Chapter 114: The Source

Arc 2, Chapter 114 — The Source!

.

.

The Night was still young, with the slumbering sounds of many bellowing rhythmically.

However, seconds after Levon’s departure, several Bloodrens opened their eyes like clockwork... but just momentarily.

Levon was gone, but Leo and Shugo noticed his absence. And for a select few in other bedrooms, they too noticed the presence of someone leaving the Mansion.

Hendrix, Rita, Victorio, and several others also had a hunch of who it was who was in such a haste tonight.

On their beds, their eyes gathered intently, a slow smirk always on their faces—one could almost taste the intrigue on their lips.

’Despite getting a pass today, it seems he’s not too stupid to relax just yet.’ They thought, knowing that unless Levon proves himself during the next battle, it’s hard to say whether his PASS will be revoked or not.

’How interesting. Everything involving this guy always goes strangely.’

Levon Belmont...

Many had such thoughts, closing their eyes for the last time till morning.

They had no doubt in their minds that he was off to train. However, they couldn’t be further from the truth.

As for Levon, he had long bypassed the security put in place around the mansion and the estate’s grounds. Then once out, Levon became quicker on his feet.

Like a dog trailing a scent, he traced the location, following the direction the slumbering noise was coming from.

Since his grand escape from the mansion a while back with everyone, he has been sneaking out from time to time in search of the owner of the mysterious slumbering tone.

He had to admit that this was the furthest he had ever gone.

KHAAAAAA~

A giant lizard appeared. Its body shook from size to side with fluid movements. It crawled too fast, reaching him in the blink of an eye. Then, it shot out an overly long tong with sticky green goo coated on it.

’Dammit, I don’t have time for this.’

Levon tilted his body to the side dully, slicing off the tongue with his Katana.

It seemed the impact was too great for this creature, causing it to shriek and flare like someone who ate a mouth load of spicy food.

Levon frowned, knowing that from now on, he must save his Shard ability for when I truly need it.

Reaching for the twin daggers on his sides, Levon rushed forward, leaving the lizard Godzilla behind. Along the way, Levon became a master of running away.

He had no time to sit back and battle with others. Moreover, he wasn’t that strong. So why would he seek death so easily?

~Tick-Tock. Tick-Tock

Time trickled down like water. Until soon enough, Levon officially found himself in one of the many FORBIDDEN TERRITORIES within the Order..

Levon was taken aback. He felt it...

’No wonder it’s a forbidden forest.’

There was a ferocious powerful energy surging from the heart of the Forbidden region. Levon felt as though he was surrounded by a million enemies, with eyes all over him. Yet he couldn’t spot a single soul, be it human or animal, lurking around.

His body instinctively wished to make a U-turn and head for the hills, but his mind told him to go on.

Body vs Mind, which to follow?

Unraveled a stick of lollipop, Levon’s nerves subconsciously cooled down the instant its flavor exploded in his mouth. Addictive, wasn’t it?

Tilting his head, with the lollipop in his mouth, he observed his surroundings as calmly as he could.

’Well, there’s no point thinking too much. Since I’m here, I might as well go.’

In times like these, too much thinking breeds fear.

Fear, although a thing all humans had, was a thing the strong must control.

The journey ahead was flooded with trees that told difficult stories. There was something about their crooked figures that gave off a haunting look.

Rushing cautiously, Levon expected to find a flood of creatures of deadly strengths all around.

This was a FORBIDDEN AREA. Thus, it should contain creatures far beyond his strength.

’Foolish... That’s the word.’ Levon insulted himself, finding it foolish to venture into such a strongman’s land, knowing fully well that the creature’s here can probably flick him to death with ease.

But there was just no helping it.

’If I have to listen to that slumbering one more time, I’ll grow mad before the next battle.’

It was driving him insane.

He, Levon Belmont, would rather take the cowards road, slicing his own throat, than keep going the same way he did.

Each night, the slumbering has been getting worse.

