Chapter 85: A Decisive Night

Arc 2, Chapter 85 — A Decisive Night

.

.

The crackling fire casted jagged shadows across the space.

BARBEQUE!

It smelled so good. The hues from the fire danced in the faces of the hungry youths.

Many who had missed supper, couldn’t help wetting their lips in anticipation. Even those who ate supper, felt their tummies gurgle.

However, despite the heat emitting from the barbecued chicken-rhino creature, a chill still lingered in the air, a reminder of their rebellious situation.

It was past 11 PM, and they were supposed to be asleep.

Oh well...So long as they didn’t trigger any alarms, who is to say they weren’t in their beds right now?

Even if Clara came over, she would act as though they were invisible.

Why? Because they haven’t given themselves off.

They grouped in another corner of the enormous entryway space, positioning themselves before the fireplace that looked like it could hold a witch’s cauldron.

The Rhino chicken was now twirling on a rod above the grand fireplace.

After cleanup and inspection, Clara had left them to their privacy. It had been such a thrilling day. Yet, even those who didn’t get along didn’t feel the urge to rush to bed tonight.

In a corner, Hendrix held out another book Levon hadn’t seen him with.

’Must be new.’

Hendrix sat on a couch, positioning his body in a manner that evades the peculiar invisible lights meant to detect their presence.

As for Ignier, his ever trusty companion, he was punching against an invisible opponent. Does this guy ever not workout?

Well, it was one hell of a party. Almost everyone was minding their business.

Floriana and her group were also in another corner. Familiar faces and groups all lingered up and about in close vicinity.

Looking around, everyone except Victorio’s group was here.

.

.

It didn’t take long for their barbeque to cook up real nicely.

Soon their eyes gleamed in surprise.

So good...

It took a great ordeal to sneak this chicken in, but not without precaution.

Was it edible? Was it poisonous? They had done their fair share of research to get to this point.

The atmosphere was tense yet oddly serene, a paradox that seemed to suit the peculiar gathering.

The breaths of the many Bloodren 10s mingled with the smoke, forming ghostly wisps that danced upward into the grand ceilings.

"I know everyone has been thinking the same thing."

It was Natalia Amborgina who spoke. She was one of the 2 new members Floriana recruited.

Her ghostly appearance and thin silhouette was buried underneath her enormous peacock green Haori.

Very slowly, she lifted the corners of her frail ginger-lipstick stained lips.

Each word she slithered like a serpent, down the ears of many.

She had an evil look to her, a menacing one that looked villainous and sneaky.

That was just how her face was. She always looked this way.

"I know you all think it too." She continued. "I’m talking about what lays beyond the doors at night."

Pop!

Shugo’s blown out bubblegum popped.

Make no mistake, everyone knew exactly what she was talking about.

"I agree," Hendrix spoke softly but audibly.

He slowly closed his book and pushed his glasses in, adjusting his position on the elegant aristocratic couch he was on.

"Look at us...Each and everyone of us, are not people who can remain trapped in our own homes without a way out."

"True," Floriana replied, shocking many who were used to seeing her asleep all the time.

What? She’s awake?

Floriana had no clue what her appearance had done to the group.

"Until we get transferred or sent out, be it in a day, a year or 2, this place is now our HOME. However... we’ve mastered the ability to move about freely after lights out, within the mansion."

But what about crossing the main doors to the gates?

Let’s get one thing STRAIGHT.

Each of them had their own pride, and couldn’t possibly stay trapped in their own home because of some bloody rules.

They can accept that they don’t have to leave the Order’s walls without permission. But... they will never accept being cooked up and kept as prisoners in their own HOMES.

Impossible!

The moment the Order gave them this mansion to live in, it meant the building and its enclosed space was all theirs for the time being.

Almost all of them were used to doing things in the NIGHT.

The night was their domain—a canvas painted with endless possibilities that most rules gave way for. In conclusion, the night was the best time to move and get some personal matters done. But with so many death traps and triggers around, they had to reign in their haughtiness in the past.

