Chapter 66: An Unexpected Eye

Arc 2, Chapter 66 — An Unexpected Eye

.

.

Levon ran a hand through his damp hair, his narrowed eyes reflecting a faint glow.

"Departments 1, 3, and 4 are the best."

"I think Department 3 should be like Bodyguards. Their Department of Security also protects the Oder, keeping this place safe, including all waterways and entryways into this place."

"Yeah." Leo smirked. "I heard they go out frequently, accompanying many figures out on business and missions too."

"Hold on" Shugo’s expression darkened. "Clara said—"

[Boys and girls, after a maximum tally of 2 years for punishment in this ’Sleeping quarter’, you’re out!]

"I don’t think she’s only talking about Department transfer."

"Me Too!"

Clara’s meaning was simple: This place doesn’t need trash who didn’t learn from their mistakes and kept repeating them.

What’s the use of sending soldiers out on the battlefield when they can’t even learn from their mistakes and improve swiftly?

The stakes were clear. Failure here wasn’t just an inconvenience—it was exile or worse.

(Silence)

The sounds of water dripping completely masked the silence around them.

"In a nutshell," Levon continued. "We can’t go above 2 years of punishment or we get kicked out."

If she’s willing to give 2 years, it means it’s definitely not that simple to advance past Bloodren 10 so easily.

2 years should be the average. Some people might take more, and others less. But 2 years is where the average line should meet.

"Guys, don’t forget that every year, these people recruit, just like they did with us."

"So even though the average time is 2 years, after a year, we’ll definitely get kicked out and might lose some privileges if we haven’t advanced."

"Yeah... I think I get it now." Shugo expressed. "You can be a Bloodren 10 for 3 years or maybe even 4.... But so long as your tidal punishment time does not exceed 2 years (24 months), then you wont get transferred to another department."

It has only been 4 weeks since the Night Drill situation began. And already, some have 9-months worth of punishment.

Scary...

Everyone exchanged grim looks

"Bottom line, every punishment added delays progress. Those who longer too long in Bloodren 10 are doomed to fall behind."

The thought sent shivers down their spines.

Nearby, others sat silently in the water, their faces pale and haunted the more they eavesdropped.

Some only had their 2nd punishments, and some had their 3rd...

NO!

They inwardly screamed.

From now on, they can’t afford any mistakes during the Night Drill.

Several people swallowed hard, to keep moving undetected during all Night Drills.

The annoying thing was that the peculiar laser pattern changes every time. So even if you master it, there’s no guarantee you’ll succeed.

The drills kept their senses honed, and their ability to adapt to changes within the battlefields.

Several people stared at Levon hatefully, wondering why a trash like that could only get punished once, but they got punished twice and thrice.

They thought they would be the ones to go far ahead of Levon, since they got Shards from higher piles.

But now, reality smacked them in the face hard.

Does that mean they’re worse than Trash?

Several people groaned, but also felt that if they avoided Punishments moving forward, they would be able to catch up and surpass him just as it’s supposed to be.

The good thing was that since that first time that Clara exterminated the first group of ’infected,’ no one has gotten bitten again despite the obvious increase in the number of vampires and monsters flooding their dormitory each Night Drill.

All they were told was that the night drill was once a week.

They didn’t know what day it would fall, or what time in the night. All they knew was that once it came, the rest of the week was Night Drill Free.

Once, they had the drill on the last week of the 2nd week, and also had it on the first night of the 3rd week.

That was 2 nights of Night Drills back to back.

Levon listened to Leo and Shugo with relish.

Soon, they finished washing up, leaving the bath space alongside others who equally wore heavy expressions.

Vampires...

Punishments...

This place was truly an unpredictable world on its own.

—Somewhere not so far away—

Seated within the confines of his residence, a certain red-haired figure with a bandana on his forehead, smiled welcomingly.

"Sir Villeta Von Bismarck... Department head of the Medical sector... She who is dubbed as the giver of life, and the taker of life."

Villeta smiled, not denying it.

She has a terrifying force that could kill a man, and equally raise him back from the dead, seconds before his lifeform gets drained.

In all the Order, she was dubbed the The Mad Healer.

"What a special day it is for the Mad Healer to grace my humble abode." Gaara chuckled darkly. "I have to say, your Confidence has never changed."

"Oh?" Villeta unhurriedly let out yet another whiff of smoke. "In my case, confidence is just another word for certainty."

She never fails, and that’s a fact.

Gaara leaned forward with an amused glint in his eyes. "It’s been a long time since you last visited, friend. So what brings you here this time?"

"A boy." She said simply.

Gaara raised a brow. "In my department?"

Villeta shook her head plainly. "No. A first-year."

"Now, now...isn’t this something. The mighty Villeta, interested in Fresh Meat?" Gaara looked nothing like his playful demeanor now. Not many things interest this friend of his.

In silence, Villeta gently tapped the bud of her cigar into an ashtray.

"One of these days, smoking is gonna kill you."

"Perhaps..." She chuckled, taking in another good whiff. They’ll just have to see, won’t they?

"Levon Belmont." She spoke softly. "Apparently, a well-known trash."

Gaara was taken aback. "You? Interested in trash then?"

Villeta paused, slowly lowering her cigar. "Gaara, haven’t I told you? If you think like a human, you are going to lose like a human. They call him trash, but I dare to say that no trash can do what he did when I first met him."

"Oh?"

Gaara studied her intently, a vibrant light flashed through his pupils the longer Villeta spoke.

’Levon Belmont is it?...Just how interesting are you?’
