In the mountain range of Duranberng, the geography of this place is slightly elevated, and with the path they’re taking, the mountain will be their home for weeks. Along the way, Theia has been tired from walking.

Her shelter self is not prepared for snow walking, even with Egul casting a mystic shield on the whole party to make walking in now very easy. So half of the time she got a piggyback ride from Heidi.

She wishes he had been fitter, but Hilda said that if she did this every day then naturally she would have better stamina, but not today.

They walk for a whole day to cross the whole mountain. If Hilda was by herself, she’d quickly get lost in this environment. The snow and the tree looked the same no matter where she went. But luckily there was an expert guide who lived in the forest all his life guiding her.

Their journey went smoothly, and they set up camp in the mountain again. This time their meals weren’t great since they couldn’t find animals in this type of climate.

"We will settle here."

They have been tracking all day, and Egul decided to rest for a bit more. They could have continued late into the night, but that would be dangerous. They’re in winter, so night animals are few and far between; the real threat here is the terrain.

Some of the snow might cover up a big hole or hide some nasty hunter’s trap that they didn’t disarm. Egul himself could have survived if he was caught in a trap, but the three people with him are only normal human bodies.

They started setting up camp and went to bed with the same schedule as before but adding in Theia.

The night went well the same as yesterday, and in the morning they packed their things and continued north. There’s still a long way to go until they reach the border of Guragua.

A day later they start walking early in the morning. Egul woke up first and then woke everyone after. The tribesman usually wakes up at 5 in the morning to prepare for the hunt, So Leon is called lazy because he is only awake at 9 am.

Egul has to drag the guy out of bed

Next to wake up was Hilda, the maid has been trained to wake up at 6 am to prepare for the master. Theia couldn’t help but wake up early as she heard to commotion.

Then they start traveling again. Another whole day is spent doing nothing but walking and avoiding traps that the hunter has set along the way. As they get close to a village they start to encounter more and more hunter’s traps.

They easily avoid it because the hunter always marks their traps... At least a competent hunter does. Some of the traps don’t have any markings on them is quite dangerous.

Theia fell into one of those while traveling, luckily she didn’t get hurt because of the shield that Egul put up all the time.

This routine goes on for a few days, as they travel across the Duranberg. Right now they’re halfway through the territories. And as the sun sets, they’ll have to set up camp again.

"Let’s get some wood, I’ll go hunt something"

Luckily this day they have found a cave nearby. So they didn’t have to put in the effort of setting up something. They’ve been able to sleep outside mostly because of the barrier which protects them from the cold.

So this time it felt more cozy since they didn’t need the barrier in the cave anymore. Theia and Leon gather some wood for Hilda who’s lighting up the fire.

Egul has a lighter with him so lighting the fire has been pretty easy. Hilda borrows the light from the guy while Egul prepares the deer he hunted.

"Mister Egul..." Theia intended to ask the guy about something but he interrupted her

"What is it?" Egul asked while butchering the deer.

"Well. I’ve been wondering why you have a lighter"

She has been traveling with Egul for the past few days and has seen that he dislikes the empire. He doesn’t express it, but he has some hate for the empire. Theia believes this is normal given that he has been fighting the empire since he was a child, but she is perplexed as to why he is suing the empire’s product.

"Oh, that? I just found it useful while traveling."

"Don’t know like.... hate the empire?"

"Don’t get me wrong—I despise the empire. But that does not imply I have to reject everything in it. Our tribes are still standing, in part due to the danger of the empire. Frost Fang tribes did not have territorial holdings beyond the border when my father was alive. And we’re simply a minor, unimportant tribe exiled by the larger one.

But my father refused to give up, and our tribe grew to be one of the great three tribes, protecting the border. This is due in part to the fact that we must do everything to survive, even warring with the empire and another tribe, our Forst fang could not be selective about the equipment we utilized."

Egul uses his hand to activate the mechanism of the lighter. The flame lit up the came, adding to the already lit flame of the campfire.

"If it’s convenient, we’ll use it. That’s why we’ll always win. That’s why I will always win..... Anyway, what are you talking about again?"

"Never mind..."

Theia aid looks absently in the cave. She never knew that the tribesmen had that kind of history. The Empire always paints them as barbaric idiots that don’t know what technology is but from her experience, Leon and Egul are using them just fine.

"So..."

"We have some company"

Hilda cut Theia, speaking her thoughts. Egul stops preparing the deer and looks at the entrance of the cave. The outside still has a bit of light left but the winter weather dim it.

"You got quite the sense, as expected from the Antores household. Looks like they’re drawn by the smell of our food. Turely a dog of the Royal knight"

Egul commends Hilda when she notices someone approaching. Theia shudders the moment Hilda utters those words.

There’s someone else beside them?

"Show yourself!"
