Chapter 90: A Promise In The Wind

Arc 2, Chapter 90 — A Promise In The Wind

.

.

Time seemed to strict unnaturally, each second hanging in the air.

The scene was set.

In retrospect to the enemy, the boy seemed to be the size of any ant, stared upwards at the massive group of soaring tentacles surrounding him in all directions.

Levon’s face only showed a momentary crack, despite his heavy breathing and sweaty appearance. Then his fingers began to dance on the hilt of his Katana briskly revealed itself.

’... 30 seconds... let’s make it count.’

Time no longer froze in place as the guttural roars erupted from the tentacles.

Grahhhhhh!!!

Things moved as everyone expected, with all heads surging towards their prey in unison in a tidal wave of imminent death.

It was brutal! Even Hendrix felt that his heart might fall into his belly if he were the one in Levon’s shows.

’Come on, Belmont... show us what you’re made of.’ Many muttered in their hearts, taking a final glimpse into Levon’s potential Victory or Death.

Whoosh!

Standing in the same spot, Levon twisted his upper body, allowing his Katana to move like a viper.

All out... All out... He, Levon Belmont, was ready to go all out! ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com

His Katana sang through the air, slicing through the molecular atoms with lethal intent. And just when his attack was ready to land its mark— something changed.

This...

The Tentacles... they’re... eh? Why were they suddenly recoiling?

Levon froze mid-strike, his chest heaving as he tried to wake sense of the bizarre turn of events.

The tentacles had stopped a good distance from him, swaying ominously but not advancing further... as though fearful. But why?

Levon would never be so narcissistic to think it was because of him.

What’s going on?

Several people fighting, also had the same reaction as Levon.

Could this be the power of aura, the strong carry? Bah!

What bloody aura did this Levon have to drive so many tentacles away now? They rather eat their own shit than believe it.

’It must be something else...’ Many concluded. How can they accept that someone they called Trash could drive so many tentacles away from just his aura?

Well, Levon agreed with their thoughts for the most part.

It’s definitely something else that’s causing these tentacles to stay away. But what?

.

.

Groooo~

The tentacles still advanced and retreated all around Levon.

Scanning his surroundings, his eyes fall into a peculiar garden bush behind him.

It looked very ordinary and plain, something even he would brush his eyes over. It was not noteworthy and seemed like an everyday bush anyone can find outside the walls of the order.

’Could it be the reason?’

Levon calmly broke off a leafy branch the length of a toothpick; and after carefully scrutinizing the piece, he flicked it towards one of the tentacles.

Sure enough, his hunch was right. The tentacle moved backwards like a demon avoiding Holy water.

Oh?

"The great philosopher Areepodio was right. The Eyes are indeed the most deceiving." Levon muttered to himself. "This plant is definitely not ordinary."

How could it be when its presence alone kept repelling the encroaching tentacles?

As for whether it was poisonous or not, Levon had long been in contact with it even before he discovered its use.

After stumbling and falling into this strange bush, do you know how many times his face, hands and other parts have brazed themselves against the plant’s leaves?

Till now, he had no reaction.

The look in Levon’s eyes became subtle when cutting off a few more twigs.

"So that’s it..."

Several people soon brought their fights towards Levon’s way.

In no time, the gang of Bloodren 10s snapped and snapped, turned the bushy foliage into a barren stick.

Good.

The tension eased slightly as they realized they were safe, as the plant’s presence was a mystery but also a relief—a sanctuary amidst chaos.

Now, the group of Bloodrens were walked coolly amid the ferocious plants, some with their hands on their pockets, others skipping playfully, some with their plans clasped behind their heads, and others just walking in various WALKETS.

{**Walket was the term young people gave to the different ways people walked.}

It was quite an intriguing scene.

"Luckily we didn’t waste our chance by trying to escape to the gates as we earlier did." One of them chuckled at their good fortune.

If they were alone, who knows if such a thing would have ever gotten discovered?

What’s more, running away all the time is indeed never an effective tactic.

As mentioned before, what if tomorrow, their only way out is through the dense forest of tentacles? Going in alone was with no way out or immunity, was definitely suicidal.

Don’t forget that the toxins in each tentacle’s bite was enough to kill them in minutes.

Heh.

Now, they were basically strolling out unhurriedly... their only concerns were avoiding the spillage of hot boiling tar that erupted and spewed their way from time to time.

Funny enough, the tar didn’t burn the tentacles.

Everyone now felt that the backyard they were very used to seeing in the daylight, housed such a peculiar gathering of plants—Plants that lived in strange symbiosis with each other.

Shugo examined the plant closely, noting its unusual characteristics.

"It looks simple, no it’s not. I’ve never seen anything like it," he admitted.

It was a lie to say that Shugo wasn’t shocked out of his boots.

"Everyone, leaf veins can either be Reticulate or Parallel."

Reticulated veins resembled stretched out bets, like that of the human veins.

Parallel veins on the other hand, are those that run parallel to each other along the leaf’s vein.

In fact, Parallel veins were the most common vein types everyone knows of. But these ones...

Shugo frowned.

"These don’t make any sense."

On closer inspection, this was a vein pattern never seen before. In fact, such a pattern completely subverts his understanding of Biology.

.

.

Groooooo~

The plants stupidly lashed forward and retracted themselves against and again.

They looked like dogs barking and snapping in retreat. But no matter how much they wanted a taste of the humans walking by, they dared not take any step further.

Levon and the others soon reached the massive Gates that kept swarming with creepy crawling tentacle plants it locked.

Sorry, but they were no longer frightened.

As expected, the plants fled the doors with the money they approached.

This time it was Yimu and the Punk-Haired Bloodren who used their shards to open the Gates. By the way... his name was Viren... Viren Delace.

With the poison eradicated within him, he had long returned to tiptop shape.

Heheheheheh~

He laughed in a low voice, as he and everyone else now found themselves standing outside their ’Prison.’

The outside air felt fresh, perhaps because of the success they now achieved. The vast lands stared them in the face, with the soft rustling of grass blades underneath their feet.

3:30 AM.

The moon was bright, the lands looked mythical, and distant calls of wildlife rumbled from afar.

"Well, it feels good..." Levon muttered, his attention now slowly turning towards a particular direction.

There it was again... the slumbering noise.

’It won’t be long before I find out just what sort of slumbering creature you are...’

That was a PROMISE!
