Chapter 293: Poachers (3)

Adrian stepped out of the room and found himself in a cave. But this wasn’t just any cave; it was artificial. Someone had built it, perhaps to hide the poachers or to ensure easy defence in case of an attack.

To make things worse, the whole place was a massive maze. Escaping without running into other poachers would be nearly impossible, even for him.

Thankfully, he had no desire to escape the place quietly. He was there to deal with them, and that’s what he would do.

"It’s a shame I can’t use [Blood Mist] here," Adrian muttered as he strolled through the catacombs. "If I ended up hurting any innocent people, the admin would not be happy with me."

Inside the tower, there were two kinds of people. First, there were the players who came in from outside. Then, there were the residents who had been born with the tower and lived like characters in a game. Their only goal was to aid the players by setting up shops, restaurants, inns, etc.

As the residents played an important role in maintaining the tower’s ecosystem, any hostile action against them meant going against the tower itself. It was up to the admins to ensure that those who broke the rules faced appropriate consequences. ƒгeewebnovёl.com

"But what would you do if the admin sided with the aggressors? Absolutely nothing," Adrian mumbled.

The admin of the first floor knew about the poachers and didn’t lift a finger to stop them. That alone was sufficient to know what kind of relationship the admin must have with Olympus.

As such, by going against the poachers, Adrian was taking a gamble. The administrators couldn’t step in directly when players had issues, but they could use sneaky ways around the rules to handle people they didn’t favour.

Unfortunately, Adrian wasn’t well-liked by Olympus or the administrators who supported them. Even a minor incident involving a resident could give the administrators the opportunity to take action against him in any manner they saw fit.

But despite Adrian’s decision to confront the poachers, one question nagged at him persistently. Why would Olympus support a rogue group like the poachers?

Sure, the poachers tempted them with slaves and money, but why would Olympus want either of those things when they already had administrators under their control?

Adrian could understand the bit about slaves. They were likely subject to experiments or just were there to be toyed with them. But why would Olympus require money, that too, from the first floor?

Something more was going on. Adrian sensed it, which was the second reason he risked being kidnapped by the poachers.

As luck would have it, Adrian stumbled across a small group of poachers heading towards him. Judging by the fact they had their weapon at the ready, they were most likely on patrol.

’Perfect.’

Without wasting a second, Adrian rushed towards the group. Emerging from the dark, he snapped a guy’s neck before kicking the other in the face. The three others were surprised to see him there and lunged at him.

However, Adrian grabbed one of the girl’s heads and slammed it on the cave wall with such strength that her head shattered into a dozen pieces, scaring the other two.

"Boo!" Adrian yelled, and that was enough to make them flee.

Looking for their boss in the never-ending catacombs was getting boring. That’s when Lucina devised a plan to use the poachers to hunt their leader.

<What are you waiting for? Follow them!>

Adrian shook his head before charging behind the goons. The girls ahead of him were fast, but Adrian’s keen senses allowed him to keep pace, tracking their movements through the maze.

The poachers, desperate to evade capture, took every turn they could, hoping to lose Adrian in the labyrinth. But he was relentless in his pursuit.

After what felt like an eternity of twists and turns, the poachers abruptly came to a halt. Adrian skidded to a stop just behind them. The chamber they had entered was big enough to fit half a dozen elephants if they stacked up.

It was an altered space, and that was enough for Adrian to know that the admin was more involved in their business than he had thought previously.

But that wasn’t all. As he looked around, he spotted hundreds of poachers waiting for him in that place. The girls must have alerted them using the radio, while they had him chase after them, waiting for the rest to gather in a spot.

Just then, a figure emerged from the shadows at the far end of the chamber. She was tall and imposing, wearing a hooded cloak that concealed her face in shadow.

The way everyone acted around her made it clear—she was their leader.

"Welcome," she said in her distorted voice. "To your grave. I don’t know who you are, so please tell me your name so I can carve it on your headstone."

Adrian smirked as the poachers surrounded him. "Forget about names and take my thanks. Since you all gathered here, it saved me the trouble of hunting each of you down."

The poachers, who were smirking a moment ago, now seemed a bit taken aback. They had expected fear or hesitation from the stranger, not oozing confidence.

Even the leader was confused, as she tilted her head slightly and stared at Adrian. "Are you blind? We have you surrounded-"

Adrian chuckled as he interrupted her and said, "I have faced worse odds. This won’t even be a warm-up for me."

The leader yawned, uninterested in their bickering, and instructed her lackeys to deal with Adrian. With a sudden roar, the poachers rushed towards Adrian, brandishing their weapons—daggers, swords, and makeshift clubs.

The leader was confident in her victory... until a moment later, when she saw her people were fighting with everyone but Adrian.

"What are you morons doing!?" she yelled, but no one could hear her. She could only watch as her forces dwindled without Adrian having to lift a finger.