However... Now that they were more or less strong in their own right, it was time to do the things they wished to do in the dark.

Even the weakling, Levon, could hold his own fort for sometime. So why not test the waters a bit more?

Levon’s lashes fluttered thoughtfully when staring at the mansion’s doors.

’With everyone here, we definitely have a better chance at figuring out how to escape through the Estate’s gates after Lights out.’

Only in this way, did Levon feel he’d have the chance to sneak out on his own in the dead of night, to explore the Forbidden forest—Home to the strange slumbering noise that’s been plaguing him every day and night.

It wasn’t just Levon who thought this way, but several others who had a few personal matters to sneak out and take care of.

They’ve indeed conquered the placements of all invisible triggers inside the mansion. But what about the outdoor space leading to the gates?

Many eyes flashed thoughtfully, as they now slowly rose to their feet.

Levon placed a lollipop in his mouth, while Floriana rose like a sleepy zombie despite her awakened state. Yimu, Rita, Natalia and another girl, Rolo, also stood beside her.

Shugo blew a large bubblegum, and Leo had his palms behind his hand carelessly.

Artilla had a cold expression and Rayna smirked playfully.

Hendrix pushed his glasses in, Ignier smashed his fists together, and their comrades also stood beside them lazily.

All Bloodren 10s here, rose without hesitation, staring at the doors before them deeply.

.

.

Well, the meal was good. But not as tempting as the possibility of Freedom.

Staring at the Mansion’s doors, they were a little cautious.

The double-sided doors were staring them in the face, yet many sensed the probability of using it successfully after Lights out was quite low.

"Our windows are out of the question too," Artilla added, recalling how she had once used her Whip shard abilities to pry it open after 11 PM.

But the moment it sensed force prying, countless thick metallic sheets swished in and barricaded the room.

Then, the familiar voice echoed, and the lights in her dormitory then turned red. However, it was only in HER dormitory and nowhere else.

[Warning, Warning, Force Entry Detected. All inmates are detected to be asleep... Warning, Warning, Force Entry Detected. All inmates are detected to be asleep.]

No one was punished since everyone was Detected to be asleep, despite Rayna and Artilla clearly jumping around like ninja’s to avoid the dramatic laser changes that they triggered.

It wasn’t till morning that the Red lights and the barricade shades on the windows vanished. The following night, things were as they typically were.

In conclusion, they can’t escape via the windows after Lights Out.

A few people nodded in agreement, having gone through the same thing too. People like them have long experimented in their own rooms to find ways out.

They’ve also tried windows of various corners in this place to no avail. What was more insane, was that there were no other exit doors they’ve seen, except the main door before them. This place was like a formidable fortress, with one way in and one way out.

Tick-Tock. Tick-Tock.

Silence flooded the scene, as everyone observed a brief moment of quietness.

Levon’s eyes swished left and right.

’Now that we’re many, our success rate will be higher.’

Even when playing chess, pawns must use their pawns to test an opponent’s strength. Levon knew that given his current strength, almost everyone would agree for him to be a pawn.

—But who said being a pawn was always a bad thing? Besides, who is to say who the real disposable chess piece will be this early on in the game?

The air was tense and heavy, with many rambling on about what exits they tried and what uncharted locations awaited them to search.

Fufufufu~

Such a scene made him laugh. Already, he figured out the enemy’s first move on this chess board... and he had to say, it was darn brilliant.

"My, my, my... how low we’ve fallen."

Oh?

Hendrix, Floriana and several others froze.

What does he mean?

They narrowed their eyes dangerously. To say they’ve fallen...is more insulting than any rampant curse many rambling idiots dish their way.

But before they could feel provocation, surprise also flashed through their pupils when seeing Levon walked towards the massive double-sided door.

"Don’t you understand?" The corner’s of Levon’s lips stretched unnaturally. "This is a psychological attack.... One involving FEAR."
