Chapter 120: Out Of Options

Arc 2, Chapter 120 — Out Of Options

.

.

If it sleeps, how long will it stay in this state?... And what did that mean for him?

’NOT GOOD!’

After looking around with scrutiny, Levon’s face turned paper-white.

His basic biology and general understanding... led him to speculate that when the big guy had no prey in its Gullet, it would stop producing sticky mucus.

Know that the sticky mucus was the only thing that could give a strong fight against the pool of acid around him.

That said, if he ran out of Mucus before his escape, he would no doubt get disintegrated like the other creatures around him.

What about Gaara and Sultan?

Levon had never counted on them to save him.

In the end, one should never forget that this was a cruel place.

If he dies... then he dies.

It’s a cruel world in the Order’s confines. He didn’t think those 2 would continue rescuing him if he disappointed them.

Knowing this, Levon’s face turned grim.

’I have limited time...’

—Limited time to ESCAPE.

.

.

Tick-Tock. Tick-tock.

An imaginary clock ticked in Levon’s mind when seeing the slow disintegration of the mucus all around him.

Then very decisively, he sprinted.

Swish~

In a gust of wind, he had easily shortened the distance between and the stomach walls.

Activating his Sharded Katana, Levon exchanged blows with the pinkish-red walls that kept contracting and expanding. Yes, the walls around him were breathing.

Levon was completely sweaty at this point. His attacks resulted in resounding echoes.

5 minutes later, his eyes twitched.

"As expected, the lining around its belly walls are too fortified."

Levon stopped, examining the spot he attacked.

"There’s not even a line of red between the pink tissue."

The thick, stretchy, and pink mucosal layers with convoluted ridges, had not even a single slash mark in their surface.

Levon’s eyelids drooped.

"It seems my main issue is destroying this thin impenetrable layer... The rest of the Toad’s flesh should be penetrable."

The layer was extraordinarily thin, like a pink blown bubblegum with lines and ridges.

It was fascinating to think such a thing could keep the toad’s true stomach contents safe—not just from fallen prey, but from the burning acidic and gastric contents in its belly.

With a scrutinizing eye, Levon observed that

"It’s possible that these walls are far stronger than those above."

Those walls from earlier did secret sticky mucus to keep prey from flying out.

However, perhaps their primary goal was to prevent prey from getting close enough to harm them.

Reaching for his pockets, Levon unzipped one and grabbed a lollipop.

Thanks to the ever boiling acid, the air around him grew quicker and hotter.

Levon unraveled the lollipop.

Was he addicted to it? Perhaps...

Levon had to admit that he was now calmer, no longer as irritated as he was a second ago.

"Feels good..."

After relishing in a moment of bliss with his lollipop secured in his mouth, Levon slowly opened his eyes.

The way he saw it, he had 3 choices:

Fleeing through the same way he came,

Cutting through the thick protective coating around the belly’s inner walls,

—Or using the disgusting route of getting himself pooped out.

Decisions... decisions...

"Fleeing is obviously out of the question," Levon muttered. "It’ll be naive to use that route."

Obviously, the defensive mechanism through the sticky stream cascading over the waterfall, was a death trap that might trigger something even more venomous than a film of sticky mucus.

As for the 3rd option...

Levon turned his neck in a half-arc, looking at the incredulous exit hole that was as tiny as a cup.

It was incredible that such an enormous space would have such a tiny exit hole. The butt-like hole was cloaked with wrinkles, contracting and relaxing.

"As expected, option 3 is out of the question. Unless I can shrink myself to the size of a Cup, there’s no swimming out."

Concluding this much, Levon’s heart started beating faster as the strawberry flavored lollipop swiveled in his mouth.

"It seems my decision has been made for me. These walls... My only way out is by cutting through."

.

.

Alright... Enough assessing!

Levon’s nostrils were already itchy from the acidic gas-build-up that was choking him cold.