It was a nightmare, driving him nuts and insane. At this rate, won’t he develop insomnia from it all?

Levon thought of his situation while overpassing the grand forest region of the Forbidden area.

As far as he knew, there were over a hundred forbidden areas here. This one was just one of them, albeit a very enormous one.

Bypassing the strange forest terrain, he found himself in a swamp.

72 minutes later, he stopped.

There, Levon stood on a headless tree, looking around deep in thought.

"Since entry, I have yet to see any dangerous creatures lurking around. This is a Forbidden area... but why is it Forbidden?"

Levon swirled the lollipop in his mouth, with his thoughts running wildly.

’I felt something back then, and I’m still feeling it now... There’s definitely something strong living here–Maybe strong enough to prevent any creatures from stepping closer into this forbidden area.’

BUDUUM!~

Levon’s heart jolted. He had to admit that such a thought gave him goosebumps, the kinds laced with a feeling he detested the most—Fear.

Crazy.

Levon knew many would think he was insane for continually marching deeper into the belly of the beast after analyzing all he did.

But so what? Sometimes, curiosity outweighs reasoning.

Then, he heard it again:

ZZZZZZZZZzzzzzz~

Snoring!

It was louder than before, meaning he was so close to the source.

"It’s here..." Levon muttered, darting his eyes around the swamp like a maniac.

Where are you? Where the hell are you sleeping?

Jumping onto another exposed shaved tree, Levon felt whatever it was that was resting, should be hidden below, where he was standing.

Looking at the swamp, Levon knew this moment would come.

Using a stick earlier, he had often fallen into the ground. Some places were knee-deep, while others he guessed should be Pool and even river-deep.

He poked a stick, and the space below swallowed it.

"Haiz," Levon sighed, taking off his uniform jacket; and with barely a splash, he dived into the green grotesque waters.

He had a dagger in his mouth, and another in one of his knife sheaths.

The more he looked around, the more frantic his heart was beating.

There was nothing under, except the strange fish... Should he even call them Fishes at this point?

These fish looked more like Fish corpses—bony skeletons without flesh, swimming about unscientifically.

This... This... How do they operate exactly? Where is their heart? Do they even eat at all?

What’s their purpose? Since they are all bones and no flesh, where do they keep food?

Everything was just too bizarre , unreal and really... really UNSCIENTIFIC!

Levon almost spat out all the air in his mouth when seeing such terrifying fishes under the waters.

But that was it, there was nothing else.

.

.

Zzzzz~

Levon turned around in the waters, strangely.

With better vision than ordinary humans, he could see quite moderately under these murky waters.

’That tree...’

Levon stared at the gigantic tree, with roots so overly grown and massive that they looked like gigantic octopus legs.

They curled and twisted strangely.

’Looking closely, no fish is approaching it. There must be a reason.’

Zzzzzz~

The slumbering sound once again bellowed, causing Levon to swim closer. He swam around the massive tree, looking for an entrance in.

It was incredible how the shoot of the tree was so thin like an ordinary tree’s.

But only when one swims underneath, do they see how grand and enormous its structure was.

Once could fit a majestic labyrinth of tunnels and rooms in there.

After swimming around for what seemed like an eternity, Levon felt something strange about one of the tree’s roots.

’They all look the same, but this one... the vibrations from this one seem weird.’

Levon went back for air, before driving back in and following his intuition.

Sure enough, it proved right.

Looking around that giant root, he felt a disturbance in its unique vibration, causing him to be big underneath the space.

’A tunnel?’

Well, it looked more like a human-sized rabbit hole. Levon wasn’t too surprised.

Whatever they kept down there, must be something the order visits regularly.

’Here goes nothing.’

Without hesitation, Levon swam through the tunnel finding that the roots immediately trapped him in the moment his feet crossed.

Damn.

Do you wish for him to become animal food so badly to whatever was lurking down here?

If Levon wasn’t focused on other matters right now, he would have liked to curse that root to death.

Wasn’t this just blocking his escape route?
