Chapter 71: A Good Mood

Arc 2, Chapter 71 — A Good Mood.

.

.

There was a certain darkness about this place that made the heat climb to their faces.

There was no missing the anticipation in their gaze.

What a massive place. The entire space made them feel small.

Very casually, Levon unraveled a strawberry Lollipop from his pockets and swirled it around his tongue.

Looking ahead, he spotted a massive opening built for giants.

And on it, was an even massive Plague that could be read from great distances.

Prison of the Unholy—Those were the words scribbled on the plaque.

Despite the appearance of Torches lit with fire, the place was still 90% dark in Levon’s mind.

"Keep up." Winhest’s words woke them from their stupor.

Passing underneath the gigantic opening, they walked for no more than 10 minutes across the dimly illuminated space till they reached a sharp cliff.

"Bro, are we in Batman’s cave or something?"

"No... this is definitely 50 times bigger than Batman’s cave, right?"

Shugo and Leo scratched their heads in awe when looking at the open space. The bottom was invisible—swallowed by an eternal void, and the ceiling stretched beyond sight into a cathedral of darkness.

Why can’t they see the ceiling? And why can’t they see the floor?

The bottom that looked endless and the top that also looked endless.

Many were blown away by the vast cavern illuminated by flickering otherworldly flames that casted eerie shadows on the jagged circular edge.

Whoosh~

A few torches lit up with fire after sensing their presence... Yet they still couldn’t see what was far, far on the other side.

"Get on." Winhest was referring to the many Railway crates that slowly came to a halt before them.

What?

Levon was taken aback, not even noticing there were tracks attached to the cliff’s curved edges slightly below them. These tracks were attached to the walls.

Without hesitation, the group jumped off the cliff and into several crates. And then, they were off again, moving along the jagged walls. At times they went high, and at other times, they went low.

Fortunately, it only took 28 minutes for the crates to come to a halt.

"Buddy... look."

"Yeah." Levon nodded, as the group observed that the tracks didn’t just stop here, but continued on.

If their hunch was right, this stop should only be for Ghouls, the weakest vampire Rank of all.

.

.

At their stop, the group followed Winhest, used their shards to head up to the extended cliffside above them.

Then they headed down a cavernous stairway, venturing into yet another open clearing with tunnels again.

They picked the furthest one from the left, walking through its silence till they came face to face with several other giant doors.

"What a confusing Labyrinth." A few muttered.

"This is the end of your trip." Winhest acknowledged, gesturing at the many giant doors before them. "Each door leads to a confinement of Level 1 Ghouls... However, the Types are different. For today, we’ll talk Tactics—Tactics on dealing with all 6 Types."

And what better way is there to explain than showing?

"Let’s start with lucky door number 1, shall we?"

Winhest’s words broke smiles on their faces.

Great! A demonstration from their instructor?

Everyone chuckled softly. It’s really rare.

At the same time, a dangerous thought brooding in their hearts, many wanting to see just how effective his Paper ability was against a Ghoul.

Paper?... Isn’t that a weak element on the battlefield?

Some with flashy Shards inwardly felt they should be better off than Winhest.

"Instructor, I think we can handle them far better than you." One of them spoke out, when thinking of how many Ghouls she had slain during each night drill.

Hmph!

Except for that first time of receiving punishment, don’t think it will be that easy to trick here again.

She had a count war with one of her friends. And both of them alone have taken out a total of 73 Ghouls.

Additionally, her shard power was a sickle—An incredible elegant hook with a long handle.

No matter how she looked at it, her sickle was far superior to Winhest’s Paper!

Oh?

Winhest slowly turned around, his expression still the same. Yet, Levon and several others could tell that his aura had changed.

"Be careful now." His voice was soft, but dripping with venomous amusement. "Little rodent, your arrogance is unbecoming... especially for prey."

Fufufufufufu~

Winhest led them through Door 1 and through a left turn that led them to what looked like a viewing room.

Then he left, allowing them to wallow in silence.

"What a fool," Hendrix spoke calmly, pushing his glasses in.

"What did you say, Pretty Poy?" The girl from earlier snapped, not afraid of Hendrix one bit.

She admitted he was strong, but in her opinion, not that much.

Payne, who was working out, quickly got on his feet and stood beside Hendrix menacingly, like the true bodyguard he was.

"What a joke" Hendrix spoke with obvious disdain. "At this point, you still don’t get it? It’s not about what type of weapon your Shard is, but about the pile it comes from."

A higher pile equals higher mutation capabilities. So what does it matter if Winhest’s shard is paper or not?

Hendrix turned a page from his box, no longer focusing his attention on a moron like her. "You hide behind your former reputation in the outside world, but it won’t save you here."

"Your past is blank once here, but you don’t seem to get it... It amuses me the mist, is your nauseous confidence that your pathetic sickle can ever compare with his paper."

"Tell me... aren’t you a fool?"

"YOU!—" The grill turned a hideous shade of red, her eyes glowing with murderous intent the more she listened.

"Are you still too daft to grasp this fact?" Hendrix cut her off, closely closing the book in his hand. "Normally, I wouldn’t bother with the likes of you, after all, your idiotic thoughts have nothing to do with me.... However, your idiotic thoughts keep making things worse for me. But..."

Hendrix’s eyes turned frosty. "Where you and I will have a problem... is if your stupidity will make me lose an opportunity like todays!"

Who is Winhest? Even Hendrix was careful around this guy, just so he could continue teaching them. Do you know how rare a day like this is?

Winhest had told them that the reason he took them this far out, was because he was in a GOOD MOOD.

That’s to say in normal times, he would have just briefly told them about the Ghoul types in his regular fashion.

And here this moron comes, trying to MESS things up for him, who had Winhest in his rare good moods!

Levon’s mouth also sharpened into a dangerous slit... His smile... his eyes... everything said he wished to throw this girl off a CLIFF!

Suddenly, a figure caught Levon’s eyes through the viewing screen.

IT WAS WINHEST... standing far below the space wit a floating torch following above him.

Well now...

Levon smirked generously.

’It seems the demonstration is about to start.’
