Arc 2. Chapter 64 — A Bitter Outcome ƒгeewebnovёl.com

.

.

Levon’s team stood amidst the chaos, their breaths shallow and their eyes sharp like blades.

The air was thick with tension, with a swirling storm of golden butterfly leaves gleaming maliciously.

"Buddy, what’s the plan?" Shugo’s voice cut through in a steady but urgent manner.

"We split them up."

With no time to waste, Levon’s mind worked overtime. As leader, they were counting on him to make the first step.

"Shugo, Rayna, get the bags!"

"Artilla, Leo, draw their atten—"

"On it!"

Everyone already understood Levon’s orders.

Without hesitation, Artilla and Leo, activated their shards.

Leo’s card shard expanded beneath him like a demonic carpet, while Artilla’s fan shard unfolded and expanded into a deadly glider.

Hopping on their shards, they launched into the air, weaving through the forest canopy with reckless intentions.

"Is it working yet?"

Their hearts pounded with anxiety... Nothing was happening yet. The leaves were still swarming— oh, wait, wait...

"It’s working!!"

~Hah-Hah!

The group laughed maniacally when they saw a majority of butterfly leaves follow the fleeing group.

The leaves moved like a hive mind, splitting into 2 groups—one chasing Artilla and Leo through the treetops, and the other circling back towards Levon’s ground team.

The one chasing the air team was ruthless.

Around the trees they went, up, down, left, right, in all chaotic movements one could imagine. Leo even went underwater and these bastards also followed him underwater too.

What was more terrifying, were the long pointed stingers at the tip of their stems that pointed at their prey.

"We’re ready!!"

The few leaves that stayed back with Shugo, Levon and Rayna, had already been gathered away in one giant bag and tied up.

READY!

Shugo and Rayna bit the insides of their mouths when holding out empty bags.

A palpable tension hung in the air when preparing.

They’ve only gathered 1/4th of these leaves... 3/4th was left and coming in hot.

Everyone felt the weight of the task ahead, knowing that success depended on their ability to work together seamlessly.

"Go HIGHER!"

The swirling mass of golden leaves created a mesmerizing yet disorienting spectacle the longer they chased after Artilla and Leo.

It was as if they were caught in a living kaleidoscope, with each butterfly leaf reflecting light in a dazzling manner.

For a moment, Shugo and Atilla looked like witches on brooms being chased around trees by a swarm of magical leaves.

The bags were open, and the ground team was ready for capture.

It’s coming... it’s coming...

"NOW!" Levon’s voice bellowed.

Then Rayna and Shugo appeared behind trees, using their Shard abilities to pin and hold down the giant bags in one end, while they held down the other end.

"So strong..."

They pushed back, with their feet digging into the ground.

The bags were a special kind that wouldn’t rip even if they sliced vigorously from within.

"Close!"

Everyone hastily stormed in to help the duo close the bags. Rayna’s bag was successfully closed, but Shugo’s—

"Run!!"

They were tasked to gather 4 bags of Butterfly leaves. But looking at the current situation, they dared not continue further’

Abort mission, Abort mission!

The team bolted through the forest, dragging 3 giant bags of leaves.

Fortunately, these leaves don’t go past the Golden forest.

.

.

Phew~

Laying tiredly on the ground, everyone felt their hearts threatening to shatter.

Do you know how long they’ve been running for before they could successfully leave the Golden forest?

Looking at the sun’s position, they knew they had only little time left to make it to their final destination.

2 minutes later, they were all up, running once more like ninjas. They looked like Christmas elves with enormous bags 15 times their size.

They hugged and leaped through the scene carefully, until they reached Desert Terrain.

Fortunately, they arrived 20 minutes before the Sandy Tree giants woke.

They found the underground passageway they were instructed to use. And after emptying the contents of the bags, they ran out like mad people.

"Hurry!"

Levon, Artilla and Rayna grabbed the bags and made for the door.

"Close it! Close it!"

Bam! Bam! Bam! Bam!

On the other side of the now shut door, they could only hear a cluster of hammering sounds that made their hearts jerk..

Those thousands of butterfly leaves with their needle-like stingers, must have stabbed into the door the second it was closed.

That’s it.

Mission accomplished... Well, partially accomplished, for today.

It was only now that they had time to look at their surroundings.

They were in a cave-like underground hole that seemed like it was made entirely out of roots.

"Do these roots belong to the Desert Tree Giants? They said we must feed them during this time. Could it be that they’re asleep too?"

"Maybe." Levon nodded. "I think once they wake, they’ll feast on the butterfly leaves."

Shugo was amused. "What an odd circle of life. But the question is, do we want to be here when they feast?"

—No.

Everyone chuckled bitterly, leaving the scene to report their doings.

"We only gathered 3 bags, but I think these tree giants must need 4."

"3 bags..." Rayna muttered. "Not enough. It’s all that Stupid worm’s fault!"

Shugo groaned. "Why do I have a hunch that because we did not complete the task right, we’ll be given someone more insane to do now?"

The next day Shugo’s hunch came true.

They were tasked with feeding a Hydra beast that only ate certain meals.

So not only did they have to hunt for these meals, but they also had to feed this Hydra while it was awake.

Mommy...

A bitter laugh rippled through the group.

Did you say the 9 headed snake with a dragon’s body was the Logistic Captain’s pet.

Who would believe that?

That 7 year old girl was the first to make it her pet.

They were fortunate to come in at the time she came to visit, making the Hydra act like a dog, happy that its master was letting its belly.

It rolled and licked her, but would glare furiously when anyone else tried approaching.

All in all, their punishment period seemed to be getting harder and harder by the day.

Day in, Day out, they were used by various Departments till their one-month Punishment Period came to an End.

Now, it was back to Classes!