His face and expression was still as cold as ice, but it was hard to disguise the discomfort the acidic whiff in the air brought him.

With limit control over low long he could keep his sharded Katana activated, Levon knew he must hurry.

57 minutes later, heavy perspiration cloaked his forehead like armor.

His face was significantly paler, his cheeks now sunken and drained.

Levon truly felt he would pass out any time now.

The air was unbearable, and the other prey had all turned into acidic fluid. He couldn’t even see a single limb floating around. And this made everything worse.

The chemical reaction between the many mysterious creatures and the acid. The creatures here were too abnormal. So it only made sense that the chemicals these prey released were so toxic when mixing with the acid.

Levon swore all the oxygen in the space was diminishing.

His entire body was red like a lobster, and his breathing grew coarser.

"Dang It!"

His steel face showed a crack when one of the daggers in his hands slid across a slippery edge and flew into the acidic pool around him. freēnovelkiss.com

All primal warning bells went off in Levon’s mind.

Levon was currently standing underneath the 5th sticky support platform he built with the last few substances that cascaded down the waterfalls.

"This can’t go on. I’m obviously running out of time."

Levon’s attention was on the waterfall that ran dry.

He was standing on the only remaining sticky coagulation in the belly.

After this, it will be Game over.

As for the ones who threw him in here, Levon had long forgotten of their existence.

His heart was constantly pounding as if on the verge of a heart attack.

He had long exhausted his Shard ability, knowing that he would have to wait for an additional 10 minutes before he could unleash his Katana again.

Looking at the unaffected walls around him, Levon shattered the Lollipop in his mouth with determination.

He didn’t know how he was going to do it, but he knew his best shot in getting out was with his shard abilities.

Recalling a technique Winhest had taught, Levon had an idea. But for that, he had to force it out—his Sharded Katana.

...

Tick-Tock. Tick-Tock.

In the belly of the beast, time was running out.

The acidic pool was bubbling, popping sounds echoing from time to time.

Plop, plop, plop, plop~

The music never ended, rhythmically reminding Levon of its impending wrath.

Yet despite the gloom of faint acidic fog curling its fingers in the air, Levon steadied his heart.

The basic breathing technique– The Origin Breath of Genesys, allowed him to temporarily forget all pain and chaos surrounding him.

To force it out, he sunk his consciousness in his body, surging the strange power of aura within him.

His teeth were almost crushed from his clenching, he pushed hard, attempting to force the Katana out.

Pouff~

Clogs of blood shot out of his mouth uncontrollably, from the immense pressure roaring from the depths of his heart. But Levon dared not give up.

"I will not fall here! You are my shard, and I am your master. So come out... COME OUT FOR ME ALREADY!"

Levon’s roar vibrated with momentum, giving it all he could with one final push.

Then, his body began trembling incredulously, but his eyes remained cold and focused like steel.

Everything happened so fast.

"No! No... I can’t black out now."

Levon knew very well what happened whenever he pushed himself too far out his limits.

No matter how tough Levon acted, he was still a teenager. Yes, a teenager with more courage and fearlessness than a majority of adults in the outside world. However, a teenager nonetheless.

A string of panic weaved itself in his heart.

Oddly enough, in these last moments, he wasn’t so frightened by the thought of death. Rather, he was unwilling to face any possibilities of failure.

Failure equals losing. And while it was okay to lose sometimes, this was not the time.

Something in him that should he lose and get perhaps rescued by the 2 instructors, he would lose more in the long run than he would gain—that is if they decided to rescue him.

For all he knew, they’ll leave him here to turn to acid.

In such a place where deaths were rampant during many night drills, people won’t necessarily miss a person like him.

All he would be, is a single after thought.

Levon’s expression was cold, unwilling to give in to his limitations.

But what he didn’t notice was the thin glow his body emitted.

That being said, despite not noticing his outer changes, he could feel his consciousness drawn to a certain focal point above his belly.

"This... This... This is in me?"
