Chapter 42: Don’t be stupid, son!

"It’s clear that the Vanes will be raising a case. I believe they want to use Emerson’s son to strike. Poor boy wouldn’t know they just want to use him as fuel."

Inside the Kingsleys’ mansion, the father and his heir sat in the living room, discussing.

"I slightly disagree with that, Father. Jayden might be young, but he isn’t that easy to manipulate. I have known him for years, even though we weren’t friends," Royce said to his father with a serious look.

"So who do we fear the most, then? Jayden? Luka? Kurtis? Or... Silas?" Gregory asked.

"All. All of them are a threat, and we have to start planning on how to triumph if they raise the case again," Royce stated.

"If you’ll let me, Father... I have a plan," Royce added, staring boldly into his father’s eyes to show his confidence.

"Go on," Gregory nodded.

"Since Silas Vane was part of the conspiracy you planned back then, why don’t we just expose him?" Royce said, smiling.

*PAA*

"Ouch! Dad!"

"You fool... Don’t you have some sense of reasoning? Don’t you know I’d be directly exposing myself as well? It would reveal that I truly set Emerson up, and I’d be in jail for the rest of my life," Gregory said, his voice tense as he frowned at his son with a look of disdain.

That was really a terrible idea.

"You’re twenty-three, but your sense of reasoning is just as similar to that of an eleven-year-old. Tch," Gregory added with a scoff.

"It’s okay, Dad. I’ll surely find another way... You have to trust me," Royce hesitated and smiled.

"I would have to think twice before following any of your plans. Dry head," Gregory scoffed again.

Royce’s jaw dropped, suddenly turning sad, and from sadness, it switched to anger.

He attempted to leave the room, but Gregory called him back.

"Where do you think you’re going?" he asked with a glare.

"To see my girlfriend, of course," Royce glared back.

At that point, Gregory’s face suddenly turned sour as he stood up and approached him. He clenched his fist, his face dark, and Royce just knew what that meant.

When Gregory had gotten quite close, he grabbed his son by the collar. He could have quickly hit him if he wanted to—like he had always done when Royce began to act stupid—but this time, he didn’t.

He freed his fist after a moment but still maintained his grip on the collar, then he spoke.

"How stupid are you to leave your father behind and go for ladies around when you’re needed to prepare for what’s coming?"

Royce blinked. "You didn’t need my he—"

*PAA*

Another slap came, smacking his left cheek, his eyes dilating.

"Of course your help wouldn’t be needed if you keep being a pathetic fool. How can the true heir of Kingsley Group come up with such an insensitive idea? You have to step up, son. You are not a junk. You are the future Chairman and Head of the Kingsley Family. What would happen if we lose everything? What would we have left? What would become of you and your future?" Gregory spoke, his eyes burning.

Royce stood there, his eyes sharp, like the words his father spoke were piercing through his eardrums.

"You are needed, son," Gregory added and paused. "Only a fool wouldn’t fight for what belongs to him."

After that speech, Royce suddenly felt his intent changing. He stood there in hesitation for a moment before finally nodding to his father.

Gregory patted his shoulder.

"Good. Now go contact Sinclair and Anne. They are the ones who planned the blasphemy with us, so they’ll have to join us," Gregory ordered.

With a nod, Royce went ahead to carry out the order without hesitation.

There was mainly one thing that had reawakened his desire to help his father. It wasn’t just for the sake of not having his father jailed... Nah...

It was because he wanted Kingsley Group to be his in the end.

"I will do whatever it takes to take down any threat against us. Whatever it takes," he promised himself.

Jayden was still stunned by how VIREX Coin had skyrocketed over the days. It wasn’t even up to five hundred dollars a few days ago, and now it was $10,000???

"I can’t believe this..." Jayden commented, as he couldn’t help but scratch his eyes to check if he was seeing things.

But he wasn’t...

That was no dream.

> [Surprised?]

The system suddenly voiced.

"Badly... I bought four hundred thousand VIREX Coins, and with each now $10,000, I automatically have four billion dollars!!!" Jayden’s eyes widened after coming to that realization.

> [I’m aware of that.]

The system was calm as always. Jayden had really expected an excited tone from it, but it didn’t react.

He couldn’t contain the happiness in his heart.

> [Still. You aren’t advised to trade the coins yet.]

In an instant, Jayden’s face lost all its brightness.

"What?! Are you kidding me?" Jayden glared, eyeing the interface.

> [It’s an urge. Trade it now and regret later. This is not the right time.]

Jayden’s jaw dropped.

"Why? I’m actually so rich now!" Jayden shouted, slightly frustrated.

He didn’t understand why the system had urged him not to trade the coins and get the money, but to hell with it...! This was what he had in mind.

> [Really? You think you are? I want to ask you this, Host...]

Jayden glared. "What?"

> [Are you now richer than your enemies?]

Jayden suddenly froze.

He began to think deeply, contemplating.

"Gregory’s worth is about 16 to 17 billion dollars. Crap! I don’t really trust the Vanes either and they’re worth about 7 billion dollars. They’re still well richer than I am," Jayden’s face darkened as he came to that realization.

> [You see? You have to study the art of patience, Host. If you really want to avenge your father—if you really want to rise to the top... At least for now, patience is key.]

Jayden nodded, heaving a soft sigh.

He left and went straight home after that, wondering when the right time would be to cash out. But truly, he had kept patience in mind. The main goal was to have the coins grow and not decrease... That way, patience itself would stay strong.

When Jayden got home, Temi had already prepared dinner as usual, but he didn’t go straight to eat after freshening up.

He looked at her...

Her face was dull, and he knew why.

About the egg that tasted like mud. That insult that decreased her affection.

He knew she had felt bad about it, and he had even left without her preparing another.

He knew she was sad, and perhaps angry, because she had every right to be.

"Hey," he said, when she brought out the meal. Even though she was angered, she didn’t really show it.

She wanted to leave without replying, but Jayden held her hand and pulled her to him, landing a straight kiss on her lips.

He paused after a moment and voiced,

"I’m sorry... You are the best cook in the world."

...before landing another kiss on her lips again, tightening his grip on her backside.

[Harem member Temi Grace has an update on her Affection bar.]

[Affection: 99%.]

Jayden blinked.

’Ah, that was close!’
