Chapter 117: Second Meeting

Arc 2, Chapter 117 — Second Meeting

.

.

There was nothing like a nice long bath.

It felt so good... good enough to distract him from the pain wrapped around his neck.

Luckily for Levon, he was a Shard user. This meant his body also rejuvenated and healed itself faster than ordinary folks in the world.

’My bruise marks should completely fade away in a few days or so.’

It’s not that he cared about the bruises being known to others. But what he did not want was to expose the finger and nail prints on his neck.

Luckily, their uniform had high stylish sleek collars that could be buttoned up to guide the marks.

When in the Mansion, he’ll have to hide things well.

Soon, it was Suppertime. He joined Artilla and Rayna for Supper, while Leo and Shugo continued on with their training.

And after filling his belly, he headed back to the mansion with the girls. From there, he also watched a spar between Artilla and Rayna.

"Arty, I feel that if I keep training with you, I’m sure to win my next battle against Pickler!"

Rayna clenched her fists, knowing that she needed a Win or a Draw in her next match if she wanted to enter Phase 2.

"Arty, let’s try something new."

"Sure!"

Levon shook his head wryly, leaving the two to their sparring. As for him, he had other agendas in his mind.

However... he wasn’t the only one with plans...

(Silence)

Two people sat deep in the heart of a peculiar Forbidden Forest, out in the open.

The air was thick with power—power so great the creatures close to the Forbidden forest, all scattered away as though running from a plague.

Seated on wooden structures and vines crafted and bent to take shape, Gaara and Sultan waited for their visitor.

"I see." Gaara nodded. "So, the boy woke you up on his own?"

"Unbelievable, isn’t it?" Sultan placed both hands under his chin, leaning forward deep in thought. "The fact that he could accurately pinpoint my location, is the first thing of interest that drew me to him..."

From the moment Levon emerged from the swamp waters into his territory, he could hear every mumble and whisper from the boy.

It seems his slumbering was the cause of the boy’s curiosity.

But... in all of history, who has ever heard the slumbering’s of a vampire from so far away?

After becoming a Bloodren, one’s senses do pick up. That there’s a range limit to everything, no matter how powerful you are.

Your sight might improve, letting you even see as far out as your neighboring town. Your smell also improves.... However, there’s a limit to what you can hear from a distance.

The Boy is an exception.

Sultan chuckled sardonically.

"I’m only glad it’s not some nitwit who sent the boy over to end me..." But then again, if anyone should be sent, it would be a person far stronger than him, no?

"Hmmm," Gaara agreed. "Viletta also noticed the boy’s strange bodily physique... That said, from what both of you are saying, we can conclude he’s somewhat special."

Gaara paused. "But if that’s the case, why awaken such a worthless shard?"

"Shard this, Shard that... I believe what I sense and what I see." Sultan’s eyes narrowed fixated on the emerging figure—It was Levon.

"Old Friend," Sultan smirked knowingly when watching the figure grow closer and closer. "There’s something more to him... and I for one, would enjoy exploring or beating it out of him if it comes to that."

Bahahahahahahah~

Gaara laughed, finding that the idea wasn’t bad at all. "I would expect nothing less from you."

Since everyone says there’s something more to this brat, then, he GAARA, will personally take the boy on into his Department.

Afterall, doing this would be fulfilling Viletta’s wish. She said she trusted no one but Gaara with the boy. So how can he give him to others?

Being direct and straightforward was always his way.

Since the kid was now his, then how can he let the boy continue to remain so weak and useless?

"Kid, you’re finally here." Gaara spoke in a chilling tease. "Now, now... don’t you know a thing or 2 about respecting your elders?"

Gaara had an innocent expression when batting his eyes for an explanation. "Look how long you’ve kept us waiting?"

Levon emerged from the shadows, both hands in his pockets. "I would say sorry... but the word just keeps scratching my throat in the wrong."

As usual, a lollipop rested in his mouth, releasing a calming effect to his mind.

