Chapter 70: A Wild Journey

Arc 2, Chapter 70 — A Wild Journey

.

.

They say life is but a Cradle flame... one that can be sniffed out by the darkness in its bosoms.

Life in its fleeting Brilliance, often held a hunger that consumed its brightness.

Winhest calmly gestured at the massive crates with a faint smile lining his lips. Need he say more?

Moments later, the group sat in silence, their bodies pressed against the cold metal confines of the interconnected Railway Crates.

It was fascinating how spacious each crate was, with each crate holding 5~7 people. Yet there was enough room to maneuver from one end to another.

The crates were waist-length, allowing many to prop themselves on the edge. They sat on the edge, allowing their feet to dangle inside the crates.

ALL BOARD!~

Winhest’s familiar Paper Shard pulled a Lever with deliberate motion.

’It’s starting...’

Levon felt the crate he was in lurch forward towards the 11 0’Clock tunnel.

His lips were dry, and his eyes continually peered into the darkness promised within the tunnel’s enclosure. What to expect?

The air grew heavier as the group embarked. The journey through the tunnel started slowly. And while in the tunnel, harsh lights illuminated their faces, as though they were undergoing security checks.

The lights touched every corner, even underneath the crates. Levon had never seen anything brighter. But this wasn’t the end.

One moment they passed through a giant bubble that looked like it was about to pop, and the next... they passed through a swarm of strange locusts.

What was the purpose of these Locusts? Were they supposed to detect something?

With scrutiny, Levon observed the many mutated 2-headed locusts hopping on his thighs, his body, and inside the crate.

From Locusts to butterflies to slimes... you name it. 47 minutes were spent on checks.

Levon chuckled knowingly. In fact, everyone else had the same thoughts, only making them wonder where exactly they were heading for.

All this time, the crates had been going at snail-pace... extremely slow.

But after the security checks came to an end, it suddenly quickened its pace without warning, almost causing a few to fall over.

Whoosh!!

The speed was insane. Wasn’t this bullet speed?

The pace had quickened so much with unrelenting velocity.

Dammit, their ears were about to explode. The winds roared like a Banshee’s wail, threatening to rip them apart if they let it.

No! This can’t go on.

"Artilla," Levon bellowed. "Start."

"Right!"

Without hesitation, Artilla unfurled and enlarged her Fan Shard, bracing against the onslaught of winds at their cart’s partition. freēwēbnovel.com

Even though they were at the very last cart, things weren’t easy for them. One must understand that these carts were moving at speeds no train, cart, or land modes of transportation could move.

How it still managed to stay locked in its tracks was beyond them. But then again, don’t you see the place they’re in, in the place?

.

.

GRRRR~

Levon felt his muscles stiffen, as he tried keeping himself from falling off. He was gritting his teeth and holding on so tight that blood began to drip from the corner of his lips.

"Artilla, rest!... Leo.."

"Got it."

Leo took over, enlarging his card and doing the same.

Turn by turn, they all used their ability to deflect the fierce winds and forces coming their way. It wasn’t just them, but everyone else in the crates ahead.

Fortunately, the battle was over after One (1) grueling hour of high speed travel... the crates finally showed signs of slowing.

Pfft.

Everyone looked like rats dipped in oil. Their clothes were drenched with sweat, their hairs were standing alert—pointing to the skies, and their clothes ruffled and out of shape.

Well, except for Winhest, they looked to be in dire need of a hairstylist and a proper bath.

Levon ran his hands through his hair, as did many others.

"Where are we?"

Levon murmured, taken aback by his surroundings that defied comprehension.

Wasn’t that Magma?

Looking at the hot sizzling molten lava far below the suspended tracks, Levon was once again perplexed by the bizarreness of this place.

’It’s so hot.’

Many muttered inwardly, feeling the magma’s heat from this high above.

Just where are they on the Global map?

No mountain can be this much internally. IMPOSSIBLE!

They spent another 50 minutes travelling at a steady pace above the seas of magma.

Following that, they passed through a freezing land that quenched their heat and sent shivers across their bodies.

Another 30 minutes there... before they travelled through a dark tunnel with more rigorous checks than the first time.

In conclusion, they spent an additional 73 minutes before reaching their final destinations.

Phew~

What a tiresome journey. Many were exhausted.

Levon’s eyes mobbed like darts.

Again, he couldn’t see any cameras. Still, he knew that somehow... their every move was being monitored in all angles and directions.

But why was this important?

After dismounting, many looked at their new surroundings with enquiry. There were others going in and out... but only a handful.

"Curious, are you?" Winhest grinned with a cunning swirl in his eyes. "Don’t think too much. This, my dear abandoned pupils, is a Vampiric Prison. And let me be the first to say that should any of you get beaten or infected while here... sorry, there’s no escaping this place."

Do you think the security is there to keep people from going in? No.

On the contrary, it’s there to keep those in, from going OUT.

This...

Everyone thinned their lips thoughtfully.

One bite, one infectious wound... and they will become the damned.

Following Winhest, they passed through a vast entrance passageway, before reaching an opening that made them feel as though they were ants standing in a dog’s house.

This isn’t an exaggeration.

The cave-like walls looked to be as tall as 40 stories high. The pace was even bigger than one could imagine, and could possibly hold 10,000 people here.

There was gloom and the ominous forbearing of death wherever one turned. Yet, the expressions of the majority, wasn’t that of fear, but that of anticipation.

My, my, my...

Fufufufufu~

Levon had to admit he liked this place more and more.
