Arc 2, Chapter 69 — Pop Quiz!

The atmosphere was suffocating, so thick with unease like the moments before a storm.

The ball was set, and the atmosphere was struggling. Yet no one paused, running their hands feverishly across the papers with ultimate focus.

Their task was clear and failure was definitely not an option.

Winhest cut through the silence the instant they were told to start. "You have just 10 minutes."

’Just 10 minutes?’

This thought jerked in the subconscious of many who now leaned in so close they almost kissed their sheets.

Levon felt he had never drawn so fast in his life. His eyes were like cameras, zooming in and zooming out of everything he sketched.

At times, he closed his eyes, allowing his mind to race back to a particular Ghoul type he encountered on multiple Night Drills.

His memory was still vivid.

The grotesque stench of decaying flesh, hollow raps breathing, falling body parts, a parasitic worm embedded in its heart... Levon could recall it all.

He could still see its tongue lolling from its unnaturally widened and broken mouth even in his sleep.

’Exterior and Interior...’

Levon reminded himself.

For him, its outer body was the easiest to Sketch. But when it came to his insides, Levon had to think deeply about the battle that first night.

’It should be like this...’

Guided by a mix of instincts and memory, Levon’s hands moved faster than usual; and the more they moved, the more confident he was.

Soon—

~Swoosh.

The papers flew off their tables, stopped in suspended animation above their heads. Then the words and sketches they’d painstakingly scribbled quickly dissolved and now vanished, leaving only blank papers behind.

"Time’s up."

Winhest announced. At the same time, he momentarily closed his eyes, seemingly connecting with every piece floating above.

There was silence within the space, as everyone knew he must be going through all the answers they gave.

Come to think of it, Instructor Winhest’s abilities were amazing. A simple paper shard could do so many things.

They only wished to see if it was as strong in battle, as it was in aiding with daily boring activities.

Some people thought it should be powerful, while others still felt it should be just okay.

"Tch. I don’t think it’s that great." A few whispered.

"It’s true that he might be high up there in ranks, but it doesn’t change his Shard is PAPER! Com’n!... Don’t you think swords are cooler and stronger than paper?"

"True. Even a bow and arrow should be far better than paper. When you really think about it, who goes to the battle with paper?"

In their opinion, even Hendrix’s Pointy pen Shard was far better than better than Paper.

As some murmured, Winhest slowly opened his eyes.

"Congratulations," He tilted his head, seemingly disappointed. "It’s a shame that you’ve all passed." Wouldn’t it be better to lower your numbers down again?"

"_"

"That being said, the lowest amongst you scored 80 percent, on the dot."

As Winhest spoke, the suspended papers floating swayed back down, dancing like a falling leaf, riding on the back of a slow summer breeze.

94 on a hundred.

Levon exhaled sharply when he saw his score. Levon had to admit that he felt better about himself after seeing his tally. Then, a rare smile tugged his lips.

"Not bad." Shugo muttered with a shrug, glancing at his own tally of 92.

"94." Artilla softly announced.

Rayna was happy for Artilla. "I got a 92 as well."

"93." Leo added. "Tch– I thought of the first Ghoul I took down on my own... Looks like it paid off."

The group nodded deeply, thinking of the Ghouls they remembered the most. Remembrance comes from blood-soaked battles every Night Drill.

"Well, the results were inevitable." Leo added.

"That’s right. We’ve been discussing the strengths and weaknesses of the Ghouls for weeks now."

Although everything they thought of was just their guesses, doesn’t their high scores prove they were on the right track?

Before Winhest had brought this matter up, everyone had more or less talked about what makes each Ghoul type they’ve seen unique.

To avoid Resident Punishment every Drill Night, they had to understand the enemies coming their way. The faster they understood them, the swifter they could eliminate their targets—It was that simple.

.

.

The results were out.

Many spoke arrogantly, showcasing their high scores.

No one had actually gone above 96%. Most people scored between 84% and 87%. A few fell below this mark... and the special ones scored above 87%.