"Seniors, the more I look at you, the more intrigued I am: A Department head and a Vampire Bloodren— Who would have thought?"

What a bold lad.

"Did you hear that?" Sultan’s lips spread unnaturally as he turned to Gaara. "My, my, my.... The courage of this one."

"Bold indeed." Gaara chuckled darkly, sweeping an oppressive glance at Levon. "To stand our presence and speak so calmly after knowing our ranks, means he isn’t some liver-hearted Bloodren... Courage or stupidity? What do you think?"

BOOM!

Levon fell to his knees, the immense pressure slicing through him like daggers. His throat thickened in pain and his chest surged with electricity.

Like an ant standing before 2 wolves in the dark forest, Levon could feel the gap between himself and the 2.

"Give a man a sword... and he will most definitely forget the one who gave him the sword."

"Young blood... YOU OF ALL PEOPLE... You who is now weak and downright pathetic, should know that you are not worthy to talk in our midst."

(Silence)

The air was crackling with boundless energy that could split a fly in fractions. It was suffocating. Their auras made it difficult for him to breathe.

And got a moment, all Levon could see was darkness... and 2 sets of ferocious eyes looking his way.

But despite this... despite the sweat pouring down his face, Levon’s expression remained stoic.

"I have comprehended all my seniors, have said." He began slowly. "They say arrogance is the downfall of all great men. However, I’m willing to bet that my arrogance will be most pleasing to my seniors."

There was no doubt that Levon was talking through his teeth, enveloped in so much pain. But he didn’t waver.

Good.. Good... GOOD...

Sultan rhythmically tapped on the wooden table, satisfaction gleaming in his pupils.

1 second went by... 2... 3... 4...

Ghawkwkwkwkwkwkw~

Both Gaara and Sultan retracted their auras, pleased with Levon’s courage.

The kid might have a weaker Shard, but he was tougher than many they have seen.

Everyone in here is no doubt strong in some way or another, more than the average outsider.

However, those that rise to the top possess what this young man had.

Make no mistake, even Hendrix wouldn’t fearlessly waltz into Sultan’s liar after seeing that coffin.

It would take a real madman to still continue with his investigations at that point.

Too bad the boy’s shard was weaker.

...

"What a mouth you have on you, and an even wilder imagination. Nevertheless, this conversation has begun to bore me. So let’s cut to the chase."

Sultan’s long inky hair, slowly draped over his shoulders as he rose to his feet.

"You have questions, and haven’t got the patience to answer them. Judging from the fact that you deciphered our ranks, you’ve at least got some brains on you."

"Yes, I am a Vampire—a vampire who hates his origin and is supported by the Order and those on top."

"How high do I rank? Lieutenant under Department 4. That’s it. There’s nothing too fascinating about my origins..." Sultan paused... "But you, on the other hand, have a peculiar scent about you, one that makes my old blood BOIL."

Levon could hear his heartbeat stumble on itself when Sultan vanished and appeared so close to him, sniffing him like a dog.

Was this a good or a bad thing, Levon couldn’t tell.

"Let me be clear," Sultan spoke, a faint slow deliberate grin replacing his nonchalant expression.

There was evil behind his grin. Paired with his cryptic words, his smile could leave any for doubting their own reality.

"Levon Belmont... If you do not hold up to my fascination, I will personally destroy you."

"After all, what I detest the most, is a person who thinks of himself too great, only to turn out to be a MAD STRAY DOG NOT WORTH MY TIME."

With that said, Sultan calmly took a step back, with his towering back and silhouette no longer hunching over Levon.

"Show me..."

His words were like spells to Levon.

Levon, who was no longer on his knees, swirled the lollipop in his mouth when activating his Sharded Katana.

It was no doubt a masterpiece sword, with a frightening cutting edge that seemed dulled out on deeper inspection.

A Black Katana—the blade and the sword sheath were all jet black.

Ripples of energy cloaked the sword, moving in wave-like patterns around its sharpened corners.

"Not bad," Gaara blurted... "For a lower-ranked shard."
