Chapter 65: No Fun

Arc 2, Chapter 65 — No Fun

.

.

Time, as many came to discover, was a merciless force within the Organization’s walls.

In the blink of an eye, it was over.

Yet for the class time he missed, he still had to admit it wasn’t a complete waste of his time.

Although the benefits couldn’t be compared with those attending classes, he still felt the changes brought about by this Punishment phase.

Each moment was a test of endurance, a crucible that forged him into something stronger with every passing day.

His battle prowess had increased, his form stability sharpened, and his awareness heightened by the countless dangers faced daily.

Week 1...

For his first week, he was assigned to the Logistics Department, which focuses on the day-to-day running of the place.

On day one, he was actually sent to the kitchens cooking for the ravenous masses. Using the word cooking was a stretch. Levon spent his time doing menial tasks like peeling an uncountable number of potatoes for an entire day.

On days 2 and 3, he cleaned, spending his time scrubbing blood stained floors.

When it comes to cleaning, sometimes he cleaned some halls, and other times, he was scraping dead bodies and bones from the very, very, bottoms of the countless rabbit holes in this place.

The stench of death clung like a shroud, but he persevered.

On days 4~7, Levon was tasked with feeding and gathering supplies for the many creatures lurking—beings that would rather devour than thank him for the meal.

Only now did he truly understand how rigorous it was to be a member of the Logistics Department.

Logistics wasn’t just a support role, but a battlefield in its own rights.

Its members were workers and fighters, hardened by years of service, capable of holding their own against vampires. It’s just that they were better suited for such worker roles rather than going on in the field.

Levon was impressed, realizing they were also responsible for feeding the vampires held in Captivity within these grounds. Such a task required both bravery and cunningness.

Should the order get attacked and ambushed, each and everyone of them will fight, defending their turf with ease.

Like so, Levon spent week 1 with the Logistics department.

Weeks 2 and 3 brought him to the Medical Department. They didn’t give him any high ranking tasks, but just basic ones all newcomers did.

Nevertheless, it was incredibly tough. It was also here that they saw some people who he thought were dead during the examination.

It seemed they too joined the Order, but didn’t have a glorious start the way he did.

Then Week 4 came. Levon found himself working with weapon research. To be specific, they sent him to an underground junkyard, a vast land of Junk.

Honestly, Levon was dumbfounded by the junkyard that looked like a steampunk multiverse. There was steam everywhere, cloaking the atmosphere.

There, he met people who swore they hadn’t seen the sun for 4 years. Unless they can advance to the next stretch level, they’ll remain underground looking through the junk for special parts.

For this, Levon was dumbfounded.

Luckily, he started off as a Bloodred 10. Who wants to be like those people living underground?

In the end, Levon had to admit that no matter the department he was sent to, he learned far more than he anticipated.

Air caught up in his lungs when feeling his pulse quicken.

Even with his eyes closed, he could feel his improvement throughout the 4 weeks.

Yet, there was a tinge of pain in his heart when seeing Victorio and his goons practicing abilities far greater than what any of those in punishment knew.

The difference between them and they was obvious for everyone to see.

Fortunately, his punishment period was finally over.

Last night, they had their 4th Night Drill.

Since that first time, Levon has never gotten punishment from Clara again.

Everyone was still talking about last night’s matter while getting ready for class.

.

.

"Happy!" Shugo had nonexistent tears in his eyes. Levon and Leo nodded, submerging themselves in the steaming waters of one of the many Onsen’s scattered around..

This was the Boy’s Bathing Room, a utopia with over 25 giant pools of steaming water.

"Finally, we can catch up."

"Imagine being those who received Punishment for the 2nd, 3rd, or even 4th time?"

Everyone had sympathy for these people.

What did Clara say again?

The first punishment is one month; And after that, multiply the number by 2 for the next.

So if you receive a 2nd Punishment, it’s an additional 2 months added to the original 1 month making it 3.

Then if you get punishment the 3rd time, it’s an additional 6 months added to the original 3 months.

Long story short, some people won’t be attending any classes until 9 months later. By that time, do you know how far back you would be?

Terrible!

Clara’s words still lingered ominously in their hearts.

"It’s her cut-off time that really shakes me."

"Yeah." Leo agreed. "She said if one’s total punishment time surpasses 2 years, they’ll get an automatic and permanent transfer to either: the Medical, Diplomatic, Weapon research, or Logistics departments... Isn’t that exile?"

"Since she didn’t call department 1, 3, or 4... I think we’re waiting to get sent to either one of these."

Levon dunked his head into the waters thoughtfully.

’Department 1 (Intelligence), Department 3 (Security), and Department 4 (Battle & Retrieval), should be where Legends are made.’ He concluded.

No matter how you look at these departments, they were all forefront in the outside field and world.

Leo’s lips thinned, "It’s true that sometimes, those in Logistics do head out to get basic items like clothing and my game chips... But only those above a certain level can go out. So what are the odds of fighting powerful vampires if we get transferred to the Logistics department or other departments?"

The implication was clear—Staying in this mansion meant they belong to either Departments 1, 3 or 4. Transferring away meant they’ll get buried in other departments, never seeing truly powerful enemies until they reach certain ranks.

No fun.
