It was frightening to think of what could happen if their tokens went ’missing.’
For a moment, the atmosphere became subtle, each having calculations of their own. Newly formed groups, as well as old groups, also felt the tingle of anxiety because of this matter. If they lose members because of missing tokens, it won’t be good.
With sweeping gazes, they hurdled closer and whispered final instructions, everyone more or less having the same thoughts.
The bedrooms weren’t safe. No place was safe except one.
"Once we arrive Home, all Tokens must be kept in the lockers until Phase 2 Begins! Understood?"
"Right!"
They made secret promises.
Winhest chuckled. "Well now, congratulations are in order." He spoke coyly. "Then again, I didn’t expect to see so many new and old faces."
His eyes swept across the masses, and many Old 10s like Batista, Bloomingdale, Gorgendoyle, Potchmay, and Redclar, felt a tug in their hearts.
Coterie!
From now on their teacher will actually be a Coterie!
Such a thing made their butts itch and their hearts throb. Even last year when they first arrived, they never had the privilege of having such a top-tier individual Lecture them.
How is it? How are his classes going to be?
"_" [Levon and the others who knew Winhest well.]
"Phase 2," Winhest continued. "As I mentioned earlier, you’ll be working in teams."
Mentioned earlier? The old Bloodrens were a little anxious seeing as WINHEST didn’t even bother to fill them in on whatever it was he said to Levon’s newbies during their Phase 1 time.
Rayna scoffed when seeing some of their expressions. ’Don’t worry, you all will have enough time to get to know our beloved Instructor.’
~ Pah. Pah. Pah.
WINHEST clasped both hands, letting out a loud echo. "That’s it."
... That’s all he had to say about Phase 2.
"_"
Everyone, including Levon’s group, had no tears but wished to cry. Despite these Old 10s looking at them hatefully, they swore they couldn’t recall Winhest going more in depth on the Phase 2 competitions in the past.
"So we’ll be fighting in groups. But will it be against each other, or against more ghouls?"
"With how bizarre this place is, it might also be another test like our entrance examination, that doesn’t require us to fight each other or ghouls."
"This guy..."
Many people twisted their faces at WINHEST unwillingly. What’s the difference between saying that and saying nothing?
’This again?’ Levon reacted swiftly, leaping off his seat when feeling movement.
Shugo, Leo, Rayna, and Artilla did the same, landing on the grounds below with ease.
~Vm! Vm! Vm! Vm!
The auditorium’s seats and desks collapsed into the walls, creating the vast space where everyone now stood. The familiar giant double-sided doorway opened, the abyss now staring them right in the face.
Batista and many older 10s felt nostalgic, seeing as they haven’t used this doorway for a year(s) now. It felt like a hundred years had passed since the last time.
Soon, Levon walked into the darkness alongside his group. But after a few turns in the dark, they felt they had ventured on an unfamiliar path.
"This isn’t the same path we took to the falling disc."
"Yeah."
An uneasy chill swept through their hearts: Where was WINHEST taking them this time?
Levon reckoned they had been walking in the darkness for 73 minutes now.... Just walking in silence. It was a miracle WINHEST didn’t ditch them. Don’t blame him for thinking this way. This guy is just so unreliable. Many were thinking the same as Levon.
Finally they reached the end of their journey, reaching a dimly lit opening with a single door that looked extremely charred and fortitude.
With the Tattoo marking on WINHEST’s body, he opened the door, leading the group in.
Eh? Everyone was taken aback after walking in. It was just an empty hall. And on the other end, was an enormous cave opening that looked like it could fit Godzilla himself.
"I wonder what’s in there?" Many murmured inquisitively.
WINHEST smirked, standing with his hands planted behind his back. "Today, you’re task is simple. Go through the Cave and reach its end. That’s it."
Really? Many raised a brow, unconvinced by how plainly WINHEST spoke.
Why did they not believe this guy meant well for them?
WINHEST shrugged. "You’ll be going in groups of 60."
With that, his Paper shard created a list of names, dividing everyone into groups of 56. There were 3 groups today... with the last group having 61 people rather than 60.
