Chimaera's Conquest: The Legend Of The Devourer-Chapter 292: Poachers (2)
Chapter 292: Poachers (2)
<Master, you got guests~>
’What’s up with your voice? It sounds creepy.’
<I’m just excited about what you’d do next~>
Adrian rolled his eyes, and instead of focusing on Lucina, he turned his attention towards the Poachers. Four females were following him. They tried not to make it obvious, but Adrian knew they were together because of their constant gazes at him.
Once Adrian was certain the enemy had taken the bait, he picked up his pace slightly. He wanted to see if anyone else besides the four targets was following him, but there was no one else.
’Time for the next step.’
Since the city was bustling, it was easy for someone to slip away unnoticed. Adrian knew the poachers were more familiar with the area than he was. They would surely take advantage of that and Adrian was counting on it.
To blend in and not raise suspicion, he pretended to be searching for someone, constantly asking strangers for directions as part of his act.
It ensured the poachers that Adrian was someone who had no clue about their existence. However, one of the poachers, a red-haired dwarf, felt uneasy. She couldn’t place her finger on it, but something felt off about the man.
Unable to contain her uneasiness, she subtly activated the comms and whispered, "Something is off about that man... Should we change the target and find someone else-"
"NO!"
The dwarf received a resounding response and held back her tongue. They had spent so much time following the man that looking for someone else now would be a hassle. Besides, most people had joined some group or another, and targeting them could start a war the Poachers couldn’t afford.
Adrian continued walking, leading them toward a quieter part of the city. He turned into an alley, ensuring it was the perfect place for an ambush. He slowed his pace, pretending to be lost. Then suddenly, he disappeared around a corner.
"Where did he go?" the muscular female among them hissed.
The poachers panicked and scanned the area, looking for Adrian.
"There! He’s entering that alley!" the red-haired dwarf pointed out.
The poachers hurried after him and found him standing near a dead-end, confused. As the poachers walked towards him, Adrian feigned, looking surprised and troubled.
"Who are you? What do you want?" he shouted, taking a defensive stance.
"Now!" the brunette yelled instead of replying and the poachers rushed towards Adrian.
Adrian feigned surprise, raising his hands defensively as he asked, "What do you want?"
"Shut up!" barked the tall, muscular brunette and lunged at him, throwing a punch to his face.
Adrian barely dodged the punch and countered with a kick to her midsection, sending her stumbling back. The redhead dwarf pulled out a knife, slashing at him. He twisted away, but another poacher, a nimble woman with dark hair, landed a blow on his shoulder.
Not willing to give up, he fought back fiercely. He disarmed the redhead dwarf, sending her knife skittering across the ground. The muscular brunette recovered and charged at him again. Adrian ducked under her swing and landed a solid punch to her jaw, making her stagger yet again.
While he was busy with them, he felt a sharp pain in his leg. He looked down to see the fourth poacher, a petite woman with blonde hair, stabbing him with a dart. Almost instantly, dizziness washed over him.
"Got him!" she exclaimed.
Adrian tried to fight off the effects, but his vision blurred and his limbs grew heavy. The women closed in, laughing at how easy it was to fool him into ignoring Linea, the one who stabbed him.
"Olympus will pay a lot for a man of his talent," the dark-haired poacher sneered, caressing her wounds. "He packs quite the punch."
Adrian’s strength faded, and he collapsed to his knees. His mind screamed to stay awake, to fight back, but the drug was too strong. He blacked out, and the last thing he heard was the sinister laughter of the poachers.

When Adrian came to, he was in a dimly lit room. His hands were bound behind his back, and he was lying on a cold, hard floor. He took a moment to gather his bearings, or so he acted in case the poachers were around.
Thankfully, the poachers were discussing their plans, unaware that he had regained consciousness.
"How much do you think we’ll get for him?" the muscular brunette asked.
"A lot," the redhead dwarf replied. "Olympus will pay handsomely for someone like him."
"He ain’t all that bad looking either," the blonde smirked. "We can have some fun and sell him as a slave to someone within the tower."
While the women discussed what to do with him, Adrian scanned his surroundings. He planned to let them do what they liked, as he wanted to get inside their hideout.
Taking on a bunch of poachers wouldn’t do him much good. But if he could destroy their base, it would mess up their entire operation. That’s why he allowed the poachers to capture him and hoped they would drag him to their base.
’I guess it’s time to deal with them.’
Adrian knew he had to act fast. He took a deep breath, focusing all his strength on breaking the restraints. With a little effort, he snapped the metal bindings. The noise caught the attention of the poachers before he could get rid of the chain binding him to the wall.
The poachers lunged at him, thinking the drug would have made him wobbly. But to their surprise, Adrian dodged their attacks with ease when he was struggling before.
The muscular brunette swung a fist at him, but he sidestepped and delivered a powerful kick to her knee, causing her to collapse. Before she could process all that, Adrian hit her in the chin, knocking her out.
The blonde poacher tried to stab him with another dart, but Adrian caught her wrist and twisted it, forcing her to drop the weapon. He then disarmed the dwarven poacher, grabbing her knife and using it to cut through his remaining bindings.
"That was easy," Adrian mumbled, looking at the fallen poachers around him. "Let’s find their boss now, shall we?"`
