripping his shield just a little tighter.

Hazuki spun around atop the monster pile, hand raised like a strict merchant.

"Yes, you can ask, but no sharing! I don’t split loot!"

The group flinched again.

"Umm..."

"Errr..."

"...What?" Hazuki narrowed his eyes, suspicious.

"You... really defeated all of them?" the leader finally asked, voice almost a whisper. "For real?"

Hazuki slammed a fist proudly into his chest. "YES! Me and my loyal and humble spirit companion!" He jabbed a thumb toward the top of his head, where Ridan still lounged like a smug ferret with ego issues.

The beastkin squad stared blankly.

There was nothing there.

"...Errr..."

A whisper passed among the adventurers.

"So he really is crazy..."

"Yeah. Crazy human."

"But also crazy strong..." one guard muttered, eyes flicking between the massive corpses and the madman yelling from the top.

"If he really did this solo... what the hell’s his level?"

"Think we should inform the guild leader?"

"Absolutely. But I’m not the one talking to him."

"Hey... wasn’t he also the guy who brought the wrong goblin ear to the guild?"

"Oh yeah! The one who claimed he wiped out a whole goblin settlement..."

"...But turned in left ears instead of right ones."