Levon and his group all fell to Group 2. With enhanced and shortened vision, everyone spotted their names with ease.
Levon stared at the Cave’s opening, his head spiraling with thoughts. ’Make it through to the end?... that’s it?’
?????????
The enormous cavern loomed before the students like a gaping maw, with an entrance being a void of utter darkness.
"Doubtful, are we?" Winhest shrugged. "As I’ve mentioned, your task is simple. Enter the cave, make it to the other end and wait. That’s it."
Everyone exchanged glances.
’Do you believe this guy?’
’Not a chance.’
They seemed to have telepathic understanding, distrust apparent on their faces. Winhest offered no further explanation, sending the first group of 60 off like sheep waiting to be slaughtered.
Swallowing hard, the group had no choice but to obey. In no time, they were off.
Watching the disappearing silhouettes, silence fell over the bunch left behind. Levon felt weird all over his body.
Soon, it was their turn.
"Group 2... Go."
Without hesitation, Levon stepped forward, running alongside his Shugo and the others.
What awaited them in the dark abyss?
His heart was in disarray but his movements were steady. In silence, the group jogged forward. Soon, 8 minutes flew by with everyone still jugging.
’Could it be that Winhest was right?’ Levon frowned. The terrain was normal and flat, with no hidden holes or traps for one to fall into.
So was it just a simple cave?
Inside, everyone was engulfed by an oppressive blackness that felt alive. Even with supernatural physiques, they strained their eyes and could see nothing—not even their own hands.
The air was thick and cold, carrying an eerie silence that made their skins crawl.
Levon, just like many, felt they might have overestimated Winhest’s weirdness. Many ran with ease. But after the 8-minute mark, only Levon.. Seemed to hear strange whistling sounds that tore through the air.
"Be CAREFUL!" Levon exclaimed towards Shugo, Artilla, Rayna and Leo. However, those around heard him and became vigilant.
Eh? They frowned, feeling and sensing no attacks.
"You bastard! What’s the big idea yelling like that? Got ’a death wish or something?"
Levon was taken aback, understanding that they couldn’t hear what he was Hearing!
Still, he recalled his time with Gaara and Sultan, now understanding what Winhest’s intentions were.
’So that’s it.’
"Rayna... Artilla... Leo... Shugo... Do you recall what I said earlier? He was talking about the Basic Breathing technique!"
Rayna had gotten a glimpse of it during her Phase 1 battle. And when he woke, he was pleasantly surprised that the others could also scratch the surface of this technique. It seems that watching Rayna’s battle gave them some insights to the teachings he spoke earlier.
It seems only they had grasped this matter.
Focusing their breathing, they seemed to become one with nature, allowing the shar’s peculiar ability stream through their pupils.
OH MY GOD!
There were thousands and thousands of needles heading their way—their faint whistling sounds piercing through the silence. But only Levon could hear it. Yet he barely had time to react, doing his best to evade all attacks from every direction.
The group followed beside him, diving to the ground, rolling, jumping, and advising projectiles while also unleashing tehri shards.
"What’s up with these guys? Are they insane or something?"
Many murmured. However, Hendrix, Floriana, and a few others, followed their lead, despite not knowing where the hidden attacks came from. Even the top-tier Old 10s like Batista, did the same.
Tch.
Many felt that these top guys are just too pretentious.
What was the point of rallying up so much fear amongst them when there’s no threat in sight?

In this manner, Group 2 reached the end, some fighting tooth and bone with ’invisible forces’ while others jogged casually, contempt evident on their faces.
’Show offs!’
That’s all they thought.
Reaching the either end, they soon discovered that Group 3 wasn’t so far off behind them.
Suddenly, a familiar voice rang. "This way."
The entire group of 181, now jogged towards the voice, passing through a narrower space till they merged in the same empty space they were in originally.
"What the—" Many gasped, seeing their bizarre appearances.
Well, they looked like hedgehogs, seeing as their bodies were now riddled with a thousand pointed needles.
This... This... How come they didn’t feel a thing?
