Chapter 254: A Ranker Worth Fighting (3)

It was a quiet night outside the hospital owned by the Misty Swords. Two police officers, John and Mike, were stationed there, keeping an eye on things, especially around a certain hunter upon the Chief’s request.

Some hunters were along with them, but they were inside, leaving the outside in the police’s care.

Thanks to the good weather, the cops didn’t mind as they stood outside their patrol car, chatting to pass the time as usual.

"So, how’s the family, John?" Mike asked, leaning against the car, staring at the sky.

"You know, same old, same old. Kids are doing fine in school. Wife is working overtime as usual," John sighed. "By the way, did you hear about Bill’s wife? She cheated on him. Poor guy’s a wreck."

"Yeah, I heard," Mike shook his head. "No idea why he is so upset, though. It isn’t like he wasn’t shacking up with Sarge’s wife and her stepdaughter from the second marriage."

"Wait... what? Damn... didn’t know he was like that," John sighed. "And here I have trouble convincing my wife to invite someone for an adventurous night."

"All you have to do is say the word, my guy," Mike smiled. "I’ll be right there."

"Of course, you will, fucking horndog," John rolled his eyes, walking to the other side of the car.

Mika laughed at his reaction and was about to respond when something hit him. His body crumpled to the ground, his eyes wide with shock. Mike, startled, turned around quickly, his hand reaching for his gun as he moved to check on his partner.

However, someone placed a hand on his, stopping him from drawing the weapon. He looked up and saw a woman standing before him, her curvy figure draped in a sleek black outfit covering everything but her face.

"Please don’t do that," the woman said, smiling like a predator. "We’d needlessly have to kill innocents if they woke up after hearing a gunshot."

"What the-?" Mike began, trying to pull the gun but didn’t have time to go through.

"Tsk, we could have had so much fun if you only listened," the woman said before forcefully snapping his arm.

"Argh-"

Mike wanted to yell in pain as his arm was bent out of shape, but the woman covered his mouth before pinning him against the patrol car.

Mike tried to react, but before he knew it, she was devouring his face as she kissed him forcefully. His eyes widened in shock following the sudden turn of events, and a switch went off in his head.

However, the pleasure soon turned to pain as his hands began flailing uselessly at his sides. Then, he started to convulse, his body wracked with spasms as he tried to push the woman away.

But it was no use as the Amazonian firmly held him in place. The next moment, Mike felt his strength leaving him as if his very soul was being sucked out.

Once satisfied, the woman finally let go, and Mike collapsed to the ground, his body looking like a dried-up mummy. She licked her lips, a satisfied smile spreading across her face.

"He’d have made a decent lover... too bad these morons never listen to a woman," the woman shook her head before stomping on Mike’s dried-up skull, which turned to dust.

After taking care of John in a similar fashion, she raised a fist over the head. Almost instantly, the entire hospital was plunged into darkness as the electricity was cut off. The streetlights flickered and died, leaving the area in utter darkness.

From the shadows, dozens of ghost soldiers emerged. Their forms were barely visible in the dim light. However, they weren’t alone. A man dressed in a tuxedo appeared behind them, and all of them bowed before him, showing their respect for the elder.

"I see that you have honed your skills well, Vex," Charles said, nodding towards the woman.

"It’s all thanks to your teachings, sir," Vex replied with a cold smile.

"I wish my daughter could be half as talented as you," Charles sighed before turning towards the rest of the soldiers. "Mission starts now. Find and kill the hunter named Felicia Olieviera, just like you dealt with all the officers. And above all, make Lady Maria proud."

The ghost soldiers didn’t respond beyond a nod and rushed towards the hospital, taking advantage of the dark.

Inside the hospital, patients and staff were unaware of the impending danger. Nurses went about their rounds, and doctors attended to their patients until the lights went off.

Panic ensued because not only the electricity but also the communications were down. Even the landlines didn’t work, fueling their panic-filled fire.

Electricity was essential because most of the devices depended on it, and losing power even for a minute could result in several deaths. Several people left to check, but suddenly, the main doors burst open.

Before anyone knew what was happening, the ghost soldiers poured in. Panic erupted as the soldiers moved through the corridors, killing anyone in sight as they had been asked not to leave any witnesses.

Vex and Charles shortly followed them inside and were greeted by a legion of corpses and blood smeared everywhere.

"They have grown more useful these days," Charles commented, walking through the lobby.

"Setting up the secret facility helped a lot," Vex replied, carefully walking behind Charles.

Suddenly, Charles stopped, looking at the reception where a shaky hand was reaching for the alarm. It was useless, as the ghost soldiers were already all over the building. Still, Charles grabbed the arm, making the receptionist shriek.

"Ma’am," he said respectfully with a smile. "Please refrain from taking such unnecessary actions, or it might be injurious to your health."

The woman was shaking in fear when Vex yanked her through the table and lifted her by the neck. The woman began to cry, only for Vex to place a finger on her lips.

"Don’t cry," she whispered in her ears. "This won’t hurt a bit."

The woman barely looked at her when Vex snapped her neck like a twig and threw her down to chill out with her friends in the afterlife.

"Call some of them back and ensure no one is alive," Charles commanded before heading towards the stairs. "If things got out, it might be troublesome for Lady Maria."

"It will be done," Vex replied and got to work when a knife flew past her head, scraping her cheek. "Who is there?"

"The one who will kill you?" Seraphina mumbled, appearing out of the shadowy corridor. "...oh my god, I always wanted to say that line, but it’s awfully cringe. At least it’s better than the courting death line."
