Chapter 43: The DEA

Task Penthouse was set.

Jayden booked the penthouse that same night, making sure it was ready for the day.

After even contacting the agent, he was told that three people had already booked the penthouse and would be there in two days.

Jayden had to do it the way of the wealthy.

[[Jayden: I can pay double the amount for the entire penthouse for the entire week.]]

[[Agent: Sir... You know we can’t disappoint them.]]

[[Jayden: How about three times the amount?]]

[[Agent: Okay, deal.]]

Jayden smiled.

He had to pay $500,000 to book the penthouse for a week, paying triple the actual amount.

It was really the power of money being displayed there... That was one of the principles of business.

One can simply dump you just because they see something or someone better.

It applies to almost everything in the world. Jayden could only smile and shrug after remembering Sofia leaving him for Royce.

His e-ticket was sent directly to him immediately after he made the payment, and what was left was for the action to begin.

Tomorrow, he would move to the penthouse with Camillia being the first lady to visit. That was a smart one, since Camillia was literally the first lady he wanted, naturally...

Being frank, Jayden had always liked the Frost lady more than any woman he had met since breaking up with Sofia.

Thus, he had to notify Temi about it—not directly... No way.

He had to lie, again. Since the harem progress wasn’t strong enough now.

"Hey, sweetie," Jayden said.

They had both had dinner and were about to go to bed.

"Hmm?" Temi raised her head from his chest with an almost sleepy look on her face.

"Just wanted to tell you I’ll be out for a week," he said, rubbing her shoulder.

Temi quickly jolted awake after hearing that, and she threw a sharp gaze.

"What? Why? Where are you going?" she asked, her eyes curious.

"An important business trip. You know, my new company has a project going on, so we have to carry out some things," he replied, making sure to look sincere.

"Ugh, babe... Why not send someone else... your Ambassador? Your Manager... Anyone?" Temi instantly expressed her disapproval of it...

"No... No, Temi. I just got to the company, and I kinda have trust issues with all of them. I haven’t trusted anyone yet, and you see, the company was in deep debt before I got it... Who knows if the problem actually came from them?" Jayden said.

Temi still didn’t buy that.

She didn’t want to...

But he didn’t look like he was changing his mind.

She also thought about it and had to let go. She loved him very much and surely wanted him to succeed, so she had to do what was right, which was to let him go.

She had no choice anyway... freeweɓnovēl.coɱ

"I’ll miss you," she slumped on his chest and sobbed a little, but Jayden cuddled her away to sleep.

As soon as she slept, he went straight to making research and more findings about AI Cores and unique car construction methods that made them stand out.

Even though that was the slightest of efforts since the system already had plans to reveal...

However, that was when the challenges would come.

Creating a type of car that had never been made before was one of the hardest things possible.

Monarch Café had been blooming, rising as the number one in all of Cloudbridge City.

Melinda even went ahead to employ some other workers, though Reece, Harper, and George were still the seniors.

Monarch Café had now become more than just a café. It was a vibe, a sanctuary... a rising brand that had started drawing attention in ways Melinda never expected.

She was adjusting the glass jar of rose petals beside the payment terminal when the bell above the door jingled. Two men walked in... Not regulars, not hipsters, not the usual office crowd... She wondered how they managed to pass the crowd to get in here.

Their stride was too firm, too rehearsed. The taller one wore a grey suit with the sleeves rolled just enough to show a scarred wrist. His partner was broader, a little slower, but the intensity in his eyes said more than enough.

Melinda felt it. Everyone felt it. The air changed.

"Good afternoon," she greeted, trying to keep her tone light, rehearsed. "Table for two?"

The taller man flashed a badge.

"We are officers from the DEA. We’re not here for coffee."

Time stopped for a second. Reece, who was playfully teasing a customer at the corner table, paused.

Harper looked up from the counter, foam still dripping from the milk frother. George, lounging by the glass wall with a cinnamon roll, straightened up like he had just heard gunfire.

Melinda blinked. "Is... there a problem?"

The shorter officer, Agent Lyle, stepped forward. "We’ve received three independent reports claiming your café is serving coffee with an illegal additive."

Melinda’s brows creased. "Excuse me?"

The taller one, Agent Rivas, didn’t blink.

"Specifically, a combination of cocaine and an unlisted botanical compound. Said to soften the kick, extend the dopamine surge, and improve the flavor."

Reece muttered under his breath. "That’s gotta be a joke..."

George stood up and walked slowly toward the counter. "What kind of nonsense is that? You’re accusing us of dealing coke in a café?"

"Not dealing," Lyle corrected coolly. "Serving. In small doses. But it’s still illegal."

Melinda held up both hands slightly, trying to center herself. "We don’t use anything illegal in our drinks. We’ve always used clean suppliers."

Harper walked around the bar, placing herself beside Melinda. "You’re gonna need more than rumors to walk in here with that kind of energy," she said, her face stern.

"We have sample results," Rivas said, pulling out a transparent evidence bag. Inside it was a crumpled white paper cup... Monarch Café’s signature print clearly visible.

"Traces of a compound derived from cocaine, combined with an exotic derivative we haven’t identified yet... We traced three customers who independently reported addictive symptoms."

Melinda’s eyes widened slightly, and for the first time, she looked worried.

"I think I know what it might be," she said quickly, reaching beneath the counter. "Just a moment."

She returned with the delicate golden flower, carefully preserved in a tiny glass box. Its petals shimmered under the lighting, unnaturally soft, like velvet soaked in honey.

"This," she said, "was given to me by my boss. Jayden Cole. He brought it two weeks ago from his collection. He said it could be a good flavor enhancer. We only infused it into a few batches—limited trial."

Agent Rivas took the box. The two men examined the flower like it was a ticking device.

Lyle looked at her. "Where exactly did he get it from?"

"I don’t know," Melinda replied honestly. "He just... said it was rare. I didn’t question it. He’s the boss."

Agent Rivas sighed and reached into his inner pocket. "We’re going to need you to come with us. For questioning. It’s procedure. You’re the acting manager here."

"What?!" Reece snapped, stepping forward.

Harper placed a hand on Melinda’s arm. "She hasn’t done anything wrong. She’s not even the owner."

George’s voice rose, frustration in every syllable. "You guys can’t just walk in here and—"

"You’re not being arrested," Lyle cut in firmly, "but we need clarity. And she’s the only one who’s admitted to handling the substance."

"I can call my boss," Melinda offered.

Rivas shook his head. "Sure, but you still have to come with us for further questioning. Your boss would join us as well."

Melinda glanced at her workers, then back at the agents. There was no point resisting. The tide was moving too fast.

"Alright," she swallowed hard and nodded.

Reece’s fists were clenched, not believing she was agreeing to go with them. Harper could only give her sweet boss a slight nod of strength.

George, on the other hand, looked like he was one second away from calling someone dangerous, but he had to be calm with the DEA.

As Melinda followed them out of the building, the weight of her decision settled on her shoulders. The flower... the taste boost... the customer hype.

Had it gone too far? she thought.

She didn’t know yet.

But one thing was clear.

This wasn’t just about flavor anymore. Monarch Café was now on the radar.

And the game might have changed.