Winhest straightened from where he stood, no longer leaning against his desk.

Why the sudden change?

The group tensed instinctively, perhaps due to familiarity with the Winhest’s many ominous sides.

Then, it happened—a familiar rumbling that sent their desks and seats rattling violently.

Winhest’s left brow raised high when everyone took off into the air after they felt the changes.

"Your response is a lot faster than your previous times..." Although not impressive enough. This was his opinion.

As usual, the benches and seats vanished into the wall. But this time, the ’usual’ doors of the Abyss they were used to, did not raise open.

’What’s going on?’ Levon felt weird when seeing the main classroom door bolt shut without warning.

THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE!

Following this, It didn’t take long for Levon and everyone to feel his center of gravity off.

The Room was rotating. But how?

Everyone knew such thoughts were unbelievable, but reality proved it true.

Levon felt his stomach lurch as gravity shifted beneath him.

11 seconds was all it took for his center of gravity to return to its original state.

Then came a definitive thud—a low rumble that grew into a deafening roar.

Finally, the familiar Doorway they were familiar with appeared. And the next thing everyone knew, they were staring at the familiar split on the wall they were used to.

It was an Abyss, the dark abyss that seemed to be endless. fгeewebnovёl.com

But where are they going to now?

Everyone’s heart throbbed with excitement.

Just when they thought they’ve seen it all, this place always has a way of surprising them even more.

.

.

A door leading to the Abyss. This wasn’t new. However...

Levon frowned thoughtfully.

’It’s not the same.’

He could tell it wasn’t the same Path they typically ventured. For one thing, the entryway was in the wrong position.

This wasn’t the path used when falling down the massive disc... So after feeling the room’s rotation, the question now was: what’s behind this Lucky gateway number 2?

Winhest ’s voice disrupted Levon’s thoughts.

"As many of you have guessed, today’s lecture will eat up quite a lot of time. You could say, today was one of those rare teaching days... That said, I’m in no mood to babysit. So keep up."

KEEP UP!

These words caused movement from all. Levon found that his feet were obedient, moving forward before his brain could react.

As expected, the abyss was Pitch Black and a little echoey.

2 hours 11 minutes in, they reached a narrow stairway made of stony bricks.

"Water?" Shugo was taken aback, feeling the dampness underneath his boots.

The stairs were wet and damp, absorbing moisture from the humid air.

Unlike the many paths they ventured into with Winhest, this one was quite narrow and compact. Stretching his hand, Levon felt the sturdy structures surrounding them.

’Are we in a medieval sewer?’

It sure felt like it. But more importantly, does this stairway end? They’ve been on it for an additional 24 minutes... making their total travel time being 2 hours and 35 minutes.

Finally, they reached the bottom, arriving at an ancient Stony wall concave with Torches against the walls.

~Streak!

Winhest’s shards struck hard against the damp surfaces, creating sparks of fire that lit a single torch.

"A dungeon?"

Looking around the now widened space, Levon knew there was no mistaking it.

They were in a dungeon... But why?

Treep, Treep, Treep~

The sounds of slow dripping water made the silence all but defeating.

With a torch floated ahead, the group followed Winhest with thoughts of their own, soon reaching a rather massive circular clearing.

Compared to the path leading here, the stone bricks lining the floors and walls were smaller and more compact.

Looking at their feet, everyone frowned.

The dampness was more evident here, with stagnant waters that they estimated wouldn’t go above their big toes.

Ahead, Tunnels yawned open, positioned strategically like the hands of the clock. There was a Tunnel positioned at 9 0’Clock, another positioned at 10, 11, 12, 1, 2, and 3.

In total, Levon counted 7 tunnels ahead. And right at the center of the open clearing were rail carts—the sorts used for coal mining back in the days.

Again, Levon had to ask: Just how massive was the Order’s Domain?

His eyes settled at the Rustic Mining carts that looked like they could fall apart at any given moment.

’...We won’t be riding these Carts into the tunnels, right?’
